Default Keepping the Faith Up-High

People, listen to me, even down 3 games to 1, We still have to support "OUR TEAM" It doesn't matter if the Peja's, Webber's, Bibby's are shooting good, lest Us all pray for the Mavs to play their best game of the year at Sacramento, and then come back home to redime themselves with Us FANS.......stop crying about how many times AW failed, about Dirk missing shots, or Nash failing in crunch time, let US all send positive energy to our guys, for they can win this important game on the road...let Us all pray for Jamison back (to heel quickly) for Eddies knees ( the same thing) for Nellie to used Fortson, Bradley the way he is supposed to used them, let Us PRAY to GOD so he can get into Nellie's head and coah them into the Championship..............

People make an echo of my voice. here , there and everywhere..............

We CAN WIN........WE CAN WIN......WE CAN WIN.......................

Amen Chelette. 3 games may seem like a lot, but it's only 3 games. 3 measly games... we strung together 9 wins in a row during the regular season, 3 wins here won't be hard to come by as long as we have confidence... confidence is everything.

Dirk will not let us down. He saves his best games for elimination games. The only question will be if his teammates will play well enough to help him out.

Well, it's a lot more fun than walking around all doom and gloom! Come on Murph, don't be so mean. I mean "mavstalk"? How cold!

Chelette, what's the origin of your screen name?

Is anyone else superstitous about speaking "doom and gloom" in reference to our team? Maybe we should hold off on it until after the fat lady sings?

I'll be the first to say "Amen Brotha" to Chelette.......

If you want proof of an amazing "against the odds" 3-1 comeback, just watch "Inside the NBA on TNT." On their set, they give you living proof that it can happen. On one side sits Charles Barkely, a member of the 1993 Western Conference Champion Suns. On the other sits Kenny Smith, a member of the Houston Rockets. In 1994, with the Suns defending their WC crown, Barkley's Suns overcame two 20 point second half deficits to put the Suns convinceingly ahead 3-1 over "Jet's" Rockets, who were the higher seed. Smith's Rockets, despite those crushing loses, miraculously came back to win the series in 7 games. Even worse, it happend to Barkely's Suns again the following year against the same team.

Today, when a team goes down 3-1 in a series, EJ, Smith, and Barkley always seem to remind us of that series as to say, "it aint over till its over." Since then the Pistons have done it to the Pacers and the Blazers almost did it to the Mavs last year, despite being the heavy underdog in that series.

In the Mavs case, this team lost games they could have easily won. If you look back, the Mavs are really a Finley jump-shot and a Nash floater away from having a 3-1 series lead. (Something Doug Collins brought up in Game 4) So we know the Mavs can compete and beat the Kings. With that in mind, who's to say that this team cant comeback and beat the Kings in this series. As long as this team can compete against the Kings, in my mind, they can beat them too.........

Its time to see who the true Maverick fans are here, your team's back is against the wall. Are you going to abandon them OR are you going to continue to beileve.......

Thanks NYCdog. Your post has me encouraged. Many 'real' Mavs fans are pretty despondent people when it comes to supporting their team though, so you might find us at least outwardly claiming we've lost all hope. You have to understand, many of us have lived and died many deaths with the mavs over the years - remember the ninties. On second thought, forget the ninties. Putting my hopes in Randy White still puts a bad taste in my mouth to this day.

Murph cracks me up.

Keeping the faith up high.

Mavs' season, makeup in jeopardy:
A first-round loss to Kings may break up Nellie, Big Three

09:37 PM CDT on Tuesday, April 27, 2004

By EDDIE SEFKO / The Dallas Morning News

Don Nelson called it a day of mourning and, yes, the Mavericks clearly had gone from believing to bereaving.

Precisely what it was that kicked the bucket was left to the imagination. Most likely, Nelson was talking about the Mavericks' playoff hopes that all but flat-lined Monday night at American Airlines Center when the Sacramento Kings went up 3-1 in the best-of-7 first-round series. But it could have been the six-year collaboration of the Big Three that Nelson was alluding to. Or perhaps Nelson's seven-year tenure as coach of the Mavericks. At times like this, everything is open to speculation.

