General Election GDT 11/04/2008
Election day coverage...random thoughts...farewells to capitalism...place it all here.
And please, everyone:
------------------------------
No profanity
No racism, or reaching really hard to pretend anyone might have been hinting at racism
No personal attacks
Be GRACIOUS, and don't gloat. <--- those ones are a request.
Listen guys, we all think we know what's going to happen today, but whether or not Obama wins by 20 electoral votes or 200, remember that the Dallas Mavericks will hopefully still have a team after this guy is done, and hopefully we can all remain friends as well. So let's be courteous (I'm talking to myself now) and let's be nice, and let's hope that everyone in this great nation of ours make their voice heard at the polls.
God Bless America, and Go Mavericks.

Good thing you didn't start it the day before the game day.

Why should we not gloat? When Bush won in 2004, those who supported him gloated. Those on the left have waited far the hell too long for a real liberal in office. We're sure as hell gonna celebrate.
EDIT: This is not to say I am going to gloat. I won't even be at my computer when the race ends with Indiana going blue at 6:00 EST.
Okay, first results in!
Obama 15, McCain 6 in Dixville Notch, New Hampshire.
In 2004 Bush beat Kerry 19-7

Ha, I saw that last night
BTW, I agree with both of you guys..OF COURSE there's no need for political differences to keep ups from collectively suffering as Mavs fans!
That being said, hopefully there will be reason to celebrate later on (and maybe we'll do so in a separate thread.)

All I know is that I am voting for McCain today.
And then I'll be pushing for real change in 2012!!!
I may have to ask our liberal friends about tactics/strategies for protesting against the status quo, for protesting as an underdog minority.
What would be the liberals advice on how to manipulate America into gaining power?
Then again, I think I'll stick to living and talking the truth and pray that the liberals don't do as much damage as I anticipate coming.
Have a great day...Gloat all you want, you will get what you deserve with your vote.

Has anyone voted yet today? I've heard the lines are terrible...my office is a little sparse this morning.

Anyone who doesn't vote early might be too stupid to vote (in my superior opinion...)

A co-worker voted today....he said there were more people working the polling place than there were actually voting.

I just went and voted...took me all of 5 minutes to walk in, pick up my ballot, cast my votes and drop in the box.
I have NEVER experienced a problem on voting day.

Everyone I know that early voted waited in line for at least an hour.
This morning, I got to my precinct's voting location at 5 til 7, was 5th in line, and walked out the door after voting at 7:15. This is exactly what I did last election as well.
So....now who's stupid?

I just got finished voting myself. First time with electronics.
That is so simple -- everyone who can't do it shouldn't be allowed to vote. Touch screens, nice review, cast your vote. Simplistic.

How about victory for Freedom. Where's the news on the success we have had in Iraq? We are winning, or have won the war in Iraq and we are working through an exit plan, with a goal of having a surge in Afghanistan.
I say, Thank YOU for President Bush.
As for the crippled economy, we've gone over this too many times to count...the current situation is a result of the Carter and Clinton years, with some help from ACORN.
Heck, you could even contribute the war budget to Clinton and how he destroyed the military during his watch.
Now if Obama wins, you have Frank pushing for a 25% cut on military spending...I'm sure he and the Democrats are planting the seeds of destruction for the Republicans to have to clean up...all at a price that they can make the Republicans look bad for doing the right thing.
Yes, I voted for President Bush, twice and to this day, I remain proud of his leadership...his focus has been on what it needed to be. National Defense and continued growth of Freedom.
Yes, there were mistakes...given the sham of intelligence and how much Clinton downsized and destroyed our intelligence capabilities, President Bush and the REST OF CONGRESS acted on the intel that was provided. Once the decisions where made, we as Americancs had no choice but to perservere to victory, or risk being weakened by terrorist.
This economy and our government burden has been at the hands of supporting this war on terror. Had Clinton not been busy under the table with interns, perhaps he would have seen the impending dangers and protected America. As it turns out his oral activities have cost thousands of American lives and Billions of Dollars, yet he gets to walk away with nothing more than a stained dress.
How quickly or easily some are fooled.
Enjoy your American Flag and American Pride while you can...Just remember Hitler was a gifted speaker as well, now we can watch as Obama begins to put his brand of nationality to work.

Hey I voted for Bush twice. I love bush (rimshot). But he was front and center in the push for every American owning a home, which is currently helping cripple our economy. Let's not act like every problem right now is the other side's doing. That's just childish.
Oh, and stay on topic.

Obama won in my office by a landslide, three to one.
My Republicans buddies will appreciate the fact that the lone McCain supporter was by boss (ha!).
He has promised to move to Australia, in the event of that Obama actually wins the election. (I won't tell you why, you don't want to know).
Needless to say, I have a huge personal stake in the outcome of this election.

You know what, you're right, go right ahead with all of your asinine Hitler comparisons.
I thought we'd have a nice neutral thread, but I guess that's too much to ask.

