I was gonna do my own thread but since you posted this ill just do it here. How to fix this thing. Start Kidd/Terry/Marion/Nowitzki/Dampier. It starts our best player at every position, It fits together the best and not suprisingly it was our best 5 man unit according to 82 games.com. I dont care about "scoring off the bench" Scoring is scoring and we need more of it, especially in the first quarter. Our rotation should look like this
Pg-Kidd 36/JJ 12
Sg-JET 36/Stevenson 12
SF-Marion 24/Caron 24
PF-Dirk 40/Marion 8
C-Damp 26/Haywood 22
Id like to find some minutes for roddy but carlisle clearly wont.

I'm watching the Mavs vs Spurs from 11/18/2009 and can't see why Roddy hasn't been given the task to guard George Hill. Not only did Roddy blow by Hill for 3 quick layups and jumper from the elbow, he drew 2 quick fouls on Hill. Hill couldn't even get a shot off until there was switch between Roddy and Drew Gooden.
Man, I miss Drew Gooden. He knew how to hustle, rebound, and score down low.

I'd actually like to see Roddy start. He gets into the lane at will and can get some of their guys in early foul trouble. Could be a good way to set the tempo early.

Well, JET was the only Maverick besides Dirk playing according to his regular season level in the last three games. The 1-3 disadvantage is clearly not on him. If guys like Butler, Marion, Kidd, Haywood or Damp, five crucial members of our 8-men rotation, were as close to their regular season game as JET is to his, we would be up 3-1 instead of the Spurs.
It's just impossible to win a playoff series in this tough conference with four out of five starters constantly underperforming. It's mind-boggling how bad some of their performances have been so far. Granted the Spurs are playing at a high level right now and making it pretty tough to be good, but still. Players who consider themselves championship material need to be better than that.

Terry's just too inconsistent for my liking. I could accept him a little better in a reduced role..

His value was never higher than a year ago when he won the 6th Man Award...
Personally, I thought Cuban giving Terry a max deal was an awful move - 3 seasons would have been plenty (he still has 2 years/9mil left after this one, a contract that nobody will swallow...)

yeah, I think Butler should come out of the bench. He can, like, totally massacre the second unit of every team if he gets his head in the game...

I thought there was some option on the final year that makes it the JUST chip of 2011? (Though the value of the chip is lower and the free agent market isn't as wild.)

Actually, I'd prefer Roddy starting instead of Terry.
Kidd
Roddy
Marion
Dirk
Damp/Wood

He had a good half in game 4, but ask Suns fans how relying on Marion to finish games against the Spurs turns out.

kidd
terry
butler
dirk
marion
roddy getting a lot of reserve minutes, jjb stevenson and najera backing the rest up and ericka and brenda planted firmly on the bench the entire game

Yeah right. He couldn't massacre a womens junior college second unit. At least not in a Mavs jersey.

duncan would have a field day against that lineup. spurs would run a lay-up drill as well - more so than they already have.

roddy's got to play alongside Kidd. Marion has to finish, his ability to get into passing lanes is huge.

they're already having a field day and will have a field day no matter what. the goal is for us to have an ever bigger field day and outscore them

We aren't asking marion to score too much just to defend jefferson and ginobli both of who he has shut down, but thanks for the insight spurs troll. I too would like to see rody starting but it just won't happen

Start Roddy. There's no reason to be conservative now. On defense, Roddy guards Hill, Kidd guards Jefferson, Marion guards Ginobili... that works for me.

I thought Butler could drive the ball some but i see he can't. He just enjoys shooting. The Mavs coaching staff better wake up and see Gino & Parker going down the lane everytime down and in their sleep. What do i do? Not how many points will our star Butler score tonight. If i am not mistaken, Marion plays defense. Stevenson can't score but he can play defense. Our coaching staff must slow Parker and Gino down and make them jump shooters. Not layup men. Hill was open because of Gino and Parker.
When Pop makes the game ugly and slows it up, then Rick needs to muddy the water also and get physical with Pop. Show Pop, we can play a bang em up slow physical game also, instead of trying to make Butler our star and jump shoot as Parker and Gino run in for layups.
It's almost like Don Nelson is somewhere on our bench whispering, as the game gets tough and in a grind, slow em up game, go against the grain, don't play any defense at all but bring in more guards and forwards and jump shoot from three land. We must slow down or stop the ball. Rule number one. That is Parker and Gino because if you do not, it makes Hill a star, McDyess a star and right on down the line.
Hopefully tonight, the Mavs will be on a mission and not let up.
