Default The Godfather

I'm just curious.. I was reading some stuff on RottenTomatoes.com concerning the winners of the Best Picture Oscars.. It has The Godfather listed as the second best Best Picture of all time. Am I the only one that can't make it through the entire movie? It's odd because it has an actor or two in it that I really enjoy usually. I've tried to watch the movie numerous times but I can't make it through half an hour..

Anyone else think the movie is ..not that great?

The first one was spectacular, and certainly deserves a top spot. What movie(s) would you put above it? Please don't name any Michael Bay movie. Also it looks liek Godfather is #7 on Rottentomatoes list. Toystory 2 is #2. I think its safe to say that these rankings are pretty much meaningless.

edit: in fact, the top 100 movies are all maximum rating of 100%, its just the number of votes push the movie higher on the list. Maybe you meant the IMDB ratings?

I found part 2 and part 3 a little hard to get through. The original was spectacular. Pacino is utterly magical. At the beginning, he's the only character the audience can identify with. And without ever losing any sympathy for him, by the end he's exactly whom you didn't think you could identify with.

One of the best movies I've ever seen, without a doubt, and the single best acting job I've ever seen.

You're crazy. Great movie. Part two is a smidge slow but still great. Part three was awful. (Sophia Copola barf)

It's a masterpiece, but I wouldn't put it in my top 5 movies just because I wasn't alive to experience in the theater. In fact, I didn't see the movie until I was in my mid 20's. I appreciate everything about the movie though. I watch it every time it's on AMC.

There's a vhs version of The Godfather that is now absolutely impossible to get a hold of. It takes Part I and Part II and shows it in chronological order. My Dad always talks about it. He says it was shown on TV back in the 80's. I have searched and searched but haven't been able to find one.

I actually like Part 3 (aside from Coppola's nepotism).

Let's see...just one place I puked in my mouth... "now they will fear you"

Horrendous writing and horrendous delivery. Al Pacino became just "Al" in this movie. You can't be serious.

My wife couldn't finish it when we tried to watch it both for the first time. I too wasn't impressed - very, very boring movie. Has nothing on the Transformers series...

In my experience, The Godfather is far more important to filmmakers than it is to audiences... It's those giant's shoulders that many of the greats since have been built on.

Good movie, not in my top-50.

Sorry, but you're way off base. Despite its failure to live up to the success of the first two, it is actually a very well received movie on the whole (68% Fresh on RT, 7.6 fan rating on IMDb, 7 Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Cinematography).

Look, Sofia Coppola was flat out unbearable and she really sours the movie. Outside of that, it's a very interesting plot, Andy Garcia is fantastic (Oscar Nom), and the ending sequence is very poignant.

Like I said, you might not like it, but really, going by the facts, I should be the one asking if you're serious.

No, Rottentomatoes has a ranking of the top best picture winners. As for the 100% Ranking of Toy Story 2, all that means is that all of the critics thought it was a good movie. It doesn't mean that any of them thought it was great.. They all might think it's a 7 out of 10... The 100% is just the percentage of critics that like the movie.

It's also good to see that there's several others out there that don't really like the Godfather all that much.

What movies would I put above it? Almost every movie I've ever seen. Like I said, I can't even finish it. I've finished almost every Rob Schneider movie that I've been unfortunate to come across...
