While it wouldn't look good, one never knows. The injury bug with those 3 guys makes me wonder the odds of all 3 of them being on the floor at the same time for the playoffs after a long season.

I still remember Nash and Howard signing with Kobe in LA. Most people thought that was a super strong team, but it imploded spectacularly. I really wouldn't mind seeing that happen in LA again except that I do actually like Leonard. I think he's too level headed to get involved in that mess, so I think it's more of a meeting to leverage offers from other teams, which is super smart imo. If people think the Lakers are involved, then any interested parties are more than likely to throw everything and the kitchen sink in their offers.

@wojespn: Denver will bring back Millsap for the final season of his three-year contract at $30.3M, have available their $9.2M mid-level exception AND still stay under the luxury tax. Denver is loaded to compete for the Western Conference title.

@TheHoopCentral: Kemba Walker is on his way to Boston, Celtics are planning on offering Kemba a 4-Year/$141 Million offer shortly after free agency begins, per Woj.

I expect that the Knicks fans suddenly went from "Kyrie is awesome" to... "He really wasn't our first option we want bigger fish". And when KD and Kawhi sign elsewhere it'll be- "KD would have been a huge risk I'm fine watching Barrett and Julius Randle is really underrated and still developing. Kawhi misses too many games".

Knicks gonna Knick.

That Kyrie deal could age badly. He’s a headcase and always hurt. One of my least favorite players.

@_Andrew_Lopez: Niko Mirotic signing for 6 years and $79.7 million in US dollars.

Nowwwww this makes sense.

Would he not have signed for more in the NBA? That breaks down to a little over $13 mil/year.

Doubtful he would have earned more than 15 in the States the rest of his career. Taxes may play some role here but being home for almost same amount of money + bigger endorsement deals in Spain than the US + usually European contracts include accommodation already, not that he would need any.

In short, taxes + endorsement possibilities will at the bare minimum be worth as much as he would get in the States before taxes.

@TheSteinLine: If it was about money, Mirotic would have stayed in the NBA. As @NYTSports reported yesterday, Utah was poised to sign Mirotic to a three-year, $45 million deal -- with the Jazz now shifting their sights to signing to Indiana's Bojan Bogdanovc

Would be nice to see where math supports the idea of earning more in the States. There might be only a marginal edge for staying in NBA but reported math shows so little difference that doubtful it gets bigger. Of course Spain's taxes might be a hell also but I think I know as much as Stein about Spain's taxes that would apply in total.

Thing is also that I can not imagine Mirotic earning more than 15 per year even in the future. Could easily end up out of the league after that 3/15 deal, especially with a major injury in the last year of his contract... Like I said, would like to see arguments how he lost money on his guaranteed deal compared to staying in the NBA.

Its not all about money, its about happiness. He gets to play in a place he likes until he retires. In the NBA he may ends up in six months in Minnesota

TheSteinLine: Talk of Ricky Rubio and a "virtual done deal" with Indiana has been circulating for a week. That's another one many teams have circled as a likely Day 1 verbal agreement after the opening bell sounds at 6 PM Eastern

@wojespn: Once free agency opens at 6 PM ET, center Jonas Valanciunas is expected to commit to a three-year, $45M contract to return to the Memphis Grizzlies, league sources tell ESPN.

No kidding. That's less than half of what Vuc is reportedly getting. I'd like him on the Mavs for that.

@AlbertNahmad: Here’s what a potential Damian Lillard 4-year, $196M super-max extension would look like:

2021-22 (age 31): $43.75M
2022-23 (age 32): $47.25M
2023-24 (age 33): $50.75M
2024-25 (age 34): $54.25M

I'm not sure if hate this this more, or the fact that free agency is over before it even begins...

Time to pull up Knicks forums in preparation for the implosion and sudden denial that KD/Kyrie are worth their max.

@TheSteinLine: If today's events don't make Jim Dolan take a step back and think about where the Knicks are as a brand -- after, remember, Dolan himself promised big things in free agency in March -- I'm not sure what will

I hope Kawhi and Butler stay in the east...then the Clippers are toast too.

Would be better for some WC/EC balance

I wouldn't mind seeing the free agents going east. This inbalance we've had for several decades is old

Free agency is about to get expensive...

@ShamsCharania: Free agent guard Terry Rozier plans to agree to a three-year, $58M contract with the Charlotte Hornets via sign-and-trade, league sources tell @TheAthleticNBA @Stadium.

So if Boston gets the Irving deal AND the Kemba deal done as a sign-and-trade too then they remain over the cap and can resign Horford

You and that big brain of yours...

@KeithSmithNBA: Sources: The Boston Celtics are progressing towards a series of sign and trade deals to enable them to re-sign Al Horford, while also maintaining the full MLE.

They did this for Rozier but not for Kemba??

@BobbyMarks42: Charlotte will become hard capped ($138.9M) with the addition of Terry Rozier, The Hornets are a projected $120M in salary, $12M below the tax and $19M below the hard cap threshold. 3 roster spots available.

Ross to Magic 4/54 which is 13.5 a season. That's a relative bargain, and maybe the Mavs can get Lamb for similar money if Brogdon falls through.
