Everytime I saw Greg Smith play last season he was either dunking on someone or sending someone's shot away. He seems like a high-energy, athletic guy.

All I can find is this Stein article which says "Miami is the closest thing to a frontrunner.."

Brian Windhorst @WindhorstESPN
As of last night, Heat & Luol Deng still significantly apart on salary, sources say. Deng's been turning down $10M/year offers for months

Atlanta offered him $11M per last week. Chicago offered $10M for three years..... Deng should wait to see about Parsons before signing $20M and two years.

Something tells me the Mavs aren't interested in Deng at 12 per.

They might not have a choice if Houston matches on Parsons... The pickin's are getting slim.

Agreed on Aminu. Strong rebounder with size, youth and tenacity. We could start I him and Lance together and have a strong five. I would prefer Lance plus Aminu over Parsons. Mo plus Lance provide lots of offense.

If Houston matches and it comes down to Stephenson vs. Deng, then I would lean towards Deng. Stephenson's 3pt shooting is trending upwards but was still only around 35% last season (33% in the previous season). Is that his ceiling or will he continue to improve? We don't really know. So, at this point in time its not clear to me if Lance will be any better than Deng if we look a perimeter shooting. Lance is young, energetic, and a physical defender. But his rebounding stats are as a SG, so can we expect something similar if he is logging significant minutes at the SF? Again, there is a risk.
The biggest advantage for Deng is BBIQ. One lesson from this past season is that BBIQ should not be underestimated as a key factor in winning championships. The Spurs in 2014 and the Mavs in 2011 showed that athleticism and pure talent is important (obviously), but team chemistry and smart decision making can help to overcome some (certainly not all) deficiencies. I'm not against Lance as a Mav, but would rather go with Deng at $12M per for two years or $11M and three years, than Lance at $10M per.
I hope this is a moot point because in the end Houston acts rationally and decides to let Parsons go

Whats with the media hype? Or is that the agents' doing? Only players that seem to be getting overpaid are the RFA. And Avery Bradley
Ariza 12-14, got 8
Pierce 10, got 5

Stephenson is 6 years younger than Deng, I wonder if that will play a role in the Mavs final decision.

Highly doubt it. Seems like the only thing we care about right now is being ready to hit the ground running for the next two years and both guys can do that. Seems like the immediate plan is to get as good as possible as quickly as possible even if it means getting players in their 30s, which I'm okay with, because it means that we're trying to go all-in on Dirk's remaining years. Just wish they'd also keep some more young talent around to develop for when Dirk is retired.

Poor Deng - dude has so many miles on those tires that people already lump him into the 30+ crowd... He just turned 29 in April.

I thought he was older than Dirk to be honest. I was pretty shocked to see that he wasn't even 30.

Might've been the year before? Didn't he only play about 11 games last year because of an injury?

Re: Lance
It does seem pretty split on those who would be alright having him on board versus those who don't want anything to do with him.

How do Rick and Dirk feel? Not that I think you can answer that.

How about this, then. Based on your understanding of how the Mavs work, if Rick said "I don't want that guy on my team", do you think Dallas would sign that guy?

@daldridgetnt: Luol Deng still deciding, per source, which almost always means "high bid wins." MIA still ahead. Mavs in it but trailing b/c of Parsons sheet.

I don't think he would ever really say that. He trusts Mark and Donnie and they trust him to get everything he can out of a player. While I don't know this for a fact, I think Carlisle revels in the idea of being a guy who can get the most out of any situation.

@WojYahooNBA: Yahoo Sources: Miami, Luol Deng agree on 2-year, $20M deal.
@WojYahooNBA: Deal will include a player option on the second year of Deng's deal, source tells Yahoo.

Why are these guys agreeing to contracts when the Mavs might be in play later, and for more $$$? I find this very strange. Maybe word on the street is that the Rockets are not going to match.

Or not. I doubt these guys are leaving money on the table. I just think the market was softer than media reports had indicated it would be.

Whats hilarious is Deng turning down 10m deals left and right, and settles for the exact same price
