Default Butler wants out of Minny

I am not a huge fan and haven't liked the drama he has been involve din over the last few years..but he is a very good play.

Having said that....does anyone think he would be worth going after?

Matthews
for
Butler

DSJ
Butler
Luka
Barnes
DJ.....................would be a very nice and versatile starting 5.

I hate this crap so much...."Im leaving in a year for sure, so you better trade me to one of these teams..."

Chris Paul did this crap too. And its awesome doing it when your prefered team wont have cap space the next summer.

And no, we are not on his short list (guess Lakers/Knicks/Boston, he is tight with Irving) and Minny wont trade him for crap (aka Wes)

Well why do it right before the season starts? Boy that Markannen trade is looking pretty awful right about now...

He wants to go to the Clippers, Nets, or Knicks. No reason trade for him if he won't sign an extension.

We don’t even have anything to offer Minny unless we’re willing to part with Barnes or Jordan for a 1-year rental in Butler... We traded our 2019 pick for Doncic, can’t trade 2020 because of the consecutive picks rule. I doubt Wes/2021 pick is getting it done.

That and a lot of people are really happy he's leaving. He's either a malcontent about Minny or he's just generally a locker room cancer. No way of telling which one until he arrives, but I would be very weary of trading for a guy like that if you're not one of his preferred locations.

Can't even trade 2021 until the ATL pick confers, because there's a chance that that pick doesn't confer in 2019 and 2020. We can't trade a first round pick until draft day of whatever year the pick actually goes to Atlanta, which means the earliest we can offer a first rounder is next offseason.

10-13 without Butler 37-22 with him. Pretty sure KAT and Wiggins are the real problem. Butler doesn't strike me as the type to be an issue to someone unless that someone doesn't work as hard as he does. I really really really like Butler but even if we had the assets(we don't imo) I'm not trading for someone without an extension.

There is something concerning to me about a good player in his prime demanding to be traded to 3 teams that are a mess.
However, I've read that him and Irving might want to team up together in NY.
Not sure Knicks will have enough for two max deals but that does make some sense.

Mavs shouldn't even consider him imo unless Matthews is the best asset going out.

If Butler was 25 and not nearly 30, I'd say you should hit the eject button on Wiggins and/or KAT, whoever Butler is having that kind of trouble with. But I suspect Butler is going to turn into a pumpkin sometime before the end of the 20-21 season, so I would say the Wolves should get whatever kind of meaningful value they can for him now and just move on. Might be a chance to re-evaluate the timetable for this Timberwolves core as well.

Butler having problems with Hoiberg in Chicago, ok, pass. Butler having in season problems with KAT, red flag, but you can work through it. Butler taking KAT's girlfriend to Italy....red flag......KAT should tell Minny it's him or me...not Butler demanding a trade, either way, he should have new colors before the end of the week....as talented as he is, he's a lockerroom cancer.

His work ethic is 2nd to none. He has worked for everything, light recruitment out of HS, last pick in the first round, he worked his way up....then gets on a team with Wiggins and KAT, 2 kids who went first overall, was wanted by every college coach...doesn't have the same work ethic as Butler. Butler's been in the gym an hour before everyone else getting shots up. KAT and Wiggins walks in off the street and dominates practice.

I took those from minny's forum.

Wasn't KAT the one who dispelled the rumor about his gf and Jimmy? So far the only thing I've seen as proven is Jimmy doesn't respect people who do not put in the level of work or are wasting their potential.

As for Wiggins- was that last part just hyperbole? Because Wiggins, by my estimations, can't dominate anything and is one of the absolute worst contracts in the NBA.

Once again, I take it as Jimmy just not wanting to be in Minneapolis. I don't think it's the coach, or players, or franchise. His preferred teams are in LA, NYC, or Miami.

That's why there is no point in the Mavericks in making a call. He won't play here.

@wojespn: Sources: Miami has been the most engaged team with Minnesota on a Jimmy Butler trade. So far, no traction with Clippers and Nets. Houston's tried to be creative in its pursuit. It'll be a challenge -- although not impossible -- to get any Butler deal done without a third team.

Nets won't get it in. They've already what moving future assets can do to a franchise....not for a year.....but for yearS. I think it'll be Miami.

ESPN mentioned we've made inquiries. Not surprising, no way we have the assets unless they really love Wes or Barnes. Still worth noting.

Wonder if there's smoke there or if they're just pondering about teams with the cap room to re-sign him.

Still think he ends up in Miami.

I'm not interested in any scenario involving Luka or Dennis, and I doubt Wes gets it done, so I think you're looking at Barnes-for-Butler... Which I would do even as a 1-year rental, seeing as how Barnes expires in 2020 anyway. Obviously I'd want Butler to sign an extension, but if he walks and Jordan comes off the books, we could realistically chase two max/near-max FAs in a summer where not only do you have Butler/Jordan as UFAs, but also Durant, Kawhi, Klay, Boogie, etc. (not to mention RFAs like KAT and Porzingis).

I mean, I doubt Butler ends up coming here, but I see little downside if he does.

Looks like Tommy T. don't want to play, supposedly asking for everything, solid vets, elite prospects, future assets and cap relief.

I'd wager $50 that Butler sits inactive through at least October and maybe through the TDL.

