EDIT: wait, is it against the law to be retarded?

Uhhh...
Steve Novak wouldn't be bad that guy can shoot it...he can't defend but he can shoot it.

Cuban on the Mavs chances vs the Lakers:

"Hell yes. That's it. Hell yes. We've got the size now. We've got the depth. We've got a lot more depth than the Lakers. It's not even close there...

"I'm excited about it. We're going to continue our streak [nine straight 50 win seasons]. We're going to have a great team. I think we have the depth, experience and are younger and more athletic to kind of fill some holes we had last year. We are going to be better... This is a really, really special opportunity for us. We're going to have the deepest team in the NBA by far. I think our second unit, J.J. (Barea), Jet (Rodigue Beaubois) and probably Shawn Marion or Caron Butler switching back and forth with the second unit with rookie Dominique Jones playing the three, Tyson Chandler playing the four and Brendan (Haywood) or Ian (Mahini) playing the five. Our second unit could beat a lot of first units. We're going to have so much depth that it's really going to give us an advantage this year. All our guys are coming in with one focus only and that's to win a championship. That's the goal. "

Really Lebron? You can't spell Dirk's name correctly?

Actually, Dirk had the second highest PPS on post possessions last year.

And no WNBA player is "good" or "tough" in the post.

DB.com says they're interested in Diogu. Not bad for a 5-8 minute guy. He at least has decent inside scoring skills.

Diogu can really put the ball in the hoop. He has a ton of potential. I think he has a low bball IQ, he's a bit of a blackhole, and not a very good defender. Still, definitely like him as a back end guy...way better than The Janitor.

From nba.com:

Inside Report: DoJo in transition

By Earl K. Sneed, Mavs.com
Inside Report: DoJo in transition

Earl K. Sneed writes that while Mavericks rookie guard Dominique Jones is great at scoring in transition, making the transition from being a college star to becoming a pro is something that required an assist from the NBA and the Player's Association.

Dallas Mavericks rookie guard Dominique Jones is great in transition, on the court.

But now the former standout at South Florida has to transition from being a college star to becoming a first-year professional in the NBA. To help with his transition from the collegiate level to the pro ranks, Jones headed to New York last month to go through the league's Rookie Transition Program, designed to help young professionals succeed on and off the court.

"Just getting out, seeing how things are in the NBA and then back to Dallas to get better," Jones said.

"Nothing is more important than this period of time with the rookies, it's invaluable," NBA deputy commissioner and COO Adam Silver told NBA TV. "But I'll say this is just the beginning of the process. I mean, this is something that goes on through a player's career. We keep enforcing the same messages over and over."

Jones says while certain portions of the program would have normally lolled him to sleep, the comfort of knowing that the NBA is there to help him make the right decisions -- both in the game of basketball and in his personal life -- is what allowed him to take away the necessary skills needed to be a success story.

"They have certain points, you know, that kinda get you in the boring mode or about to fall asleep when they have certain people speaking. But for the most part, they had a lot of NBA guys come back...talk to us about how (their) experience was. So I think the Player's Association did a good job of trying to make it interesting for us."

While in the Big Apple, Jones was equipped with both basketball and financial knowledge that will help him be one of the top players in the league while also thriving away from the hardwood.

Jones also had a chance to connect with first-year studs from other teams, but the first-rounder made sure not to make too many friends. Instead, the 6-foot-5 combo guard chose to size up his competition for rookie of the year honors.

"I think everything is business," Jones explained. "The only friends I want to have is the players on the Mavs. I might have a couple of them that I knew through college or from high school But, you know, I feel like that I'm representing the Mavericks.

"So, when I see this person or this person, if we're in a certain environment, we might clown around. I don't go taking their numbers like, 'Hey, we should be cool,' because that's not where my mind is at right now."

With an all-business approach, Jones returned to Dallas to get prepared for the Mavericks' training camp which tips off on Sept. 28. But he didn't come back alone.

Jones came back to Big D with the NBA's logo tattooed on his left calf, a daily reminder of the hard work that he has put in to get to this point and motivation to help push him to become not just another player but a perennial All-Star.

"I feel like I'm a CEO of my own corporation...I work for the NBA, so I got the NBA on my leg. It's just something about me, I'm happy about the things that I'm doing. People say it was a gutsy move, but I just look at it as reality. I'm gonna be in the NBA until I choose not to," Jones said.

Now Jones' transition to NBA stardom begins.

Just one more week til training camp. I'm assuming Monday is media day. Lookin' forward to seeing Butler's new body (yeah yeah, that's what she said). I found these stats that Sefko wrote pretty interesting....

Did you know? The Mavericks were a remarkable 18-3 when Butler scored in double figures and 2-4 when he didn’t.

Ouch

YEAH YEAH, you and your Caron hate. You know what would really suck? If Caron had like a great regular season, then Lebron us by not trying in the playoffs and Lebron us in FA by going to the Heat....that would suck.

I've seen some snaps from his twitter account and the man got slim over the summer.