I like to vote on election day, call me a sentimentalist.
but this year, expecting it to be very crowded on election day, I voted last week, it took about 30 minutes so many other people were also voting early.
I wonder if so many people voted early that the lines won't be so bad today?

there is no one who has as darkly tinted rose colored glasses as you. not even close.
you exonerate bush for the housing crisis when increased home ownership was one of his stated goals...remember "the ownership society"? nah, you expunged this from your memory, it reduces the tint in those glasses.
then you blame clinton for "the war budget"...uh, guess the guy who started the unnecessary war that caused the "war budget" doesn't deserve the blame, right? unbelievable.
you close by comparing obama to hitler. that is so insulting to those who lost friends and family to the murderous nazis, not to mention insulting to those who support obama out of a desire for equality and a better america....just way over the top. I'm sure that you would be aghast if anyone were to compare bush to hitler, yet you feel the license to do that very thing yourself to obama.
common sense is lacking in so many people today....

What, you don't like it when the shoe is on the other foot?
At least we can be civil in our disagreements. At least until we have to stand up because our personal boundaries are being violated.
25% cut on military spending
Proposed taxing on 401K's
Increased taxes on what appears to now be incomes over $140K per year
Raising up of 250,000 "Civilian Troops" to be equal too or greater than our military
Obama's change proposals are things that have been tried and failed both in America and in other nations throughout the world. Change is coming, but it is not the change that America needs or wants...
But hey, it is what it is...God save us from the consequences of Obama.

I want our next president to do a great job regardless if it's Obama or McCain, regardless if I believe their policies will be effective or not. The challenges ahead of us are too great to not support the next president whomever it might be.

25% cut on military spending

they propose to add 65,000 soldiers and 27,000 marines, support funding to replenish the equipment for the national guard. hardly a "25% cut".

wow, absolutely incredible you would make this ridiculous claim.. obama has proposed to eliminate the penalty for early witdrawl of people from their 401(k) for the next 2 years. obama has never proposed additional taxes on 401s.

I agree...I happen to believe our Current President has done a great job, but yet we have to put up and read about some agenda crap trying to tear him down.
I don't believe we should sit around and pretend when it comes to the liberals and their annointing of Obama.
We should keep him and his entourage in check every step of the way.
I hope beyond measure that I am WRONG about Obama. That does not mean we should sit around with a blind eye as he does whatever it is he will do.
We should do our part to hold the media accountable for the way it reports the news...they no longer do that, now it's about entertaining and propoganda.
I believe the sattire from SNL regarding the media lovefest with Obama was pretty spot on. It's way past time to hold the media and those getting elected accountable as they move forward.
Again, if I am WRONG about Obama, then nobody should be afraid of the checks and balances. If they are afraid, then what are they hiding?
The media had a lovefest with Clinton and as we can see with 9/11 we nearly lost our nation and freedom as a result...President Bush has restored a huge portion of this, but there is still work to be done.
I fear that Osama may have been corrent in his thoughts that America does not have the stomach to perservere. The Clinton's and the Media blind eye opened up a hole for our enemies to get in...President Bush has done his best to fix that hole, but now we see Obama and the Media wanting to open up this hole...
We have to diligent, we have to be the biggest pain in the arse watchdog with Obama and his liberal clan, the cost of any expectations of Obama's plan coming to reality could be far greater than this nation can stand.
I reiterate, I hope and I pray that I am WRONG on my thoughts of Obama and the Liberals...but I am not willing to wait and see, rather I am willing to watch, question and protest and see. That is what makes America GREAT!!!
If Obama is willing to change, then so am I.

I voted for it. Figured it would be fairly hypcritical to be in favor of increased taxes for stadium projects but not for something that (unfortunately) is really needed.
And after waffling for two solid weeks I voted to keep Irving dry. I'm amazed it still is, at this point.

I'm glad I didn't have to make that decision, thig. It would be hard to vote for even more tax payer money to be used to help all the illegal immigrants abuse Parkland for "emergencies." My mother is friends with a nurse who's worked there for years in various capacities and she says they find all manner of excuses and ways to get free health care for routine things...all while you pay for it.
But on the other hand I understand it's badly needed for people who're there legitimately.

It's a necessary evil as far as I'm concerned. And it's going to be there regardless, so you might as well try and improve things.

The only other thing we got to vote on in Denton County was some lousy stuff for improving roads and infrastructure. Booooring.

But on the other hand I understand it's badly needed for people who're there legitimately.

Yeah that's a tough one - even if half the apples are rotten, can you really throw away the other half? (especially when it comes to the topic of health care...)

I only voted FOR the one improving police, fire infrastructure (and yes I realize it was more than just that but that was specifically why I voted for it). The other one I voted against.
I brought my kids, as I always do. Although this was the first time for my son. I got him pumped up about going to vote and so when I was done and we were leaving he didn't want to leave because he hadn't voted yet. It was a Kodak moment.
My oldest daughter, God bless her, is convinced that Palin is going to win. She ignores me when I tell her otherwise. Because all she sees are McCain/Palin signs in the surrounding neighborhood.
