Official GDT: Bulls @ Mavs - 02/07/09 - 7:30pm CST
Chicago just had a very impressive victory over the Hornets in New Orleans in their last time out. Chicago beat us earlier in the year when they went on a ridiculous run on us. This is an important game for us because the West is so close.
Since the return of Hinrich, their backcourt have played fantastic. We need to defend well tonight and not allow Rose to get to the rim, which is much easier said then done.
Will Dirk find his shot? He's been in a pretty bad rut these last couple of games, and even though we managed to beat Portland despite of it, he was a no-show in Utah the other night.
We are on the cusp of really making a move up the standings in the West, it's on us to take it.
I'm 3-0 on GDT's so far this season, let's keep the undefeated streak rolling. If we win this game, I'll take the Boston game as well. Bring it!
Chicago 92 - 103 Dallas

I think we're gonna win, but it ain't gonna do much for my confidence on the team. But a win is a win. And I feel this will be a win. Looking forward to watching this one.

dirk was twisted with fouls in the game vs. portland, and played a back-to-back game in Utah's home which is even as terrible as hell, he has got excuse for both games.
despite the past two games, dirk had played pretty well in the 3 straight wins before his two games sucking. (personnally I think he didn't perform that bad in the winning game over portland, he just sucked in the 1st quarter).

The Mavs probably will win. Unfortunately it doesn't matter much. The Mavs blew their chance to get in the top 4. They've blown every chance so far to leapfrog that Portland/Phx/Utah/Houston group. And now with New Orleans missing Paul, they blew a golden opportunity to leapfrog the Hornets as well.

Because they lost one game? There are over 30 games left, so I'm not sure they've blown their chance to make up a 1-2 game gap on anybody.

Agree, the Lakers closed a 2 game gap with 7 games left against the Hornets last year, surely, SURELY our beloved Mavs can close a 1 game gap on the Hornets? (#4 seed)
Hell, the Spurs/Nuggets aren't necessarily locks either.
Our boys will have to earn it, but it's certainly possible.
And again, 19 of the final 33 are at home. Really if we play at home like we have the last 18 games we should finish on the good side of 50, where that lands us is uncertain, but we'll see.

They can still crack the top 4...... but there won't be as many chances as it seems. It still boils down to us losing less than whoever we're passing. Every loss of theirs is a golden opportunity for us. We haven't been capitalizing all-season long. With that said, GO MAVS!

Dirk with a wide open 12 footer, decides to post dribble for the ridiculously difficult for no reason fading jumper.
If i see that tonight, i will explode.

You forget that while that shot might be difficult for others, it's Dirk's bread and butter.

But somethings i think he has fun to go with seconds to play before halftime for the layup against a small guard to pick up his 3. foul.
Shootings isnt always fun

Dirk doesn't have a bread and butter against the Jazz.
He has half of a stale pita with margarine.

The Mavs may get back to the 4th seed. But they **blew** a chance to get the 4th seed the other night. You cannot deny that. Had they beaten Utah, they would be in 5th place only a half game behind Portland (which they hold the tie breaker and winning tonight.)
Those chances don't come along very often, especially with Chris Paul out of the lineup for the Hornets. The Mavs blew that opportunity.
Hopefully it will come back around. But that isn't a basketballgirlesque post. That was stating a fact. Hard fact to swallow but a fact nonetheless. The Mavs had a chance to surpass New Orleans, Houston, Portland, etc, and they blew it by getting blown out against Utah.
And the 30+ games left is a meaningless stat because if they can't leapfrog New Orleans with Paul out they damn sure won't leapfrog them when he will play after the all-star break. The same goes for Houston and their injury situation, etc.

So?
If they can't leapfrog teams while the opponents are hurting what makes you think they will leapfrog their opponents when they are at full strength?

I agree somewhat with you. Mavs always miss that chance. They have had about 3-4 chances this year to get some distance between them and others and move up and ended up losing every time. Its just something that this team is not good at.
NOW I think there will be more chances, and I think your overrating NO even with Paul

Possible, true. But not probable. That is why you have to take advantage of it when the opportunity arises.

Hmmmm....
I get your point that you try to take advantage of an opportunity when it arises, but to say the ship has sailed. Things happen, some of them completely unexpected...you can't take anything simply at face value.
I'm on board with the "30+ games left" camp.