Novak to join Mavs' cam

Steve Novak, a 6-10 forward who has been in the NBA the last four seasons, will be joining the Mavericks as a training camp invitee.

Novak was the 32nd overall pick in the 2006 draft by Houston. He played two seasons with the Rockets and has been with the Los Angeles Clippers the last two seasons. The former Marquette standout averaged 6.9 points in 2008-09, when he knocked in 41 percent of his 3-point shots.

The 27-year-old played just 54 games for the Clippers last season.

The Mavericks are looking for a backup to Dirk Nowitzki who plays a similar style, which Novak does.

--Eddie Sefko

The Mavericks are looking for a backup to Dirk Nowitzki who plays a similar style, which Novak does.

for 5-10 minutes, not too bad, no guarantee contract. I'm sure there will be a few other names. This is one of the nicer things about not guaranteeing a deal, you can go in to camp, see who performs the best and give them the roster spot. If another team makes a cut we like, we can bring them in.

Cuban Unplugged: Roddy B's Out Of The Boot, Marion Should Come Off Bench, Jet And Butler Are Lean And Mean
Mavs Afternoon Drive: Dallas Owner Chats It Up With Fact-Based Opinions
By Mike Fisher -- DB.com

Mark Cuban is breaking news from Mavericks HQ, the Dallas owner detailing ... the news that Roddy B is out of the boot ... the news that the owner thinks Shawn Marion should come off the bench ... and the news that Jason Terry and Caron Butler have spent the summer remaking their bodies ... It's Mavs Afternoon Drive, and we've got the scoop ...
In a DMNews chat on Thursday, Cuban unveils an assortment of facts and fact-based opinions. The most notable:

ITEM 1: Cuban says Roddy B is out of the boot. … and ready to start.
Cuban: “Roddy just got out of his walking boot today! He will start non-jumping shooting on the court next week. So when he gets ready, you will see a ton of Roddy. Once he gets back in the groove, I think he will start, but that’s up to coach (Rick Carlisle). … We have Roddy watching game film with the coaches daily. We are not letting him relax at all. Our policy with every player and with any injury is that we want to overwhelm him with so much rehab and mental work that it’s more relaxing to get back on the court and play.’’
ITEM 2: Cuban says he thinks Shawn Marion should come off the bench.
Cuban: “I’m hoping coach plays Trix in the second unit a lot so we can get him the ball in the post and get him unique matchups on the move. Trix is great without the ball. Put him against other teams’ second units and he will be able to score a lot more. … The great thing about Trix is that he will do whatever it takes to win. You don’t see a lot of All-Star-quality players doing that. I love Trix. Great guy. Great heart. Loves to defend and is probably the most underrated defender in the NBA. He can do so much, and if it means coming off the bench no question he will.’’
ITEM 3: Cuban says Jason Terry is “lean and mean.’’
Cuban: “No one was more upset about the playoffs than Jet. The good news is that Jet has used it for motivation. The size of the runway is going to have to grow because Jet has put on a bunch of muscle and got leaner. He knows that as he gets older he has to work harder and he definitely did. He is lean, mean and focused.’’
ITEM 4: Cuban says Caron Butler is the No. 2 scorer.
Cuban: “I would say that Caron will be our second option. And can he be an All-Star again. ABSOLUTELY. Wait to you see what he looks like. We are going to have to redo our "on a horse" video in the arena. CB is CUT UP. He completely redid his body. He is ready.’’

I'm not saying it really matters.. I'm just saying it's insulting. To compare, Aaron Brooks and Darren Collison are both 80s. I mean.. gimme a break.

And for me Marion makes much more sense starting against the opponent star SG/SF. And playing with Kidd on the floor for the easy buckets. But again, that screw up with Butler moving to SG for several time.

Too bad remaking the body doesnt include growing 2-4 inch and learning defense so it will be the same. Maybe he will score back a little bit more efficient but he will always screw up our backcourt defense...

Im looking 10times more forward to Roddy and DoJo than Terry since they could contribute on both ends of the court.

I don't remember but is it really much lower than last year's ranking? It seems like his average is always pulled down by a few categories like speed or defensive awareness but you can still score at will with him.

Re Cuban on Marion: Unless caron just looks that much better than last year's version and you are intent on starting Roddy, I don't get why you wouldn't start your best defender just so he can get a couple of extra points.

That's the ice breaker for me. Also the fact that all 2k games blow anyway.

Cuban wants Caron to be the #2 guy, and that guy won't be coming off of the bench. The main body of scoring is Dirk/Caron/Roddy/Terry. I get Marion's defense and very much like him as a player, but the team really needs Butler to step it up scoring-wise.

I wonder if Jones' reputation as a ball handler could land him the backup PG slot and allow Roddy to focus on SG?

Kidd/DoJo
Roddy/Terry
Butler/Marion
Dirk/Marion
Haywood/Chandler

Through some work and determination, I'll be attending Mavs Media Day on monday. If you have any suggestions for good questions, please feel free to PM me.
