Who will get the "salary waive" around the league
Jalen Rose -- Raptors
Darius Miles or Theo Ratliff -- Blazers
Eddie Jones -- Heat?
Howard with the Rockets
J.Williams -- M.Griz
Grant Hill -- Magic
B.Grant -- Lakers
Mullin would be an idiot not to release Fisher.

Help me add more.

I'd release Foyle before Fisher.

Add CWebb to that list......he is broken down, and worth no where near 17M a year for 3 more years.

That would be an ungodly amount of money to pay him, but I have to agree that he's a likely canidate. He's an aging, injury prone has-been who'd getting paid nearly half the salary cap.

Why would the Magic waive Hill? He only stopped playing this year when they were out of playoff contention -- and that was only as a precaution.
Unless I'm missing something, which may very well be the case..

IF (notice the caps) C Webb is released he would be very sought after.
I think he would make a great sub off our bench.
Philly would have to fire it's GM for making such a move.

If this exception gets used on this many players, the free agent period could be like the mall on December 24th. There's gonna be a lot of shopping going on.

RE:Who will get the "salary waive" around the league
why? Aren't the Raptors under the luxary tax threshold? What possible benefit could they gain by doing this that they couldn't have had already by releasing Rose. All this does is save on luxary tax, which the Raptors aren't paying as is.

Yeah, but no more money to be spent than before this provision. Releasing a player still doesn't increase the salary cap for a team.

LRB makes an excellent point.
I think some teams may use this to dump a problem child or head case.
Such as Portland with "what will bow up again someday" Z.Randolph

RE: Who will get the "salary waive" around the league
I think people are loosing sight of the fact that a team would have to be pretty deep in luxury tax territory to even consider using this exception. After Portland doesn't pick up Nick's option they'll be about $12MM below the cap and even further below the luxury tax threshold...it wouldn't make much sense to cut Randolph. He's so talented that you just have to hope that the next coach can get through to him.
Honestly, with the restrictions around the excemption I don't expect many teams to use it.
