The Mavs have 18 players under contract, including backup center Ryan Hollins, who received a qualifying offer, and reserve guard Greg Buckner, who has a $1 million buyout. Even if Dallas lets Hollins walk and buys out Buckner, it will still have 16 players.
Does this mean that Hollins accepted the QO? I mean, an offer isn't even close to being the same as being under contract..

For now I'm just going to own that up to someone coincidentally not having their facts straight, but I'd still like to hear that they plan to get him in the mix next season (if they aren't trading as many pieces as possible for a legit 5).

Dont know if it has been posted yet but Rashad McCants to Dallas?

From his twiter
Quote:
Yes I play.updated rosters put me as a free agent but I'm hoping to sign with dallas soon. That's where I would like to play
http://twitter.com/Rashadsoze7/status/2916178559

Barea
Terry
McCants
Thomas
Gooden

Looks like a solid bench imo.

The Mavs offered him the 1mio QO, looks like its up to him to accept it or go somewhere else. Since he is looking for more PT i dont see him staying.

McCants Twitter:
Tweet #1: "you gotta play me at point.. Gotta take good shots too... Trade me to dallas tho.. If ur not good then neither am I.."

Tweet #2: "Yes I play. updated rosters put me as a free agent but I'm hoping to sign with dallas soon. That's where I would like to play"

God damnit, the guy is literally standing at Dallas Airport with his bags and we dont pick him up

Yes we are stacked with guards but again:
2007–08 Minnesota 75 24 26.9 .453 .407 .748 2.7 2.2 .9 .2 14.9

I thought we wanted to add 3s to our roster and that we just do with damn Tim Thomas McCants is Matt Carroll that can slash AND play decent d.

Trade Williams/Buck/Humphries for Camby and send 3mio Cash with to cover Humphries player option next year. Clippers still save money with the buckshot. Then add McCants with the BAE and we are set:

Kidd/Barea/Boobie
Terry/McCants/Ross
Marion/Howard/Carroll
Dirk/Gooden/Thomas
Damp/Camby/(Nivins/Jawai)

FAR AHEAD best and most versatile bench of the league.

December trade options: Damp/Gooden/Camby

I'd like McCants here, but would he really get that much playing time? We're stacked at the 2. With Howard/JET/Ross. I assume it would be Howard/JET/McCants. I just don't see him getting that many minutes.

Some more thoughts:

If we really offer Hollins the QO and all that Gooden as center talks, that should mean there is no Camby for the Buckshot available and the FO knows it...

@Folter: Buck can be bought out, Clippers save money even with Camby being an expiring.

Why couldn't he play some time at the Point?

I had thought of that too. If we get him for the point, and if there's proof that he can play the point (I don't watch Sac or the TWolves, sue me lol) then that would be great. Undoubtedly though, JJB would lose his spot and minutes. Possibly package him in a Buckshot tradet to sweeten the deal?

McCants knows we are stacked and looks like he still wants to come badly to here. And the BAE is an awesome price for his proven (!) level of talent. The guy had always great per36min stats:

http://www.basketball-reference.com/...mccanra01.html

In the west its all about quality. If Josh or Terry goes down again that leaves us right now with Ross/Barea/Carroll behind the remaining healthy Josh/Terry. One guy is pure specialist, one guy get raped in the d and the other is Carroll

Would love McCants.

I think with McCants we are contenders (yeah I know that sounds crazy). We would just be so deep. Also, we would have big time flexibility both on the court and off. The guy is desperate to come here. Sign him to a one year BAE deal with a second year team option!

With McCants and then if we somehow someway use expirings for a starting center... we are much more than contenders...

Adding McCants can only get you that better. I mean that makes it easier to move Jet or Howard+salaries for a dynamic piece. It creates a lot of options, same thing with bringing Hollins back, it gives you more depth.

If we get McCants AND a Starting center, its title or bust for me. It doesn't look like a starting C is coming tho, with all this Gooden talk from Donnie.
Hopefully this Gooden contract turns out to be a little less, and we sign McCants for the remainder of the MLE.

....wow, maybe that's the hold up on anything official on the Gooden deal. McCants is going to get the remainder of the MLE.

Ya I can't believe Goodens contract is official yet. Somethings gotta be holding it up.

Anyway put me on the McCants bandwagon, if Kidd, JJB, J-Ho, or Marion get injured we'll need him. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MaPanT7ZGBo

Get McCants. There's nothing wrong with having quality depth, that's what he would undoubtedly bring.

And another thing, he wants to come here. He wants to play in Dallas, so, bring him here. Why not?

BTW.. McCants "twittered" Drew Gooden:

"@DrewGooden whats goodie fam.... put in a good word.. haha remember our talk"

Ha!

Reason #1 why Wade is always injured. He's as dramatic as Christiano Ronaldo when it comes to diving.

He worked out for us a few weeks back. Since then, nothing from the Mavs' side, but the dude clearly wants to play here (he's also saying similar things about Charlotte on his Twitter, frankly, it seems like he's just begging for a contract offer at this point).

If we can't get anything done with the Buck Shot + filler, does that mean the Mavs buyout Buck and Jawai to be able to sign McCants to put him on the roster? If we sign McCants, we would need to send Nivins to Europe. We would also have to let Singleton go.

Roster:
Kidd/Barea/Beaubois
Howard/Terry/McCants
Marion/Ross
Dirk/Thomas
Damp/Gooden/

Carroll/Williams/Humphries/(Nivins and Foster to Europe)/(Jawai and Buckner bought out)

Yea, I would guess Jawai and Buckner won't be on the team, Nivins and Foster in Europe. I don't think Williams is even going to be around either. Carroll and Humphries should round out the bench, though would not mind seeing Hollins back in uniform for us.

I've been on the McCants bandwagon for a while now, and I'm sure as hell still on it. He brings everything that the Mavs could need.. Young energy, efficient 3pt scoring, ability to drive to the paint, defense (albeit not the best). He could be a huge piece for now as well as for the future.

Again, I'm game for replacing Terry with McCants.. Especially while Terry's value is the highest that it will probably ever be (sans deadline before his contract is up).

Personally I think McCants is a spare. His shooting is too up and down for a short SG and he is a terrible PG.

He's 2 inches taller than Jet, and can actually do some sort of defending on the other side of the court.. Combine that with his higher 3pt fg% and him being quite a bit younger then I'd say that I'd definitely take him on if the plan were to replace Terry with him and trade Terry for a 5 (or any other rotation player, really).

Higher 3pt %? Career wise Terry is .383 and McCants is .368.

Even if you look year by year he has never had a higher % than Terry. He was .319 in Minnesota last year.

Yeah, it was a recent interview with McCants. When talking about it, he didn't seem too thrilled about Dallas. But who knows, maybe he just sucks at showing emotion.

For what it's worth, Tim MacMahon doesn't think McCants is in the Mavs' "immediate plans": http://mavsblog.dallasnews.com/

Oh, and Drew Gooden is finally signed, but terms are still not disclosed.

Stuff like this makes me wonder who knows more the sports writer or the player?
