Default NBA Attendance

Looking at attendance from last nights(11-3-03)games
and I saw where the Hawks-Hornets had only 5000+ fans
there and I think all of the other teams except for
the Mavs game and 1 other game had crappy attendance.

David Stern does a horrible job marketing the NBA. I live
in Austin and this week wil be the 3rd time I will "get"
to see Lebron play.(overrated player-another topic).

NBA Tonight and ESPN and TNT only shows literally only a
few frames of the MAVS. Yet WE sellout even pre-season
games and offer an exciting style of play and great
character guys (not with pending trials or probation
prone players). OUR guys play team ball. I am just sick
that I am forced fed games with teams that suck.

(I feel beter getting this off my chest)

Who wants to spend at 50-60 bucks per person to watch an 81-75 game? Stern is going to have to do something to stimulate offense. My fear is that he will overreact and scrap the zone.

I have thought of that...what will the NBA do to increase offense. No answer you can think of is going to be good for fans.

I have League Pass again this year. Even at $159.00, it is cheaper than taking the family to even one game. Sad.

We play the swiss cheese form of the zone which makes us run and gun our way towards victory.

Getting rid of the zone won't do one thing to increase offense, but that doesn't mean it won't happen. The zone eccourages ball movement and shooting. Nothing wrong with that.

The problem is that most coaches are scared to run. They want to play slow down ball with lots of iso plays. Then when they win the games 85-83, everybody talks about what great defensive coaches they are.

honestly, the talent level in the league is pretty diluted. when you tune into a game, some teams have some serious scrubs playing for them.

I don't remember which article it was I read, I think maybe FWST, that said the Mavs/Heat game was announced as sold out, but there were a lot of empty seats--similar to how the Stars kept their sellout streak alive although many games weren't really fully attended. Is this common at Mavs games now? B/c I was under the impression they weren't having problems selling at all.

You see it a lot in the lower bowl Ames. The games are sold out, but when a team like Miami comes to town a lot of those corporate season tickets go to waste.

Technically it is a sellout as they have sold the ticket, but you will find a lot of no shows, very similar to the stars.

I don't think that the talent level is necessarily diluted. I think it has to do more with all the talent being in the West for the most part.

This forces crappy Eastern conference teams to try and beat you almost solely on defense and by slowing down the game.... boring

yeah, that's kind of what i was getting at. 50% of the teams in the league are made up of 70% scrubs.

Garnett ejected, throws ball into the stands.
Bonzi Wells fined for making obscene jesture to the crowd.
Popovich ejected.

How can you justify paying high admission prices with this crap?

Sellouts continue in San Antonio, LA (lakers at least), Dallas, Sacramento, and New York. All but one are western teams, I think that explains it right there.

If you were the commish, what would you do differently (to stimulate offense, or whatever)?

this is a general question for everyone.

I would.....
1. try an schedule more of the up tempo type teams.

2. market the TEAMS not the players.

3. heavily fine the punks of the league to shape
up before they alienate more fans.
(example Bonzi flipping off the Home crowd)

4. back-2-back games dilute the quality of play as
these guys get exhausted.(check the Las Vegas odds
on when teams play in these. You could bank some
serious cash just betting this.)

5. Improve the referee's... (they are trying to do this)

.

I doesn't help play much with so many high school players coming into the league without well rounded games. Teams have to play these guys to get them experience and most of them just stink things up early on.

A development league that actually means something could help a lot. It used the be college ball, but not anymore.

We sell out the preseason because season ticket holders have to buy all the preseason games as well.
