Another thought:
Raptors trade Siakam to Mavs
Mavs trade Wood to third team for picks
Mavs send picks, Powell, Hardy, Green for Siakam
Raptors gain young assets and shed $30m in salary next year

Wouldn't hate it. I would push to find a way to make it happen while retaining Wood, though. I'm not sure one could get there salary wise without the inclusion.

I didn't know Green hurt his elbow in an arm lock with Grayson Allen...I didn't see the play. Should we grab our pitchforks or was it an unfortunate basketball play?

If we're going to look at missed draft picks before Luka, the obvious one is GIANNIS. But again, we wouldn't have Luka, and the so called "Braintrust" would screw up the team around Giannis and he'd be ringless anyway.

Yea, but you're still playing hypotheticals lol
Like someone else said, the buck (no pun intended, well...maybe now) stopped with Giannis. That draft/off-season was such a cluster fuck.

FYI - Giannis Bucks were in the lottery following his rookie year and after his 3rd year. Not many have hit the league with the impact of Luka.

I can't remember was Luka our #1 target? Like if we had gotten the #1 pick would we have drafted Luka? I know Donnie was high on him.

I believe they were high on Ayton if I can recall...him and Jaren Jackson. But I think Luka would have won out in any scenario for Donnie and Mavs. I know they were definitely not as high on Trae.

I remember reading Rick wanted Wendell Carter Jr. who has turned into a really solid player under the coach that should be coaching the Mavericks right now.

This is not a deterrent ? if the price of landing an All-Star level player is a second-round pick, teams will factor it into the cost of doing business and happily pay it.
The NBA?s nearly five-month investigation into the Knicks is complete and the league announced Wednesday that New York ?violated league rules governing the timing of this season?s free agency discussions.? Meaning the Knicks tampered with Jalen Brunson. Which everyone knew they did.
The punishment is the Knicks lose their 2025 second-round pick.
The Knicks are laughing about that all the way to the No.6 seed in the East (where they sit as of this writing). Brunson is averaging 20.8 points and 6.2 assists a game, has been the steady floor general the Knicks need and has played like an All-Star.
Until the NBA starts handing down real punishments tampering will not stop. Hell can we get the draft pick that is being taken since we were the team that lost the player?

Can't realistically expect Brunson not to collude with his own father. They probably decided before that he would end up there.
But as for it being a league wide problem I agree.

Oh, it was much more than Daddy Brunson. They had his agents and coaches at some Mavs games if I recall.
Again, they really need to tighten the rules around this or it will spiral out of control. Currently, they might as well allow it.
A 2nd round pick is the definition of slap on the wrist. Oh no! We can't draft a fringe G league player, whatever shall the Knicks do now...
IT has to at least be a 1st given the value of the pick in either the draft or trades. And as someone pointed out, why should the team losing the player to such a tactic not receive anything? I'd say the same thing if this didn't involve the Mavs.
"Rule" is in-place and they need to enforce it, the problem is that they took a broad language approach to it. Strengthen the language and penalty, this type of engagement stops.

So are we all to believe that if Cuban had offered Brunson 5 for 150 he would have turned down? Give me a MOFO break. Cuban never intended to offer him shit. Only Mavs FO apologists would think that he had any intention to go deep into the tax. Cuban should sell and realize a nice gain so he can actually have some money. He has earned that.

He literally never offered the Mavs a chance to offer that (or anything else) after the NYK meeting...

You don?t need a meeting for that. Mavs already drew their line there?s no reason to meet to beg him to stay for less.

Exactly. The line you referenced was floated by the Mavs well ahead of time. Of course I am one of the fans who early on in that season thought we should let JB walk after he was played off the court in the previous season. So there is some revisionism on my part with regard to my feelings leading in to that season. I admit it.

And for god's sake no one is a Mavs FO apologist. We are just following real time things that actually happened. Brunson wanted out and to run a team as the only PG. Stars aligned for him and his dad for the NYK. We all need to collectively get over this...

Yeah, even if it were true that Cuban wouldn't offer 5/150, he was never able to so it's moot. That's not being an apologist at all. I like to look at facts vs fiction.
Brunson made up his mind long before FA started.

I forgot about that, but even if he was a model player it wouldn't have stopped them from trading him for Porzingis. I know it didn't work out for KP in Dallas but that's hindsight and he did average 20 ppg here. DSJ is still not Porzingis today even.

Yeah. The Porzingis trade was one of the biggest gifts dropped in the lap of Mavs management in NBA history. I was only arguing against the notion that Smith wasn't given enough time to develop. He didn't even give the Mavs a choice in the matter.

Mavs waive Dorsey and sign AJ Lawson. Looks like the FO is finally starting to wake up and make smarter moves. Dorsey is good but Lawson fits more of a need at sf/pf with our injuries.

Oh god Luka and Trae Young? They'd battle over the ball, we'd be all time worst team at defense and terrible 3 point shooting team. I'd rather just let Wood's contract expire and walk than have Young for several years. Please no.

Wow, Coop pointed out that if the Mavs win tomorrow, then we move into 5th place. We were 10th after losing to Minnesota last Monday.

I could see how you could and why they would. He's been at odds with the coach and team for a little bit and has been heavily rumored to be wanting out. I just don't see how you could do it without Wood and/or Green involved.

I don't buy it. I guess anything is possible, but I haven't seen anything more than speculation.

Agreed. Unless he forces his way out Atlanta will dump the coach and try and make it work before they move him unless they get an offer they just can?t refuse.
