Default Clippers get Brevin Knight

Clippers get Brevin Knight
Journeyman point guard will back up Cassell.

By Jason Reid, Times Staff Writer
7:25 PM PDT, August 3, 2007

The Clippers' pursuit of a point guard ended Friday when the team agreed to terms with free agent Brevin Knight on a two-year, $4-million contract, league sources said.

The Clippers turned to the 10-year veteran after finishing second to the Houston Rockets in the quest to sign former All-Star Steve Francis and considering trades to acquire another established point guard to share the position with Sam Cassell.

Knight, 31, sidelined often throughout his career, must undergo a physical before signing the contract. He was selected by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the first round of the 1997 draft after playing for Stanford. The Clippers will be his eighth NBA team.

The 5-foot-10 guard averaged 9.1 points and 6.6 assists last season for Charlotte in 45 games. Knight's career averages are 8.3 points and 6.8 assists.

The Clippers needed help at point guard because Shaun Livingston is still recovering from major knee surgery and may not play in the 2007-08 season and Cassell, who was injured for much of last season, turns 38 in November.

Yeah, it was a good signing for the team...but with Brand out, it's just an eh trade. They have that play-maker, but they really don't have a person to give the ball to!

Poor Clippers

The Cavs, Celts and even Miami could have used Knight. Is Cassell healthy and still signed with the Clips? He has been good and clutch but i know he is getting up in age.

Ok i see Cassell is 38. He is up there. Then it looks like Livinston might not play much next season with his injury.

Yeah, too bad we couldn't have landed Brevin. I wouldn't have offered him more than the LLE though. Whatever. Jones for the LLE makes me giddy.
