My Bears came tantalizingly close again tonight on the road, and the loss was marked by another questionable decision by Guy Morriss.

With the lead in the 1st OT (30-27) and Oklahoma facing 3rd and 7 on the 21 yard line, Oklahoma was called for holding, which would have pushed it back to a 3rd and 17 from the 31 if the penalty were accepted. Instead of taking the penalty, Morriss declined and let the OU kicker attempt a 40 yard FG to tie. He hit it easily, and the Bears went on to lose in the 2nd OT.

Would the kicker have hit a 45-50 yarder? I guess we'll never know.

Morriss has the team playing really hard and has definitely gotten the program back on track, but I really question some of his strategic decisions in close ballgames.

i took the bears (with points) in the office pool this week. baylor has put together a tough little team there. next year they'll start winning these close games....

Man, are you serious? I didn't see the game. I did see the highlights, and thought of you and the good doctor.

It blows my mind how poor the overall quality of gamesmanship is from head coaches, generally speaking. The going-for-two thing is probably the most obvious violator, but fourth down is a close second, and there are other situations (such as this one, obviously) that are high up the chart as well.

For colleges perhaps I can understand, but in the NFL, when you consider what they pay to even the last guy on the roster, it is unthinkable that they could make such terrible decisions. Hire someone to help, as obviously the coaches have other things to think about. Even the good coaches.

Morriss has been a bit of a double edged sword for the Bears this year. He has the team playing hard and has increased the talent level. But, he has completely blown some important calls late in games. But, the good obviously outweighs the bad.

Honestly, I don't know enough about the OU kicker to know whether or not the kick in question is a chip shot for him...... So, I can't really say much about this call.

Morris is the best thing to happen to Baylor since Grant Teaff.

As for the second guessers, if the guy misses the first OT FG every one of you proclaims his greatness. That's pretty convenient. I'll take Morriss any day and twice on Sunday period. He has done great things here and has this team on track for a bowl.

That said, I think Baylor is going to sit out the bowl season this year as I have them dropping games to Texas, Tech and Mizzou and beating Okla State which leaves them at 5-6 for the season. This is a pretty good football team though and next year they will be much better.

murph- their kicker is pretty reliable from about 50 yards in and has hit a couple in his career >50. I'm not sure that he misses from either distance. The kick he made in OT would have been good from another 10 yards (if not more) and was dead down the middle. Give the kid credit. Bottom line is that we didn't execute again when it mattered.

That's two (arguably three) games this year that could have been won but weren't.

Maybe he makes the 50 yarder, maybe he doesn't. I just think it was the wrong move strategically. I clearly like Morriss and think he's been great for the program.
