Default Should Dirk be a top MVP candidate??

I remember a discussion about this in football a few years back when Manning missed thw whole season and some people jokingly or not suggeated that because the Colts were so bad ...that Manning should be considered an MVP candidate.

Soo what about Dirk this year. The Mavs are not "that" horrible, but theyr in bad shape. Lets say Dirk comes back and we win around 50 games. Should he not be an MVP candidate and the fact that he was hurt and his team was prtty bad without him should support the claim. Another guy you can make thisrgument for is D Rose, but the Bulls have more talent than the Mavs.

Any thoughts on this?

Dirk should always be considered a top MVP candidate. Many pundits discount him-- preferring to look at PPG instead of advanced stats and +/- stats, but many of the more knowledgeable basketball guys always view Dirk as one of the best of all time (Hubie, Collins, etc.) It's why Dirk is always last in all-star votes but makes up ground when coaches weigh in.

If the Mavericks win in the low 50s or mid 50s there is no doubt about it.

Yes but Dirk's probably not nearly as good as he was from '06-'11. I think his minutes will be kept to the low 30's so that he can play at a high level for many more years to come. He's still a top 3 player in the playoffs (with LeBron and Durant), when it matters the most.

If Dirk takes this team to the playoffs it will top his finals MVP championship year.
