Default point guards

Damon Stoudamire doesn't seem to be in Portland's plan any longer. This guy used to be a stud. He might be a midlevel guy. The mavs could use a third point guard in the event that Harris struggles.

If you get a PG from Portland for mid-level as a third PG.......make it NVE. I still think his f'em attitude would have won the series with Phoenix.

Neither one is any more than a third stringer - perhaps fourth if Quis is still around and does well working the point in summer league play. Why spend the MLE on a point guard who's not even going to see the court; especially when both guys being discussed in this thread are sub-40% shooters?

Yeah we don't need a 4th PG after Jet, DH, and Quis, but if we did, give me Nick back.

For the vet min, I would love to have him fill DAs spot on the roster. I just don't know if Nick would accept being a roster spot and not a rotation player. Love that guy though, miss him more than any ex-Mav not named Tarpley.

Dont know why people are still starry-eyed about Nick the Quick. Terry does everything he does at this point in his career better than NVE. If you want the kind of point guard play we had in 02-03 then you gotta wish for Nash back and not NVE.

NVE brought attitude-- Terry provides that
NVE was a SG that hurt our defense when he played the 2, but provided spark-- terry does that
NVE was a streaky shooter that could make some big time 3s-- terry does that
NVE liked taking the final shot of games-- Terry likes that too
NVE was not a developed point guard-- Terry as well.

NVE is the perfect backup-- he's like Bobby Jackson with less PG skill, but we already have Terry and he does all those things that the Quick does.

Just like EL said... we dont need NVE. Jet shoots a better precentage, is quicker now, better on D, and can do everything the NVE can.

If we planned on getting rid of one of our swingmen like stack or Quis to get a big man.... i would understand getting someone like Damon Staudemire he because we could just slide JET into the open minutes at SG which i dont think hurts us.

I still wouldnt want a point gaurd like Damon though, I am happy with the combo of JET and DH with a guy like Darrell Armstrong backing them up. I say we should give them a chance, JET has a year under his belt now and will be better and so will DH.

What about Jay Williams? Chicago doesn't want to resign him. He seems to be doing well now.

Is that true? Just sign him for a something like 1.5 millions! They say he's showed some real health in his workouts and he's solid point guardwith potenzial. And we didn't even have to play him that much if he isn't there yet.

Ex-Bull Williams making strides in comeback effort

K.C. Johnson

June 7, 2005

Under the supervision of local trainer Tim Grover at ATTACK Athletics, former Bulls guard Jay Williams worked out Monday with Illinois guard Dee Brown and North Carolina guard Raymond Felton and displayed impressive quickness and cutting ability, according to two eyewitnesses.

Williams is attempting to return to the NBA after suffering such severe injuries in a June 2003 motorcycle accident that doctors considering amputating his left leg.

"All the stuff we've been talking about is coming true," said Kevin Bradbury, Williams' business manager. "He can cut, run backward and his lateral movement is good. He just needs to continue strengthening his leg to get all his speed back. But he's close."

Williams is hoping to be invited to an NBA training camp this fall. Considering the Bulls bought out his contract for $3 million they weren't obligated to pay him after he violated his contract, they'd be offered a look.

But team sources have made clear there is no interest.

Bradbury said Williams spends an hour in physical therapy, an hour playing basketball and an hour lifting weights each day.

It seems that Jay-Will has been working hard to regain his strength and ability, maybe he is worth a look. If we can get him cheap to a multiyear deal, he can become a major trade asset once Devin comes into his own.