The problem is that they paid Lavine, Dunn, and a #7 (Markannen) for him and now they want at least half that value back, which they aren't going to get for a guy who may be a lockerroom issue and is an expiring deal.

Good teams think they can poach him this summer in free agency. Bad teams are weary that if they spend too much, he may be a locker room issue, will walk in free agency, or both.

I half wonder if Barnes, Brunson, and two second rounders won't get it done when the deal finally gets done similar to Noel when he was traded. Maybe Matthews, Brunson, and two seconds. Minny thinks they have an asset and Butler was a star, but the pressure is really on them.

I think some team could trump Wes, Brunson, two 2nds. Barnes, Brunson and two 2nds might end up being enough though. That would give us enough room to resign Butler to max or around 35m and DeAndre to something like 20m per, correct? Regardless of Powell opting in or out.

Wes, Brunson, one second and Powell for Butler/Dieng? Is that close enough salary-wise?

Someone out there can offer a better package. That isn't enticing to Minnesota at all.

Someone can, but the question is if anyone will. As I said:

Bad teams won't offer much because they're afraid he'll be a lockeroom headache and will ditch the team for greener pastures this offseason

good teams will just wait until the offseason thinking they can nab him for free then.

Oh, I know it's highly unlikely. I agree they can probably get a better package. But not too terribly much better. Like Washington maybe would offer Porter. But no way they take back Dieng. Depends on what the TWolves priorities are. Do they even know? Thibs wants to win now, but he's probably gone after the season. Hard to predict what will happen with an organization in chaos. Miami may be the high bidder by virtue of being capped out next season- hence, it may their only shot at Butler. If I'm Minny I ask an extra lot from the teams that he wants to play for. Butler wants the supermax or whatever and they shouldnt go out of their way to appease the malcontent. Take the best offer-- with the caveat that the best offer from Miami or LA includes a little baked in "tax".

Look like Butler is done for certain there though. So Minny's only leverage is playing teams against each other.

Not sure how serious Mavs interest is, but it seems to me we would have to pick up the tab for Dieng in any scenario. Don't see us having the assets any other way unless they love Wes and or Barnes.

Not even sure I want Butler. He takes the ball out of our young guns hands. And doesn't space the floor too well. But when healthy he is a top 15-20 player, and when those come available you have to at least explore.

Wes/Brunson/Powell for Butler/Dieng is the most I would offer.
I wouldn't consider Barnes unless Butler would be willing to sign extension because I honestly don't see us signing a better FA than Barnes next off-season.

Just don't see Butler as a realistic possibility for the Mavs in any scenario.

Wouldnt give up a ton either: mileage, huge and onerous contract coming, not a great teammate, needs ball in hands(for ego as well as skillset reasons seemingly) and doesnt quite fit our timeline. This last one doesnt bother me all too much tbh. Butler is arguably top 15 guy in the league and accelerating the timeline of DSJ and Doncic could be a beneficial thing. Of course, it could be the opposite, as we saw happen in Minny.

I think its just mbt doing their due dilligence and seeing if we could grab him for Wes, Powell, Brunson and some picks.

Butler is almost certainly a top-15 player today, but the odometer is about to cross 30 and he's going to turn into a pumpkin about two years into that 5-year, $180M contract or whatever the terms are. Buyer beware!

Jimmy Butler screamed, "You (expletive) need me. You can't win without me” to GM Scott Layden during practice this morning. (via ESPN)

Sounds like Rondo

He knows the only way he’s getting max is to force a trade and now he’s causing distractions to ensure it happens. And wouldn’t want this idiot anywhere near our young guys. Hard pass

I just saw his interview with Rachel Nichols.....this is the type of veteran this organization needs. He wants to win. Wiggins and KAT are just too young and immature right now.

Wes, Brunson, one second and Powell for Butler/Dieng? Is that close enough salary-wise?
They have absolutely no reason at all to make that deal. I would love to get Butler though.

Wait, so this happened at Wednesday's practice and then Rachel Nichols and crew just happened to be in Minny to interview him? Sounds like Butler knew what he was going to do in advance and set up that "post-op" for afterward. I like this guy less and less the more I hear.

That said, If Minny had Josh Richardson, Bam and a pick on the table and didn't take it because Thibs still thinks they can win him back they are idots. Even so, they don't deserve to be shown up by Butler. He's under contract and they have no obligation to trade him.

I actually wouldn't offer them anything more than Wes and if they want Powell and/ or DFS.

I would be hesitant to even include Brunson or too many pics and I would def. not give up Barnes for Butler.

I would give up anyone on our roster other than Luka/DSJ/Dirk/Jordan if Butler agreed to an extension... Otherwise I don't see any reason to even try to get him -- one-year rentals are for contenders, not rebuilds.

Agreed, keeping him around destroys the lockerroom and when you have Wiggins and Towns, whom Minny is going to mark as their cornerstones...Thibs is stupid. Taylor knew what a trade demand does to a franchise, even when first issued, Thibs publicly said no trade, Taylor says trade. That in itself is a major red flag. When Butler's 2 biggest problems are still in the lockerroom, it ain't going to resolve itself. Richardson, Bam and future pick, would probably have saved Thibs' job....but without much of an improvement on last year, he's gone at the end of the year.

Not to mention Bam is the perfect guy to put next to Towns. Good rim protector and gives them a rim runner. And Richardson can help space the floor and is a good defender too.
