Not to be the "anti-stat" poster but I think this year the stats can really be thrown out the door.....

no player but Jamison had any real consistent play or knowledge of their roles...

you can point out that @ some point in the year Finley got hot....

Dirk got hot...

Nash was Magic Johnson and had like double digit assists every game...

and even Walker was good....

the regular season stats isn't a good indication of the player's "normal" performances and the playoff stats are even worse....

Nice work, MFF.

Puba, you have a point to an extent about the season vs playoffs, but I posted these comparisons for a variety of reasons.

One of them was to show that while the defense is focused on Nash, Dirk, and Daniels, they've all managed to up their shots per game. Many have argued that with those 3 constantly being guarded that Finley and Walker should be picking up the slack, yet their shots per game are down. True, they have to make what they've been given, but I'm just putting stuff out there.

Other than Dirk's 3pt shooting and Howard's ft%, everyone has dropped from the regular season. Other than Dirk and Daniels, everyone's ppg have dropped.

A few other things, but they'll probably go unnoticed.

Hardly. Two shots per game here or thier is almost meaningless in such a tiny sample. The only significant one is Daniels +9 attempts. A few of those shots might be better used elsewhere, but I don't think Fin's number of shots has much to do with his dropoff in production. Fin is still getting more attempts than Steve.

I think it makes a difference when the pecking order changes according to Nelson's new favorite. It failed with Walker and then the big 3 carried us for a while only to have Daniels become a focal point.

It may be a small sample, but it's still telling.

Dirk, 77 shots
Daniels, 63 shots
Finley, 55 shots
Nash, 51 shots
Walker, 44 shots
Jamison, 42 shots
Howard, 35, shots

If you are saying that Daniels is taking too many shots, I agree with that, but Fin is still getting the same basic amount of attempts as he was in the regular season. Going by Fin's playoff shooting percentage, two extra attempts does not equal another bucket, so I don't think you can say Fin is scoring less because his attempts are down. Your pecking order theory makes more sense, but I think its the old Fin injury recovery thing again.

I just think that both teams are not "comfortable" with themselves so they are not willing to play a more "loose" game which is why scores aren't up in the 120s.

For the shot attempts and scoring, Dirk is just too good and he'll always get his points. Daniels has played well of late and is getting more and more shots because of the matchups and the fact that the Kings haven't really prepared well for this kid.

Nash, Finley, Howard, Walker all haven't shot well in the playoffs and can play much better....this is mostly the reason they haven't scored enough. They're reluctant to shoot more because they are struggling with their shot.....and Walker really hasn't played much in the 2nd half of all the games.

Honestly I don't think the Mavs are playing Mavs basketball and have only played like this for a few weeks in the regular season....this is pretty much a psuedo-small ball with varying centers kind of offense....

and if the Mavs are relying on the rookies and Walker to score....well then it's goin to be problematic.....especially when the rookies are getting pressure minutes and Walker is on the bench....

Also Jamison has suddenly become hurt with that naggin hamstring in both legs....what poor timing! He would def. be gettin more shots up and the Mavs would probably be scoring better too...

but I argue that the shot attempts aren't the problem because we're gettin pretty much any kind of shot we want on the plays we call (except in last second shots) it's just knocking them down....

...I mean if you give the Mavs 30 plus free throws in a game you're pretty much saying, "Here take this: Win"