"You can't worry about any of that," Nelson said Tuesday in the downcast aftermath of the Kings' 94-92 win. "Nobody knows the future. All that talk doesn't really matter." Nelson worries less about his future these days, regardless of what happens in the playoffs. His contract calls for two more seasons as coach. But if the Mavericks lose in the first round, changes will be inevitable, and they may include a coaching change. This is a fact of life that was reiterated at what could be the last practice session at AAC this season.

"You can't worry about things you can't control," said Michael Finley, who with eight seasons is the player with the longest tenure among the Mavericks. "We won 60 games last year and we still made changes."

Changes that are one defeat away from rendering the Mavericks as first-round fodder a season after they reached the Western Conference finals. Reverse is not a gear that goes over well with any sporting organization, but the Mavericks could be faced with that reality by Thursday in Game 5 at Arco Arena.

Tuesday's mood was glum. Dirk Nowitzki slumped in a chair and talked about how dire the situation is. The spring in their steps that was so obvious on Sunday had turned into tired souls on Tuesday. "It hurts," said Antawn Jamison. "It was like a funeral in the locker room it was so quiet." For now, it is Nelson's job to try to prop his team back up as best he can. It won't be easy. Only seven teams in NBA history have come back from a 3-1 hole to win a playoff series.

"It's not a pleasant place to be," Nelson said. "All we care about at this point is getting one win and getting it back to our place. "It sounds insurmountable when you talk about [winning] all three. It's not so bad if you talk about [winning] one. We just need to seize the moment and win one game."

That's been a problem all season on the road. It was a problem Monday when the Mavericks couldn't hit a shot. And that's why they must win three in a row to avoid a first-round ouster for the first time since 1990, when Portland beat them, 3-0.

"We haven't played up to our capabilities, so we have to believe we can come back and win this series," Jamison said.

The belief is waning, although Nelson mentioned that the Mavericks are not far from being ahead 3-1 in the series. And after the 83-79 near-miss in Game 2 at Arco, there is no doubt in the Mavericks' collective mind that they can break through there.

"We know we're capable of winning in that building," Finley said. "We were up 3-0 last year against Portland, and then it went to 3-3. We were down 3-1 to San Antonio last year and won a big game down there without Dirk. You never know what can happen if you win one game."

Right now, that's the only hope to which the Mavericks can cling.

Nellie can not show any lack of confidence in his team....he's got to remind them that they were up in game 2 and were up in game 4 and blew the crap out of the Kings in game 3....

The coaching staff needs to tell these guys they are the ones who are suppose to be up 3-1 and they can beat the Kings.....

That's one thing that ticks me off with Nellie...he has no respect for his players and knocks them down way too much.....

Whichever CCR lyrics is more applicable to this team... well.. you decide.

I see the bad moon arising.
I see trouble on the way.
I see earthquakes and lightnin’.
I see bad times today.

Don’t go around tonight,
Well, it’s bound to take your life,
There’s a bad moon on the rise.

I hear hurricanes ablowing.
I know the end is coming soon.
I fear rivers over flowing.
I hear the voice of rage and ruin.

Don’t go around tonight,
Well, it’s bound to take your life,
There’s a bad moon on the rise.
All right!

Hope you got your things together.
Hope you are quite prepared to die.
Looks like we’re in for nasty weather.
One eye is taken for an eye.

Don’t go around tonight,
Well, it’s bound to take your life,
There’s a bad moon on the rise.

Don’t go around tonight,
Well, it’s bound to take your life,
There’s a bad moon on the rise.

Long as I remember the rain been comin’ down.
Clouds of myst’ry pourin’ confusion on the ground.
Good men through the ages, tryin’ to find the sun;
And I wonder, still I wonder, who’ll stop the rain.

