He's said multiple times that he would have liked to see the group stick together but he understood that it wasn't going to happen. As for the other part, he's going to question things, which is what he's doing.

Hate to go back and rehash the off-season after the Chip, but the guys he let go were not old. JJB, Chandler, Stevenson. Has he not heard of win curves or other theology of having a superstar and trying your best to win when you have one. he put everything on hope and dreams when he had the winning formula and a superstar who had 2-3 more years as the leader.

Sometimes winning a championship can make people cocky. Jerry Jones was so cocky after his second super bowl, he basically ran Jimmy Johnson out of town, and announced that 500 coaches could take his team to a Super Bowl. 17 years later, well.....

So Cuban has the perfect situation, he breaks it up wanting more. How about keep your parts, and if someone great wants to come here, ad him. But don't start removing guys when you have no replacement. This mess is on Cuban

It was a special season and one of the greatest sports moments in my life, but also quite a Cinderella story tbh. Forget the lockout year and I think even this year it's quite a reach that we would compete with the championship-core.

But I'll give you that Chandler might be better than anything we can get in this years FA (and have gotten in last years, and the year before).

No offense, but sometimes I wonder when people finally start to realize that this wouldn't have been possible cap-wise.

Signing Chandler, JJB, Stevenson, Caron to the multi-year deals they were searching for would have essentially locked up the roster for the next years.

That's a pathetic characterization by you. Pathetic. First off, it's not even accurate. Second, it is unduly hostile. Third, it hints at (unsubstantiated) prior claims. Fourth, it falls into the trap of judging a writer by *one* article, when said journalist writes one article almost every day.

Save your sanctimonious bullshit for yourself. If you think you can do a better job, and care to, apply for the position. Otherwise, quit bitching.

I think it is called a trade.

i'm surprised it took him so long to speak out. dirk is just too old to go through another rebuilding process. they had everything in place for another run at the title but they decided to blow it up. letting chandler go was probably the biggest mistake in franchise history.

he was a key contributor to your championship team and you only offer him a one year deal afterwards? that it just pathetic. talk about new cba all you want, but the guy was only 29 years old when he signed with a knicks and was a unique type of player at his position with his size, quickness and explosiveness.

My .02.

Waiting until this offseason would be totally foolish as the chances of landing the 2 biggest assets are basically 0. There has to be a fairly significant trade in the next week or 2 to fortify our low post defense. If we can get a solid back up (or even starting) PG as part of the deal, then you do it. Everyone expect Dirk and Mayo should be available (though Collison would also be off the table unless there was an upgrade at PG available, which is not likely right now). Timing is everything here. We're seeing Dirk's numbers improving each outing, yet he's getting increasingly frustrated. If a difference maker doesn't happen now and the Mavs see another slump, I'm betting on Dirk retiring at the end of his contract. Which would put us on a 3 to 5 year rebuild from scratch plan hoping to get lucky in a draft.

I see Dirk's knee has weighed in with his opinion. Thanks.

I wonder how much better this team would be with a smart veteran PG like Andre Miller.

Nobody questioned whether Dirk was pissed or not. It was the idea of trading Dirk that is completely off base.

I listened to them. He sounded frustrated, which is understandable considering they'd just lost to the Hornets.

And McMahon did, in fact, misrepresent something. The only time Dirk ever said the word "trade" was in the context of the past. As in "Once we didn't sign Deron, I knew there'd only be two options, to trade me or to bring in a bunch of 1 year contracts.".

Unless I missed it, that's the ONLY time he ever even said the word "trade". And yet, McMahon says in the opening paragraph that Dirk was "wondering whether it'd be in the Mavs' best interests to trade him." That's not even close to what he did.

Also, he highlighted the more inflammatory parts of the interview without giving equal time to the counter balancing quotes.

For instance, he completely left this quote out of the article:

Quote:
It's kinda early to judge...to judge to see if letting Tyson and everybody go was a mistake. Until we see how next summer plays out, we didn't get to use our cap space last summer, so now we have to see what can happen or via trade or something, what we can pull out next summer. Until then I don't think we really know if letting everybody go was a mistake or not.
Now, when paired with Dirk's later quotes about planning around hope, you get the full picture of Dirk talking through the decision and bringing up points on both sides of the issue. But McMahon completely glossed over that quote, only VERY loosely paraphrasing it in the article before hammering home the point about the hope quote.

McMahon can hide behind the shield of "I didn't report Dirk requesting a trade", but he knew what he was doing when he inserted the trade Dirk idea simply because Dirk mentioned a past hypothetical situation where they might have thought about trading him.

Seeing as how they somehow managed to be better with Derek Fisher...

The irony here is that Dwaine Price is, in fact, a horrible beat writer. Quite possibly the worst I've ever read. So seeing McMahon and Price go back and forth is weird. I have no idea whose side I'm on.

Can I just be on BG's side?

I have to say, it is a little depressing to hear Dirk waving the white flag on this season.. as much I had already realized that as a fan.

Never liked Caplan, MacMahon and that JJT guy on ESPNDallas. Can't judge em on a professional basis, but all of them seemed to love themselves more than what they do. Plus too much all-around pessimism and criticism on the team.

Especially JJT should stick to football.

Possible, but it's a reach. Chandler is an elite complementary guy, but it's not like you would be switching franchise-players with an interested partner. JET, JJB, Caron solid role players, nice additions, but it would at least take a third team to get you talent & picks.

Price lacks any semblance of insight or intelligence, but he doesn't twist things like MacMahon. It's funny to watch him squirm now.

Right, they are both terrible in different ways.

You give JJT too much credit for football.
