Warriors to sign Austin Croshere?
Croshere might join team
Janny Hu, Chronicle Staff Writer
Thursday, August 2, 2007
While the Warriors won't be getting dream acquisition Kevin Garnett, they appear ready to make their first dent in free agency. Golden State has been in talks with forward Austin Croshere, according to a league source, and is close to signing the 10-year veteran.
The 6-foot-10 Croshere averaged 3.7 points and 3.0 rebounds in 11.9 minutes for Dallas last season after spending his first nine years in Indiana. He would give the Warriors some depth with the fate of their own free agents, Matt Barnes and Mickael Pietrus, still to be decided.
Negotiations to keep Barnes in Oakland will start over this week with Aaron Goodwin after Barnes switched agents for the second time in two months.
Barnes filed paperwork to terminate short-lived agent Dan Fegan two weeks ago, league sources said. The Bay Area-based Goodwin, who also reps top draft picks Kevin Durant and Al Horford, is expected to seek a multiyear deal from the Warriors.
Nelson update: John O'Connor, the representative for coach Don Nelson, met with Warriors team president Robert Rowell over lunch in Oakland on Tuesday to continue renegotiating Nelson's contact. Nelson is due $3.1 million in each of the next two seasons, but is seeking to have up to an additional $3 million in annual bonus money guaranteed. "Our talks have been conversational rather than adversarial, and positive in tone," O'Connor said. "However, we are a ways from being finished."

Will this be viewed as a genius move by the Warrior fan(s) of the board? Just curious.
Or will it be an "at least Golden State is doing SOMETHING" type of response.

I can't stand Croshere and the thought of him on my second favorite team is giving me headaches. I had to watch all I ever wanted to of him on the Mavs last year.

boston and cro
espn speculation that Croshere could sign with Boston:
Bucher: It's a little late in the game for finding a veteran point guard, which they desperately need, but both Austin Croshere and P.J. Brown would help fill out the front line and can contribute without needing touches -- which will be in short supply.

Personally I don't like the idea. It just gives them another mind on their roster that knows our current system (not that Cro is necessarily an expert in it).

The reason your CLOSE SARCASM tag was visible was because you forgot your OPEN SARCASM tag... Please remember to start all sarcastic comments with [sarcasm] prior to ending them with [/sarcasm]. This will properly shine the necessary lights and ring the necessary bells such that dumbasses on the board that can't interpret intent will have all the necessary hints that you were, in fact, being sarcastic.
Thank you in advance.
Sincerely,
Board dumbass unable to interpret intent

Croshere was one of my favorite non-Mav players for years before he joined the Mavs,. so obviously I'm going to be thrilled about him becoming a Warrior. I was really dissappointed that Avery didn't give the guy a chance here, but that's typical of Avery. His legacy is going to be wasting good talent.
Cro is a great locker room guy and will be a strong reserve for the Warriors. Avery never trusted Cro, despite getting pretty good contributions from him. A good coach like Nelson won't make that mistake. This signing won't grab the headlines like some of the other moves made recently, but come next spring, I think you'll see Austin Croshere playing a big part in a Warriors playoff run.

here's a bit of trivia -- Austin Croshere was the guy that Nelson was targeting in the draft the year we took Chris Anstey. Olivier St. Jean was the fallback guy. They were both picked back-to-back right before the Mavs.
Finally Nelson gets his guy!

Wasting good talent? It's always good to get an opposing team's fan's view on things.

Croshere before he signed that big deal with Indiana was a very good player. Money changes everything.

Barnes Gone? Warriors Sign Perovic, Croshere Is Next
August 3, 2007 - 12:04 pm
Contra Costa Times -
Ten-year veteran forward Austin Croshere is expected to sign a one-year deal with Golden State this morning, team sources said. And the Warriors have inked 2006 draft pick Kosta Perovic to a multiyear deal, according to Perovic's agent, Bill Duffy.
The moves mean Golden State -- which had no official comment on either signing but is expected to announce both deals today -- has 14 of its 15 roster slots filled. That includes restricted free-agent forward Mickael Pietrus, who is on the Warriors' books at the team's qualifying offer of $3.47 million, and doesn't leave much room for rookie forward Stephan Lasme, a second-round selection, unrestricted free-agent forward Matt Barnes or any other new acquisition they might be targeting.

If Golden State is getting Austin for the vet minimum, I think that's a decent signing for them.

Only purpose of this signing is to hurt our chances from creating an expiring contract that could be used to land Kobe...
... or simply to gain more inside info on the Mavs!!

Our luck against GSW would make an Andres Biedrins game-winning corner three possible.
