Clippers F Elton Brand ruptures Achilles' tendon in workout

August 3, 2007

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (AP) -- Los Angeles Clippers forward Elton Brand ruptured his left Achilles' tendon on Friday during his daily workout.

Brand, 28, will undergo surgery but plans for the operation have not been finalized yet, the Clippers said.

Last month, Brand -- a veteran of eight NBA seasons -- withdrew from the U.S. national team because of an injury. He averaged 20.5 points and 9.3 rebounds last season, when the Clippers failed to make the playoffs.

Horrible, just horrible. He's done.

Has any player (not a center) made it back from this injury?

6-12 is what im hearin... he doesnt rely on his athleticism too much anyway so he will be just fine. Al Thornton can fill in for a while... but clippers are cursed.

Gotta agree with dude. The Elton Brand we know is dead. I can't think of one football or basketball player that has fully recovered from a torn achilles.

Not to mention that he was already an undersized PF. Ouch...

I bet you're thinking of one who you hope does, though.

Elton is 28, won't be back until he's 29-30. And when he comes back, he won't be the same--poor guy. poor team.

This is really too bad. He's a good player and a good guy--I've always liked him.

That is one less player taken in the middle stages of FBBALL draft. He has always been a rock & solid producer for me. q=(.

but i agree with Dortmund..he never really relied on athleticism too much...he could be fine!

Poor Clippers. Last year Shawn Livingston had his horrible injury. Now Brand. Sam Cassell looking like he does. It's just sad.
