A couple things not to be lost, in the jizz-fest going on in the GDT...

That give-and-go with Dirk and Kidd was absolutely GORGEOUS. When is the last time you have seen that?

The three Kidd hit was the real dagger. Of course it was the attention paid to Dirk that made him so open, but Kidd also had to knock it down. And isn't it great that Dirk is the kind of guy who will make sure the best shot gets off, no matter who takes it?

It was really nice to see Dirk man down that deciding rebound.

Finally, and I think very importantly...to me, it was JJB who set the tone that led to the comeback. That sumbitch was going to the rack HARD.

NBA.com still features the win of its precious Lakers on the main page instead.

Ok, I'm going to attempt this:

First of all...Dirk.

Damp was pretty darn good again tonight. Six blocks, really controlled the boards. And held his own against two players that are not exactly perfect matchups for him. Very impressive start to the season for the big man.

Kidd was nailing those threes tonight, and that was huge. And he had that huge, huge steal. But other than that? Wow he was bad. Horrible turnovers all over the place, messing up easy buckets with poorly places passes. He was not his normal self tonight.

Marion was also not his normal self tonight. He was effected by a few of Kidd's off target passes, but he was still missing shots he'll normally make. I didn't understand why we kept going to Marion in the post against Kirilenko. Marion is not a skilled post scorer. He gets by on his length and athleticism. So why do you ask him time and again to score over someone that matches him in those areas? Seemed odd.

Early on I thought we were going to see a return to form from Jet. But he went south quickly and made several dumb mistakes.

Barea was pretty meh as well tonight.

I thought Humphries was awful tonight. He was an absolute black hole on offense. He kept catching it on the baseline and looking for his shot despite having a team mate at 15 feet demanding the ball. Very frustrating.

So basically...Dirk. And a little Damp, and some huge moments from Kidd. But really....Dirk.

I know he couldn't make a layup to save his life tonight...but DANG I love watching Marion run the floor and defend. That fool is exactly what we've needed.

Certainly surprised Okur. He was caught flat-footed, expecting the re-post.

initiated by the 4. That was my favorite part...it wasn't PG to PF...but PF to PG! Such a radically unusual player.

That's uh...that's a tough thing.

If it makes you feel any better, you'd only have wanted to see the fourth quarter. But my goodness...that fourth quarter....

You know what stat gets left out of Dirk's stat lines too often? Not a single effing turnover.

40 points, handled the ball while completely exhausted the entire fourth quarter. Five assists. And didn't cough the ball up once.

It's one of the primary keys to his greatness.

Need to see them put a good shooting game together...not asking for too much...just a nice 48% fg% game against New Orleans while playing the same tough and active D would be much appreciated.

BTW, we need to hear some news on Quinton Ross. I don't want to lose that guy, especially while Josh is still out and a game coming up tomorrow night.

Carlisle gave HUGE props to Kidd in the presser..."that guy just knows how to win".

Said he couldn't exaggerate Kidd's significance.

Okur has some game in right system but we need either an athletic big or a really good defensive big that can score on block some, Okur struggles defensively (unlike Boozer though he actually tries) and I would stay away from him.

Great game, Dirk was amazing etc... but I have two complaints. First, the rotations are still driving me nuts. JJ and Jet are stinking it up out there. And second, the new announcer SUCKS! What happened to Humble Billy?

For those who saw this game, we all just witnessed the greatest quarter by greatest player to ever put on a Mav jersey. This man deserves a f'ing ring, and this should inspire the whole team for the rest of the year.

Its not like he did it all with jump shots. He decided he was taking over, and he took the ball to the hole and drew the hits. What a gritty performance.

This should inspire every single maverick to play their brains out for the rest of the year. This could be a point we all look back on at the end of the year, and say THAT is when the Mavs got their stuff together.

Dirk reminded me tonight why he is my favorite athlete ever.

Not sure what you wanted tonight. Ross was hurt.

And that announcer is not official yet. This was another tryout. I do agree that he's awful though. His voice is very off-putting.

It's one of the primary keys to his greatness.
That's an excellent point. 7-for-8 in the fourth is efficient enough. No turnovers the whole game, to boot...well, that's just awesome.

I wish I could have watched/listened to that. Could you give a brief summary of what Carlisle said about Dirk, Kidd and everything else? Would appreciate it a lot. Thank you.

Aside from Dirk's phenomenal 4th quarter tonight, I am so impressed by his defense so far. He has been amazing.

Here was Carlisle's direct quote:

"Dirk has the biggest balls I think I've ever seen."

I didn't have strong feelings either way about the PA guy from the broadcast. You really have to be at the game to properly evaluate things like that I would think.

Dirk is redefining greatness.

Btw, why the hell would Carlisle play Matt Carroll over Roddy?

Someone else might do a better job of it...but off the top of my head Carlisle basically shrugged his shoulders the whole time...talked about needing this one, talked about wanting them to make some shots, said the crowd was as loud as its ever been, said Dirk's showing tonight was comparable to some of the great Bird games he witnessed.
