Now if Dwayne Casey ever lost his job...I'd be on the phone in an instant. Dude was one of the most talented player and X/O guys we've ever had.
Agreed, any hire of Kidd as a bench guy, is made only for a splash. He should not be getting a bench job any time soon. His X's and O's are very limited to 2 man games. Plus in the media he's passing the buck time and time again, after a top 4 finish was projected by management, the firing made sense.

Now if an organization had a player development role available....he'd be my pick.

Kidd....amazing PG, sucked ass as a coach. Bucks entire offense was a joke.

Mavs: Want a player development position?
Kidd: Great! Which players?
Mavs: Player.
Kidd: I'd be only working with Smith?

The Cleveland Cavaliers held an emotional team meeting prior to Monday’s practice, where several players challenged the legitimacy of Kevin Love leaving OKC loss on Saturday ill and missing Sunday’s practice, league sources tell ESPN.
Quote:
In a locker room increasingly full of finger-pointing, Love defended himself and explained his side to teammates, coaches and management, sources said. At end of meeting, there was a sense with some that team had worked out some issues, but that ultimately remains to be seen.

This is what happens when your star player is also your GM and your coach... There's zero accountability, zero leadership -- nobody to right the ship. The Cavs are rudderless.

I actually think LeBron is a good leader (I know, I know) but the fact is when the organization is constantly trying to please you it a) tends to result in a misaligned, poorly managed roster and b) isolates other players. This is why the Cavs are old, have a lot of turnover, and have a hard time incorporating new faces. This is also why Kyrie demanded a trade. He saw the writing on the wall.

I think LeBron is an excellent on-court leader, but his pull as a GM/coach undermines the actual GM and coach to the point where they can’t do their jobs properly. He makes the personnel decisions or he walks. He gets a yes-man for a coach or he walks. It’s not just his clout, but also his overestimation of his abilities to put a squad together that has this team in shambles... He wanted Love, he wanted Smith, he wanted Thompson. he wanted Rose, he wanted Wade — hell, he even wanted Calderon.

Dude wants to “be like Mike,” but maybe he should wait until he retires as a player before he fails as a GM...

Completely agee. Lebron should have allowed space for the GM and coach(es) to do their thing instead of holding the Cavs hostage to do his bidding. The Cavs could have a lineup of Kyrie - Shooter - Wiggins - Lebron - Literally Anybody right now, instead they’re looking at a massive cap-strapped rebuild once Lebron leaves for the Rockets. They have $55 million alone committed to Love, Smith, and Thompson alone.

Maybe Cavs gift Mavs Love this off-season for absorbing Smith or Thompson. Along with a high draft pick and DSJ’s development I think that would get the Mavs in the playoffs.

The cherry on it all is that Lebron for whatever reason has a reluctance to tell them if he will resign or not, which has handcuffed them. That's why Cleveland hasn't traded their pick to help him more. If he truly wanted to remain in Cleveland and told them as much I'd bet anything they would trade that pick for help right now. Not many superstar players leave when the FO is so willing to construct a team to their liking. The Cavs have constructed themselves according to what Lebron wanted(or forced them to do) and his final "F-U" to them is having them nuke the franchise when he leaves(again) all because he may now see a faster route somewhere else(again).

Problem with super teams is there are 27-28 other teams that are falling apart and feeling the pressure.

Yep, he's holding the franchise hostage, just like he did with Cleveland the first time. No one in their right mind would have given JR Smith 4 years 44 or Thompson 5 82 million. I'd actually love to see Lebron play 1 year in a city and then move on to another one. LA for a year, NY for a year, Sac for a year, etc.....

Let the rumors begin!

@wojespn: Sacramento and Cleveland continue to discuss a deal for guard George Hill, league sources tell ESPN. Iman Shumpert and Channing Frye are primary players in ongoing conversations.

@AlexKennedyNBA: NEW PODCAST! @Sam_Amick and I discuss rumors involving Kawhi Leonard, Kemba Walker, Damian Lillard, DeAndre Jordan, Lou Williams, Jordan Clarkson, Julius Randle, Rodney Hood, Tyreke Evans, Evan Fournier and George Hill. Oh, and what LeBron may do in July: http://hoopshype.com/2018/01/23/nba-...ture-and-more/

Most likely concerning the BSPN article I linked, claiming a rift in the Spurs organization rooted from Kawhi's injury/rehab. Hard eyeroll.

