Despite the fact that we already have 3 point guards (after sending Mekel to the Dleague), I don't think it would hurt to add another one. Would love to get him back.

UPDATE: just noticed it was already posted here. My bad.

Send Mekel to the Legends and lets make it happen!
Doesn't work that way... if Mekel has a Mavericks contract, he counts as one of the 15 players on the roster even if we send him to the Legends.

See above... and honestly, JJ is a shooting guard in a small point guard's body. Never a guy we want running our offense.

Personally, as much as I loved JJ's competitiveness as a part of our championship team, I don't really think he fills any needs on this team. I would rather keep Mekel, who fits what we need to accomplish defensively.

Yeah, I love JJ but we already have a bunch of undersized guards at this point. I just don't see how he fits in with this current team.

If/when JJB gets released he's instantly going to become the best available free agent by a wide margin, and is unquestionably better than at least one guy on the current Mavs roster who plays the same position he does. I can think of no reason why the Mavs shouldn't sign him if he's available and willing.

Mekel has talent to run the team and is improving. I like Mekel over Felton. Harris and Monta can also run point so Felton is a luxury. Felton cost too much for his role on the team.

If the Mavs sign J.J. I wonder who they will trade/waive. Also they're still interested in potentially re-signing Rashard Lewis. I say before things are all done and said we'll be saying goodbye to Ricky Ledo and... one of the two point guards named Gal Mekel or Raymond Felton.

What shall the depth chart look like also? That is a potentially crazy deep team. 5 different guys could definitely run the point. Among those guys, Monta Ellis, Devin Harris, and J.J. Barea can play the 2 spot. Then the team is crazy deep at SF as well with Chandler Parsons, Rashard Lewis, Al-Farouq Aminu, Jae Crowder, and Richard Jefferson all being able to play minutes at that position. Same story at PF.

Who would ride the IR? Tough call when the roster is all healthy. I think they'd just be smart to evaluate their opponents and take turns resting guys all season long.

Opposing centers will be highly annoyed. I predict several Andrew Bynum blowups.

If they sign an even smaller guard (jjb) then I expect they will have even more need of ledo. They only guard over 6'3" will be Jefferson.

I assume we'll use the starting lineup we established in the pre-season

Chandler
Dirk
Parsons
Ellis
Nelson

Subs are up in the air, but that is a solid and consistent starting lineup. Aminu has been successful on Duncan in the past, so I assume we'll see a lot of him if Duncan goes off. Crowder has been good on Leonard as well. Harris should see about 20 mpg chasing around Parker.

Someone please take the time to make a comparison between this year's team and the championship team. Where does this team excel? What is this team lacking that the championship team had? 3 seasons have passed on by since the Mavericks won the Larry O'Brien trophy. Dirk has obviously gotten older, but his supporting cast is potentially the best he's ever had thanks to his selflessness.

Looks like Carlisle views Al-Farouq the same way that I do - he's a glue guy who can do a little bit of everything. He can rebound, he's active, athletic, is a decent shooter, and he can guard 4 different positions on the floor... Sound familiar? (except he's 12 years younger than Matrix!)
