Default PGT: Mavs tried hard-- again

Not much to say. Mayo is a scrub. Dirk is still not driving or being as aggressive as a healthy Dirk. We allowed 53% shooting from three. This team just cannot finish games or play more than 7minutes without allowing a -8 run. Oh, and refs were god awful.

Hayward with the All-Star performance for tonight. This team simply lacks defense...

Roddy was our crunch time PG so I guess we are already tanking.

On the other side: Not that Collison had a stellar night. Mike James! Wohooo!

Again a very bad crunchtime but again the Mavs got completly f*cked over the game...the amount of horsecalls were amazing...

I really lost count...Celtics OT, Thunder OT, now this one...etc

The And-1 against Carter with clear position, the obvious goaltend of Williams, all the blocks against DC/Roddy with extreme bodycontact and then the crap in the final minutes...

Story of the season. They play terrible but the refs taking them down for the final points...

This team sucks.

Dirk can't drop 29 in a fourth quarter against Utah every time, I suppose.

I thought being stuck on 86 points forever was the real backbreaker, but that buzzer beater was ridiculous. No one even hustled to get that loose ball.

Who could have guessed that the Mavs would lose another close game?!? Of course, Hollinger always told us it was just luck. I guess this team is just "unlucky" now?

Look, it's real simple. This team has some nice pieces, but they aren't very good together. They certainly can't play well in crunch time. I don't think I see that getting any better either. Oh, I have no doubt that Dirk's greatness will win a few more games, but he is going to have to do more than ever...and I mean ever! It's just pathetic.

I was glad to see Rick go with Roddy as the crunch time point guard. It didn't matter tonight, but it sure didn't make things any worse. Collison craps his pants in a close game.

I hate not seeing more of Brand. I know that Kaman was having a nice statistical night, but I don't trust him. I know Elton got the technical, but I would still rather see him.

I would like to see another crunch time switch though: play Marion! I know that Shawn isn't much of an offensive threat. I know that Rick wants to play Vince. I know that a lot of fans hate that, but I am not one of them. I want Vince on the floor when it matters too. The solution is to take Mayo off the floor. He can't dribble, pass, or shoot when it matters right now, and he sure can't guard anyone.

My closers would be Roddy, Vince, Marion, Dirk, and Brand next game. It might fail like everything else, but I would give it a shot.

Mike James, Roddy B and Jared Cunningham are our tank commanders right now. Mayo a padawan.

Hoping we drop to at least the 8 spot and pull off a Chicago Bulls 2008-like miracle.

He waited to long IMHO. Once Dirk went back in, Roddy should have been substituted in. Roddy checks in...4 quick pts for Dirk. Why do Mayo/Collison make such hard work out of dumping the ball off to initiate the offense?

But don't they have to see if mayo is a keeper?

Knowing the Mavs can't draft for shit though, that's the disheartening part.

Wow. We are really at the point where Roddy is our choice to deliver the ball to Dirk? Some credit to him as he steadily improves lately, but man our PG situation is bleak.

Mayo needs to learn how come off a screen while pushing forward to get off a quality shot. That will determine whether or not he is a keeper.

With three lottery picks in recent history, I'd say you are wrong.

6th netted us a hall-of-famer (Dirk)
5th netted us Devin Harris who is still servicable
12th netted us Etan Thomas who played 8 seasons

Roddy came in the end of the match and Dirk finally took right passes to post up.
Collison and Mayo are good players but they don't fit together, because no one can make their teamates better. This is where Kidd is missing the most.

I think surely we can make a run but i don't think we can make the playoffs and of course, i don't like Mavs to tank the season. Unfortunately we don't have the pieces to trade for someone who can play the #2 role behind Dirk (unless we can make a Kwame type deal, which i doubt) and this is the first time, in the last 6 years which i follow Mavs, that i 'm very pessimistic about the future.

Thoughts:

- Matt Harpring, I hope you choke on a d!ck

- How in god's name was that wrestling takedown by Favors on Dirk not a flagrant?

- Oh right, it was because the officials sucked.

- It seems like every time we play the Jazz there are several points during the game when I find myself thinking that I'd like to see Hayward on the Mavs. This is the first time I can remember thinking that for the entire game, though.

- Not to ignore the likelihood that the Mavs have suffered unfairly through some missed goaltending calls lately, but I feel like I've seen so many blocked layup attempts in the last couple weeks that I'm in danger of developing PTSD.

- Dirk is still clearly not back to being Dirk, but he gave a good effort during crunch-time. And I though his defensive movement was the best I've seen it since he's been back, which is encouraging.

- OJ, what the hell, man? I knew you weren't going to keep hitting 60% of your threes all year, but could hardly have picked a worse time to turn into Antoine Walker.

- Both Kaman and Brand had some quality contributions tonight. Good enough to win with. Though I'd still like to see their roles switched.

- Lament Booby's turn as the crunch time point guard if you want, but the fact of the matter is that he's earned the chance he got to close tonight by consistently playing with poise on the offensive end and energy on the defensive end, and he ran the team pretty effectively down the stretch. I, for one, was pleased with both the rotation choice and the response.

Honestly, I think Roddy was in purely for defensive purposes on Hayward more than anything else. It happened right after Hayward wrecked Collison with the drive / spin move.

Edit: Carlisle said it was because he liked Roddy's "engineering" (?)

Roddy just likes the Jazz. If he could play them 82 times, star potential!

Watching NBA games in Utah is just brutal, and it always has been. I don't understand why every ref crew loses their mind in that state.

I'm developing a genuine dislike for Vince Carter. I realize it's at least 50% irrational, as he's had a pretty good season, but I can't help it. He just does so many things that annoy me.

Roddy played awfully well (for him). I'll be curious to see if this continues.

EB playing this well consistently would provide a pretty significant lift for the team, I think.

What was up with the random Jared Cunningham sighting?

Where are the quotes from Collison? Surely he has voiced his displeasure of being pulled out at the end?

I'm the complete opposite with Vince. I'm fully aware of his annoying (not least because they seem so correctable) tendencies, but I absolutely love the way he competes and the breadth of his contributions.

Right there with you on Jared, though. Nothing against him, and there's plenty of other stuff to point to when trying to explain the loss, but given how much every game right now matters and how tough it is to win in SLC it was a bit odd to see him out there.

He should spend less time reading fan mail and more time fixing the roster... ;-)

Our main problem this season is that we suck on the fourth quarter. Especially on clutch time.

I miss Jason Terry.

How have they done recently? More specifically passing on number 17 pick Tyler Zeller which is turning out to be a serviceable center for the cavs.
I think Donnie needs to go. He's great when Cuban just hands him a blank check and he can spend his way to contention but he hasn't netted us one player in the draft.

Oh I'm sure it was him. He responds quite a bit to emails from fans. He even had the video, graphics crew do some work for me once on the dirk scream they used to have on the video screen during intros.

Very accessible.
