In fairness, they used a ton of energy getting here and are missing two of their top 6 players in Zach and Ariza. Who are also two of their 3 best defenders probably.

I would be surprised. He and CJ are real good dudes and not weak sauce ring chasers like PG or Anthony Davis. I’m pretty sure PG said he didn’t want to go to Portland when they tried to trade for him.

Lakers would've killed the Suns too.

It'll come down to Lakers vs Clippers WCF just like we thought in the beginning. I used to think I clearly wanted the Clippers to beat the Lakers because I hate the Lakers franchise and don't like Lebron, now I'm hoping other teams knock both of them out.

I think I’d be pulling for the Lakers in that one after this series.

Can't stand either one of them but I think I'd rather Kawhi get another ring than Lebron. Hard to really hate Kawhi. And I don't hate Lebron he's become a great guy but I don't know...have a respect/dislike thing for Lebron like I did Jordan.

Fuck kawhi, people only like him because hes quiet but he did the same stuff as the other stars or worse. Force himself out of two cities so he could get to LA. If Lebron had pulled what Kawhi and his uncle did in Toronto, he would be obliterated forever. People still hold the miami announcement against him from 15 years ago. I cant imagine the outcry in 2019 if he did what Kawhi did. Dont forget he also forced the Clippers to get PG out of OKC or he threatened them to not join.

Bucks are boycotting game 5 and Raptors may boycott round 2 Game 1.

Sorry but boycotting games is dumb. How is boycotting a basketball game going to stop a random cop from killing a black man in the state of ? USA. Is the cop going to think twice because they didn't play a few basketball games? I know it's just gathering more attention to the cause but I just don't think it's actually going to change anything.

What would have been even dumber would have been cancelling the season over it and not having the bubble in the first place which I think there was some discussions about that.

Instead of focusing on the few bad apple cops this seems more like blame all police forces good or bad and blame all white people good or bad to me. It just feels very political to me. I believe even a good cause can get corrupted by the wrong people.

Have no issue with what Kawhi did. These teams shouldn't' own these players. If Kawhi didn't want to play in Toronto he didn't have to. He gave them a freakin' ring. Something they've never sniffed in there life. Funny you say F Kawhi for this when Lebron did the same thing lol.

Its to b ring awareness. Its to show that yes, their lives matter and the show must not go on just because people want their sports. I commend them for it.

Now Bucks-Magic Lakers-Blazers and OKC-Rockets are all postponed. Curious how postponing a game will help the cause. It'll still be played later so more than anything else it doesn't change anything.

Wonder if Game 6 is still happening tomorrow or not.

I'm sorry you feel that way. IMO the "few bad apples" argument loses all merit when police unions and the supposed good apples go out of their way to protect the bad apples.

We need a bottom up culture change in America with an emphasis on mental health and preventative care. We need to stop militarizing our police. I say make the job more lucrative by paying cops more, while simultaneously shifting resources to domestic dispute and mental health response teams. The last thing we need is white people feeling victimized by the very conversation. I agree the cause has been hijacked to some extent by more radical or self-serving elements (much like our executive branch) but, that doesn't change the underlying facts.

Quote:
In those instances in which the victim appeared to pose a minimal-or-less threat to police, based on the data we had, Black people were three times as likely to be killed,” Miller says. “That doesn’t mean the police didn’t feel threatened. But based on the reports that we were able to to look at, a very low level of threat was directed at the police. And in those specific cases, the numbers rose for Black people: They made up 36 percent of the deaths.”
Miller adds that his study, which was released in March, was not an outlier on the issue of race in police shootings.
“Many other studies have shown that Black people are more likely to be killed per capita by law enforcement than are white people in the United States,” Miller says. “That is not a disputed statistic.”

I have no argument with your opinion. I agree that police need to be paid more and have better training. I just hate this getting mixed up with sports. I know in the grand scheme of things sports are not the most important thing I get that. But you don't see movie stars boycotting their newest movies, singers boycotting from touring (well maybe because of covid 19 not because of this) I just think sports should stay away from politics. But that is just my opinion that isn't important in the big picture.

The world has changed so much that now someone who chooses to stand for the national anthem is looked down upon. I don't give a shit about the anthem it is just a song, but it is alarming how much people's view of things have changed in a short time.

The police doesnt need to get paid more. The dumbass Sheriff who attacked Masai at the end of the finals has a salary of 300k. In germany just the top 5% in the police force reach 100k euro (and slightly above it).

And i assume you are white, right?

Because movie actors aren't predominantly black. But most of them are. John Boyega has pretty much said he doesn't care what Star Wars fans think about his protests either.