I went down virginia, seekin’ shelter from the storm.
Caught up in the fable, I watched the tower grow.
Five year plans and new deals, wrapped in golden chains.
And I wonder, still I wonder who’ll stop the rain.

Heard the singers playin’, how we cheered for more.
The crowd had rushed together, tryin’ to keep warm.
Still the rain kept pourin’, fallin’ on my ears.
And I wonder, still I wonder who’ll stop the rain.

While on the subject of putting my hopes into something. I'm starting to be convinced that the way to become a great clutch player is to just really believe you were born to play that role (of course having some talent helps as well). I didn't believe Kobe could be that kind of clutch player, but he somehow made himself into one seemingly by just believing in himself. Maybe I'm wrong, but maybe that is all dirk needs to do. Just to believe. Believe that he was born to be that guy in the clutch that WILL be unstoppable when it counts. Almost any american kid can relate to the dream of hitting the buzzer beating shot or hitting the grand slam in the bottom of the ninth that puts your team up by one - that is what american kids grow up doing. I know I will be thrashed for this mavtalk like post <what better thread to post in eh> but maybe, just maybe, dirk just needs to start dreaming. Of course I am aware that dirk does play relatively well in clutch situations, but I don't think he has necessarily become THE MAN yet. You always knew it would be tough to close out a game or come back on the Bulls in the fourth when Jordan was anchoring those teams. Believe it or not, I think Dirk has a chance to become that kind of player. I think he wants it too judging by his passion and work ethic, but maybe the countless hours in the gym will only get him so far. And maybe dirk is just a couple of day dreams away from being the unconscious player that Nellie can not refuse to go to again and again down the stretch of games.
I can dream can't I?

For now, it is Nelson's job to try to prop his team back up as best he can.
This is the best he can:

"It's not a pleasant place to be," Nelson said. "All we care about at this point is getting one win and getting it back to our place. "It sounds insurmountable when you talk about [winning] all three...
And yet he says it's a day of mourning. How couldn't it be?

I haven't cruised the board in a couple days, because I've been in a state of Mavs catatonia, but let me just say one thing:

The farmer who feeds the chicken every morning is the same one who one day cuts his head off.

Lesson: beware thinking that just because something has happened the same way a bunch of times in a row, it will happen that way again. Get bent, Doc Bio. Mavs with three in a row!!!

I'm all for hope, but when the coach and the team don't seem to believe its possible, why should the fans? All this stuff I read about doom and gloom in the locker room after game 4 literally makes me sick. I keep picturing these grown men hanging their heads and moping around. Give me a break! They should be extremely mad at themselves for the opportunities they let pass by! I'd much rather read about people throwing crap around the locker room and getting in each others' faces than to read about how the locker room mood was like that of a "funeral". That doesn't give me much hope. When players get mad, they tend to fight. When players hang their heads, they tend to shrivel up and die.

Dirk is the only one that is moping now.....and to some extent Nash who admits about not being focused on the game.

It's really an extension of the coaching staff's weakness as leaders and motivators....it's all leaking down to the players and it's not a good sign.

On a lighter note :

I wonder if Antoine realizes he's history as a Mav this offseason?

I would expect the team to be down directly after their last game.

The Mavs have fought hard the entire series. I don't expect them to roll over and die next game..even if they didn't throw things around the locker room after game 4.

Maybe this is the way GOD wanted this series to be, so HE can show Us his greatness.........

About my nickname, it came from France, my mother (RIP) used to called me like that since I was a little kid.............and before GOD We all are... AMEN

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MMMMMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAVS

Sorry, got carried out a little....
This has got to be the most entertaining post I have read in weeks! *ROFL* You're nuts for the Mavs - gotta love it. I bet you're wall to wall when the game is on.

But, I don't think we can blame G-D for how the boys have performed this off-season. "His greatness is reflected" in the physical capacity this team has for winning. If they don't find a way to focus those abilities, we're screwed.

What does "Chelette" mean, or where did your mom (RIP) get it from?? I know it's French - it's very similar to my last name. So I'm really curious. How do you pronounce it?
