Default suggestion to improve the mavs

first i wanna make some observations of the last weeks before i share my trade ideas with you:

- kidd isn't a starting pg anymore. i understand that many things that he do are subtle and won't show up on stat sheets but his shooting is horrible and he's turnover prone for his standards. but he still is the only player on the team that can find dirk on a consistently basis and thats essential for this team to be succesful

- we need three-point-shooters. players like carter/odom/kidd won't glue the opposing players and dirk doesn't have the same amount of space to operate

- the odom-experiment failed badly. he doesn't fit, he doesn't care and he seems like the reason why the chemistry is on a alltime low. i hope cuban isn't to proud to accept that

- roddy doesn't fit either. he's just teasing us with good games but he doesn't help the team to win games. i think he's a melo-type player, sometimes he destroys opposing defenses and his stats look good but he doesn't improve teammates like good scorers should do

in my opinion we have to find hungry veterans who can stretch the floor, won't hurt team chemistry and simply can play off of dirk. in addition they have to be on the last year of their contract, so the triple d-plan still can work out. i think nash and allen would fit perfectly.

a pnr with nash and dirk would be unstoppable. they don't need time to adjust to each other and nash would make the open shots that kidd consistently misses. and you all know about his great court vision which would allow players like mahinmi, wright and especially marion (they played together in phx) easy baskets. i read that suns only would trade nash if he would ask them. so i think they wouldn't destroy his request with a illogical demand for trade value. a trade nash for odom/dominique jones might be impossible but under these circumstances it might work.

ray allen isn't as clutch as jet but his defense is way better. his shooting combined with dirks presence would be a nightmare for opponents and his leadership would improve team chemistry. boston made it clear that they would only blow up their team if they get some talent in exchange. maybe roddy and jet for allen would make it happen. boston needs scoring and both
can score in bunches, especially with a pg like rondo.

if those trades would happen, we would have this line-up:

nash/kidd
allen/delonte
marion/carter
dirk/yi/cardinal
woody/mahinmi/wright

there would be some open spots, maybe we can sign veterans like bogans
and mike james to fill up the roster.

with nash, allen and dirk you would have three of the best freethrow shooters in nba history which is huge in close games. aside from that, our second unit really struggled without dirk and kidd. this line-up would allow them split them up between those units.

i'm sorry for my poor english but it's not my native language

Yeah the Mavs lack a true shooter like they had with Peja last season. But the truth is that there probably won't be any changes at the deadline. The only asstets are Roddy and DoJo and that's not very much. Then you have a lot of expirings and the Mavs want to keep their flexibility, so we're talking about trading expirings for other expirings and that won't work.

to make it clear, i also don't think that there are any trades in prospect. i'm just curious which possible trades could help this team.

i understand that they won't sign someone longterm because like you said they want to keep their flexibility for the offseason. and thats why i searched for veterans with expiring contract, nash and allen.

i think boston doesn't have much to lose. they won't get past miami and/or chicago. they're a great defensive unit but they just can't find consistent scoring. allen struggles to create his own shot, jet and roddy don't. they can't assume that allen will sign a new contract with them. jets contract expires after this season and they would still have a cheap talent with roddy.

phoenix won't make the playoffs, so there isn't a reason for nash to stay other than loyalty. if (and thats a big if) he decides to go for a ring, i think dallas would be very high on his list. see, i don't think he would come up with this idea but maybe cuban talks with his agent and the agent sells him this opportunity. i can't imagine that he didn't thought about playing with dirk(nash wanted dirk in phx).
and odoms contract expires after this season, just like nashs. i think odom and phx would be a better combination than odom and dallas. he could play all his minutes at pf and from phx to la its just a short flight. in addition they could try to develop dominique. maybe we could give them mahinmi or wright because they aren't high on lopez.

and don't take my thread to serious, i just like to play gm from time to time