You're from Brazil, should I assume you're black? Do you appreciate that assumption? What have I said that's derogatory towards black people? Not one thing. I agree police need to stop shooting black men. I never said that it wasn't an issue I never said they weren't shooting black men I never said anything of the sort. I am half white half iranian. If I am mistreated for being half iranian (I have before) Would you stand up for my cause? Or is it just about black people? What about equality that is on the back of some of the players shirts. Shouldn't EVERYBODY be treated right?

But see my cause is not a popular one, so it wouldn't matter to most Americans, even the ones who aren't black standing up for Black Lives Matter.

Saw a link with public records. Like 200k Base and 100k in Overtime. Probably always kept his thumb on the Warriors Arena requests and sat his ass there to get paid

Fully support the players. Fuck anyone judging them. It takes a lot of courage to do what theyre doing because many will shit on them. Well real change has never happened nicely. Godspeed to the players.

No, i live in brazil, im actually German...so there you go.

But funny how you complained about how how people who Stand Up for the anthem get looked down...and not about the fact that people who kneel to specifically protest police violence gets trashed (and blacklisted).

I did but for some reason you think what Lebron did was different than what Kawhi and his uncle did lol.

You two probably agree on 95%. This sort of gatekeeping and talking past each other instead of to each other is exactly the problem.

The reality is that blacks are not killed disproportionately by cops when you factor in their violent crime rate.. not at all.

What so many people fail to realize is that cops are leaving cities at an alarming rate because of risk and pay. Some cities are several hundred officers short. Some cities have seen a decrease in applicants by up to 80%. This was before 2020. So now officers are going to leave at an even higher rate and the areas that need extra police presence will have even less. This is an absolute disaster waiting to happen.

Here’s a study from an Ivy League educated man that thought that blacks were disproportionately killed by cops... well, that is at least until he researched it on his own. He was shocked by what he found. https://www.nber.org/papers/w22399.pdf

We have to look at this from all angles. Simply looking at what is going on and saying the police have to be better just isn’t going to do much. The conditions in which the police work must be improved as well. You can train all you want but it’s not going to do much good at all if police are dealing with out of control extreme criminals as often as they have to. It’s going to be a collaborative effort from multiple sides. Additional police training is going to work about as well as putting a bandaid on severed leg.

What would really take a lot of courage would be for one of these players to actually stand up against the current narrative. That would be courageous.

So because you liked the result of the study you didnt research more about it, huh...

Quote:
The study generated considerable controversy and criticism.[12][13][14][15] Fryer responded to some of these criticisms in an interview with the New York Times.[16] In 2019, Fryer's paper was published in the Journal of Political Economy.[17] Other scholars criticized Fryer's study, arguing that due to selection bias, he was unable to draw any conclusions about racial bias in shootings from police stops. If police are more likely to stop a black person than a white person, then the average white person that they stop might be dissimilar to the average black person (for example, the white person might be behaving in a more threatening manner), thus leading to faulty inferences about racial bias in shootings. A 2020 study by Princeton University political scientists disputed the findings by Fryer, saying that if police had a higher threshold for stopping whites, this might mean that the whites, Hispanics and blacks in Fryer's data are not similar.[18] Nobel-laureate James Heckman and Steven Durlauf, both University of Chicago economists, published a response to the Fryer study, writing that the paper "does not establish credible evidence on the presence or absence of discrimination against African Americans in police shootings" due to issues with selection bias.[19]. Fryer responded saying Durlauf and Heckman erroneously claim that his sample is "based on stops". Further, he states that the "vast majority of the data...is gleaned from 911 calls for service in which a civilian requests police presence."[20].

Yes, I have read critiques of the study. But when I look at FBI data, I completely agree with it..

We have a violent criminal problem here in the US.. much more than any issue associated with the police. You continue to have violent criminals resisting arrest and we will continue to have police shootings. You put cops in a terrible position often enough and there will be incidents. Protest all you want, but these types of incidents will continue to occur as long as a decent percentage of the population acts as if they’re living in the wild west.

The Lakers and Clippers want to end the season every other team wants to continue on. This shows right now this is not a unified front and some players who are paid to be professional basketball players want to, as crazy as it sounds, play basketball. I support the players who want to do what they do and entertain fans who are having one of the worst years ever. That's not to say black lives matter cause doesn't matter it does, but it's not the only cause. I support anyone who doesn't want to play over the movement that's their right, but I also support the players who want to play on because you can't stop the world because bad things happen. How long did the USA shut down after 9/11? Like a week or two tops.

They were getting trashed and blacklisted when Colin Kaepernick started it. Not in 2020. Now it's the opposite it's shameful to stand for the national anthem.