Apparently things are souring between Leonard and the Spurs FO. He wants out because they aren't putting any stars around him to get over the hump... But it sounds like they're having trouble luring stars because, like Dirk, he isn't buddy-buddy with a lot of guys around the league -- not to mention that the injuries are starting to pile up.

What are the odds that Kawhi is traded? Rumors that he "wants out"

Aldridge also seems unhappy and may be part of the cause of Kawhi being unhappy

Dunno, but it went from "nothing" to a "dull rumble" rather quickly... Still not sure how much there is to the rumor though. Kinda getting the same vibes from this BSPN story as I did with the Kraft/Belichick/Brady nonsense that was quickly dispelled with another trip to the Super Bowl. I mean, maybe there's some animosity, but that doesn't mean these people aren't professionals who can't get their jobs done... Just not sure if Leonard is really on the market.

Between Aldridge asking for a trade and a lot of rumblings, I think it's at least plausible that one of the two of them are traded, but you may be right.

The real problem is whether Leonard becomes Chandler Parson with regards to being injured all the time. He has played 9 games this season. Asking for a trade or not is the least of his problems.

No way in hell Kawhi gets traded... any tension between him and team is solely due to his injury and perhaps him being more cautious than the team wanting to be.

He's been in the playoffs every years he been in the league. He's been to the conference finals 4 out of 6 seasons. He's been to the Finals twice and was Finals MVP.

His team is 31 - 18 largely without him, tied with the T-Wolves for the 3/4 seed. Short of getting traded to the Warriors I simply don't see why he would want out.

I can think of a couple reasons.

1) How much longer Poppovich is going to coach is something I've heard questioned several times.

2) Most of his better teammates are aging i.e. Tony Parker, Pau Gasol, Manu Ginobili. Even Rudy Gay & Danny Green are entering the downhill side of their careers.

3) I heard it said recently (I think on this forum actually) that Kawhi Leonard is a lot like Dirk & isn't buddy buddy with a lot of NBA players. Meaning in this new AAU, recruit players to my team to make a super team NBA era, Kawhi isn't the type of personality to do that. He may see joining a super team as a necessity to competing during his prime years, so he may think he has a much better chance of leaving to join a super team rather than staying in SA & trying to recruit players to the Spurs.

Not to mention, we never hear about anything problematic with the Spurs. The mere fact this is out there, at the very least, suggests there could be a pretty serious rift between Leonard & the organization.

First take is a horrendous source for serious sports journalism, but I saw this clip last night. Apparently, it's been known for awhile now in NBA circles that Kawhi wants out of San Antonio. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yWaKWLFSRIA

So strange about Kawhi. Never would've seen that coming. The Ringer had a fun hypothetical trade scenario column. The dumbest one was Denver trading Jokic, Murray, Wilson Chandler, Lyles and a 1st round pick for him. Why would he be happy going to Denver with no one to play with?

Boston, once again, has the assets.

You don't pick up your player option for next season 3 months after going to the boss and asking for a trade. In addition he received a 2 year 50 million dollar extension, both sides seemed pretty dang happy, 3 months after the demand. He could have played out this season and walked, forget the trade demand. All Star season, best numbers as a Spur, another 50 million in the bank.....pretty happy to me.

Philly gave the Spurs a SPANKING tonight! (Gives me some remote hope the Kings could sneak a miracle W out vs SA on Sunday)

Well, that eliminates a potential trade target for Cleveland... Getting Wes might be one of the better options they have if they want to compete this season.

It probably also eliminates one team potentially trading for Wes. Skin was on the radio earlier saying the Pelicans could have been a potentially suitor for him.

Why would the Mavs trade for Boogie's expiring without any guarantee that he'd re-sign? We're not in win-now mode, so basically we'd just be giving Matthews away... Was NO going to attach a pick or something? Seems like they could do better.

Isn't that the Wes Matthews injury? If so, Boogie likely will never be the same player. Tough luck.
