GDT Game 23 - Nuggets (9-15) at Mavs (5-18) 7:30 FSSW
Nuggets have struggled of late. Good youth, bad coaching and inconsistent scoring and interior defense. They could just as easily blow us out by 30 as be our second 20 pt blowout win. Mavs always play harder in front of the troops, too, and this is one of those games.
Mavs going to have to fight hard to get us our 19th loss. Hopefully they can make that happen. Nuggets are at least a strong rebounding team and we've been outrebounded by 10 rebounds per game in the games Bogut has been injured.
Nuggets 6-8 on the road
Mavs 4-7 at home
Injuries
Dirk - Achilles - indefinitely
Barea - calf - indefinitely
Bogut - knee sprain - 1-3 more weeks
Harris - foot - minute restrictions (30mpg)

Correction: In the four games Bogut has missed, we've been outrebounded by 10rpg, not 18+.
Also, overall this season we're getting outrebounded by 5.9 boards a game (awful), but we've been even worse in Bogut's absence.
Denver Nuggets are #1 in rebound differential, so we should get our butts handed to us on the glass.

This is what the Mavs are eatin' tonight... well, not exactly, but no one will notice the difference between Beaver and Otter Nuggets after the beatin'....
Mavs - 118
Otter (Beaver) Nuggets - 108

Tonight is going to be hard to watch. When measured in rebound differential, Nuggets are first place (1) and Mavs are last place (30)
Stacking the stat sheet is about the only way I can see us keeping up on the boards.

Expect a lot of Off boards too. Faried is super active around the glass...and I see Mudiay having a field day vs Mavs defense

This is the best the Mavs have played all season in these few minutes.

Looks like the strategy of giving contracts to basically every undrafted player with some potential in the world paid off big time with DFS.

I don't think anyone who saw time on the floor looked bad in that first half. That's definitely a first.

DFS in November-
20mins 34%FG 25%3PT 2.1Rebs .9Ast .3Blk .5Stl 4.3PPG
DFS in December-
29mins 47.2%FG 40%3PT 3.5Rebs 1.2Ast .5Stl .5Blk 7.8PPG
And if you took out his 2 games vs Hornets this month he's over 10ppg on over 50% shooting and 45% 3pt.

Yeah, but I think he needs to be versatile enough to not get killed by bigs if the team needs him there. I definitely think that is an area of his game he needs to improve.

I doubt the stats support it but this might be Salah's best game. I heard them say 4 blocks and only 8 boards but just his presence alone has altered way more than just 4 blocks.

I think the fast breaks have helped him find some sort of comfort. Just in terms of not feeling so stiff maybe. He's not far along offensively to be a quality player in half court sets consistently I don't think. He might be the one who suffers the most with us being the worst transition team in the NBA.

I'm wondering what his trade value will be at the deadline. Seems a contender could use his skills as he can have an impact on any given game.
Would GSW give up a 1st for him?
Would Houston have an interest in him?

I'm not sure he rebounds well enough and the fact that he is 30 already to be worth a 1st even to a top contender. I think where he would be most valuable is to a team like the Cavs who are going to have some tax issues. Salah's small contract combined with his rim protection is likely somewhat rare. Even then I don't see it being a 1st. But it could be something like a 2nd owed by another team to a contender. Cavs have a 2019 2nd owed to them by either the Wolves or the Lakers, whicherver is least valuable. The more valuable one goes to Portland... who also have some tax problems so maybe a 31-45 type 2nd is the best we can hope for in a Salah trade is my guess.
And Rockets have both Denver and Portland 2nd's this coming draft. Both are looking pretty solid value wise... but with it being Houston I just don't think either team wants to help the other in any way. Morey prolly answers the phone like the Rockets trolls here. By shouting Jason Terry's name 66 times into the receiver when nobody is even there.

We won??? That's not how you tank!
I'm writing an angry email to Mark Cuban.

We might have to get used to it....this team is beginning to get it together with multiple players contributing now.
Catch 22 situation....we want to see them grow and develop but not so much that it ruins our chance at a potential superstar in the draft.
Like I've said before, want to see those 1pt losses with young players growing into larger roles.

The thing that concerns me is getting on a winning streak with the old vets being the catalysts.
If Cuban and Donnie were flirting with a youth movement at the beginning of the season, they most definitely should run with one now. Bringing JJ, Dirk and Bogut back into large roles to chase the 8th spot would be foolish at this point. I can see them coming back in mentor roles but not as main core pieces to chase that 8th spot.
You want that 8th spot? Fine but do it with the young guys (Barnes, DFS, Anderson, Powell, Brussino, Curry, etc....). I honestly don't know why Hammons is even on the team. Seems Rick would at least try him in meaningful minutes....especially with Bogut out.

Love Cubes and the team, and will cheer for these guys forever, but we are sacrificing our future for 10 plus wins. So dumb, and we will make this season a true waste that way.
