Tyson is close to breaking a return one of these days. On that one it looked like he hesitated just a second before he decided to bring it out. But a nice runback nonetheless. He built up a bunch of speech in a hurry. Actually, this kicker might be just the guy for Tyson to return one on. The kicks it so deep that Tyson can get a chance to build up speed.

Of all the weaknesses to have, why do we have to have the deep pass? So annoying.

I am loving having these great-looking young backs. JJ hasn't even done anything yet this year & TT has looked promising in limited play. And now we've got Marian Barber. What a pretty TD run.

Bledsoe is having a heck of a passing day. He's completed his last 10 passes. Barber has been running very well as well - he's got about 79 yards in the first half already. Anyone think he is going to possibly take Julius' job (or at least force Parcells to with a running back by committee approach)?

I get the two backs confused. I could've sworn that Thompson also looked like a stud a couple of weeks ago. Amazing we can find all of these great backs now while we have a starter in Julius but the best we could do after Emmitt left and went to the Cardinals was Troy Hambrick. Its gotta piss the Cardinals off to see how our backups are doing and how their starter is doing.

You have to feel good about our offensive options these days. We have a QB that is way better than anyone thought, a very solid receiving core that can do a lot of different things & now, suddenly we have 3 really promising young backs. Not to mention all the youth we have on defense. Even if the Cowboys maybe aren't quite ready to make serious noise this season, it's so great to see them really headed in the right direction.

I expect Thompson to get a series in the second half. He's a real threat when he runs the ball, but I think he's struggling to learn the rest of the game. But don't you think Bill was glad to have him, to put some pressure on Marion?

I don't know how much Jones's job may be in jeopardy, but I suspect that his 30-carry days are long gone. Bill has always liked a committee approach at running back. Remember his first year here, when he mixed Anderson and Cason in regularly. His Giants teams were similar.

Now let's see if Tyson can get a shot at running this kickoff back!

Barber has got 2 TDs and 89 yards in the first half. I really wonder if he is going to start because I already have Julius on my fantasy roster. Now, I wonder if I should try to pick up Barber as well (because I already have 4 running backs). Good situation for the Cowboys to have this many good backs, but bad news for fantasy owners like myself for the Cowboys to have a lot of good running backs.

I completely agree. The nice thing about the Bill Parcells era is that we have seen less and less of these horrible announcing teams that we seemed to see weekly during the Dave Campo era.

Yeah, I picked up Barber, but now I have 5 running backs (J Jones, Tatum Bell, Edgerrin James, LaMont Jordan, and M Barber), and I don't really want to cut loose any of them. Big problem is, I have have about 6 good players injured/on byes right now so having 3 running backs on my bench is kind of hurting. Next week isn't looking any better for my team. However, assuming all is okay with Anthony Henry, my team should be back at full strength after next week. Looks like I am going to just have to suck it up for these 2 weeks.

how did our new kicker look? I know he didn't have a long field goal attempt, but I'm just wondering if he looked like he could kick the ball straight -- something cortez seemingly had trouble with.

I thought he looked solid. Granted, he wasn't challenged w/anything (both of his FGs were like 20, I think), but at least he didn't freak out or anything. I think all of his kicks were right down the middle. Kickoffs weren't as good as Cortez, but they weren't unacceptable. Certainly he didn't do anything to hurt his chances to stick around for another game.

Don't look now, but we have a hell of a chance to win one in Philly after the bye. The Iggles look awful! It's time for us to put a stranglehold on this division. With Washington losing to NY today, a win in Philly and a sweep of the Giants would just about clinch the division for us.

I think I might call for brake tapping on that. This WAS the Cardinals after all, and Barber was running through some big holes. He was breaking some tackles, but I'd put his ability at that behind JJ. Jones is very good at breaking tackles, and better in short yardage, but Barber is faster and better in pass receiving, IMO.

I can see JJ carrying the load and Barber being our nickel back when everyone is at full strength.

Dallas -- 7th in the league against the run (just for comparison)
Seattle - 22 for 95 -- 17th in the league against the rush
Cardinals - 27 for 127. -- 12th in the league against the rush

I don't necessarily think Barber will be Ladinian or anything, but I'm just not (nor haven't been) enamored of Jones escapability. It's good that he had big holes but he must have had them last week as well then.

Default RE: Cards @ dallas

Juice Jones made his name, for the most part, in breaking several long runs last year. He did have a few nice runs in the red zone, but for that matter so did Barber today. The other thing that made Jones what he was last year was his durability. When he was in the game, that is. Those 30-carry games meant something.

Barber may not have the endurance to carry the ball 30 times a few games in a row--or maybe he does; he ran 27 times today--but he wouldn't have to if all the Cowboys backs were healthy, any more than Jones would have had to last year if Barber and Thompson were on the team. So this is probably a non-issue.

But durability in terms of dodging injuries may be. Juice has now missed half the games the Cowboys have played since he got here. Not good.

I don't remember Jones having any glaring weaknesses in the blocking game lately, but evidently this is something that Barber does well also.

Jones can catch the ball a little bit out of the backfield, but Barber might be able to do it a little better.

I want to say that Juice has it on Barber a bit in short-yardage or goal line, but then again, we haven't seen a whole let of Barber in this regard, and I seem to remember that Jones had his fair share of struggles too, especially this year.

Bottom line is that Jones has an experience edge on Barber--though that edge may be rapidly evaporating as Barber plays and Jones sits--but that otherwise the two are very similar players. Remember that Jones was a second-round pick himself, and I seem to remember our beloved OP, in I guess one of his last posts here, saying that he hadn't seen much in Jones at Notre Dame to particularly distinguish him.

I know it was just the Cardinals, but hey, it was also the Seahawks last week, and the kid does seem to be a very tough runner. I thought his best run today was the one where he about got his head ripped off and still finished the run for a few more yards. Oh, and I did also like how he seemed to have a nose for the end zone.

As Parcells said about him postgame, the kid has pedigree (his dad was an NFL back, I think) and he does appear to be a complete player.

Maybe he does take Jones's spot away from him. Or maybe they stay together for a while as a 1-2 punch.
