Default So whats the plan? Win now or playing for next year?

Win now. Well if so we need to use some of that dry powder and acquire some NBA caliber talent at Center and PG.
If we are playing for next year then why the hell are we running out Fisher, Brand, Carter? Sure we might claw our way back to .500 but that does nothing but make our draft status worse.
At the moment Cuban and co. are doing nothing but riding the fence. We have no clear direction as an organization.

Cuban and co. are trying to keep the team competitive until Dirk comes back and they can see how this team (which they more than likely built specifically around him) really works.

So far I think they've done a solid job.

Are we in or out? Just like Cuban asked Odom. If we're in let's see the front office add some talent. It's going on 2 years of financial flexibility.

I guess the descent back towards 90's mavs ball is more okay with some than others.

You guys are right. Cuban is teh bestest Evar and letting go of all of our talent for a pipedream was a great call.

So now we can't even use our dry powder? So I'm really getting confused about direction now.

I'd tank but I don't see that happening, even with Dirk the upside is probably a first round exit.

Two years since we won the title and people are posting about us not playing "big boy ball." I hate this place when we're losing.

Get on board or GTFO.

Why would you want to add salary now, when there are big free agents available next summer? I know, i know, they probably won't sign here, you still gonna try that, otherwise the last 2 years, and the decision to let everyone go, was really for nothing. If Howard and/or Paul stays in LA, i guess you can try a different route, give Mayo his 12 million, or go after another borderline all-star, or 2. I'm not sure i would be a fan of that though. The thing imo some of you don't understand, is that there is no Dirk window at the moment. It's closed, unless we can get more talent. So build a deep team without more elite talent might not be the smartest thing to do.

You want to wait until there's a definite timetable for Dirk and how this year shakes out record-wise, but if they go on a complete drought against the heavy schedule and end up 11-20 going into 2013 it'll be tough to reach the playoffs.

51 games left and you'll probably need 46 Ws for the 8th seed means going 35-16 in the remainder. Not impossible with Dirk (need a 68.8 Win%, posted such a % in 6 of 11 non-rookie, non-lockout seasons) but it's also far away from being a lock.

11-20 not the most probable scenario, but it's surely something that could happen.

now, when Dirk comes back. Mayo+Dirk+Marion is a great nucleus.

Still doesn't solve our biggest problem rebounding. but it does solve 2 of our secondary problems. inability to finish close games. Teams can't double Juice any more

What you mean is, you have no clear direction as to where the organization is headed. Who is we? Mark and Donnie are about the best in the business, there is none better. Let it ride and see what happens.

There are those of you that jump to conclusions and piss n moan irrationally when we haven't had Dirk play one game this season. Stop whining please, for your own sake, you look like child. Then there are those who realize that until he is back you can't go off the deep end. Step back off the ledge, we aren't gonna "tank" the season. Especially just because a few ridiculous members of a fan board think it's the right thing to do. It's not happening, period. Even if Dirk comes back and we can't get things going. They are gonna fight and claw their way to the end even if it means we end up a half a game out of the 8th seed.

Have you guys looked at the free agency in 2014? I say this coming off-season we try and lock up Mayo, continue to develop Crowder and James, and pick up any role players we can get cheap. Then in 2014 Marion (if he doesn't get traded before then) and Nowitski are off the books. Nowitski (if he still wants to play) would likely sign a much lower contract and we'll have big cash to spend on whomever Cuban wants to shoot for.

No, or at least not yet, and i also add, signing everybody back could have been also for nothing. Chances are imo, it would have been for nothing, that is why i think Cuban doesn't necessarily need to sign a superstar in order to justify letting everybody go. You could argue it was the good move regardless of the outcome of the FA seasons. It's not like he blew up the early 2000 Lakers, or Spurs. If we would have had that kind of team in tact, obviously he happily extends everyone to 3-4-5 years deals. We didn't, and he knew it.

I say both...

This team can be .500 without Dirk and if he come back they can make a run in the
playoffs.... BUT this team is not totally ready for sucees. They miss a pg and a center.

Besides they are failing now... Collison, Beaubois, Wright, Brand, Jones and Kaman all the new acquisitions are good players to have on a team (role players)... the problem is how much money they will demand?

The safe to say is... OJ (2nd option), Marion (glue guy), Carter (sixthman) and Dirk (star) are keepers.

So what will happen next year?

I believe Oj should be paired with another combo guard that have enought size to switch positions with him on D in certain cases (Joe Johnsons and Paul George of the league).

I think you guys should trade Collison or Beaubois + D jones + picks for Tyreke Evans. And a player like Larry Sanders would be a good prospect option to adquire for the year to come. I still believe Wright has some chance to be that guy for you guys.

A good playoff team with a lot of potential to become a contender next year.

Tyreke/Fisher/Collison or Beaubois or Cunningham
OJ/Jones
Marion/Carter/Crowder
Dirk/Brand
Sanders/Kaman/Wright

Trade machine... throw picks to make things work.
