Hell yeah!

O´zapft is (Bavarian slogan of the mayor at the opening)

Oans, zwoa, G´suffa (Bavarian toast)

Oktoberfest (Wiesn) is the biggest folk (beer) festival in the world. It´s in Munich.

Some facts:

- 12.000 people (thereof 1.200 waiters) work at the Oktoberfest
- there are tents with a seating capacity of 100.000
- the area of the Oktoberfest is 40 hectare (1 hectare = 10.000 square metres)
- the biggest tent has a capacity of 10.000 seats
- it needs about 1 month to build the "tents" which are build out of wood and steel...
- the cost of half a roasted chicken is 8.90 Euro
- the cost for a beer (you only get 1 liter = 1 Maas) is 8.20 Euro

Some records of last year:

- 6.2 million visitors in 16 days
- they drank 6.7 million liters beer (= 11 million pints)
- there is one tent called "Ochsenbraterei" where you can eat ox from a skewer (the guests ate 104 oxen there)
- beer consumption at one day: 419,000 liters

Now that I have a clue what this is, I can fully endorse it!

Well described, Doc. I was in Munich last year in November and the dudes were still rebuilding the "tents".

A colleague of minr from Houston opened a thread at s2k and i though it was appropriate to have one here either.

One addition.
The nice Munichians open up a seperate vomiting area, called the " hill of puke ", especially for the Wiesenzeit. There you can ... ,ya´ know, and sleep as well until the cops wake you up .
And it´s for free, all covered with the 8,30 € for a beer.

They arrange simply everything.

Joe Jackson, the father of Michael Jackson +, asked for seats at the Octoberfest in Munich. Wiesenwirt Joseph "Sepp" Krätz told Michaels´s Dad that it would be inappropriate to celebrate Wiesenfest, when his own son has died some weeks ago. And he rejected Jackson´s petition.
I think, Mr. Krätz was right here.
