Default Nashville

I am sure most of you have seen this on the news but if you believe in that sort of thing shoot some prayers this way as there are many people dealing with destroyed homes, flooded businesses, and lost family members due to all of this rainfall. We are lucky to be in one of the few parts of Bellevue that isn't under water right now - many others aren't so lucky. Sewage is becoming a problem now as it is coming up and getting into the water that sits in the streets downtown. I saw a picture on the Channel 4 news website that showed a Rosa Parks stop sign almost completely under water. Yeah, I work on that road.

I saw a fun little stat on the news today. Today broke the single day record for rainfall in TN. Today and yesterday broke the two-day mark. This is the worst rainfall ever for the month of may, (2 days in). This is the 5th worst month ever, (again, 2 days in). Just crazy!

Tomorrow will be fun.

Bellevue, where I am, had roughly 15-16 inches.

Couldn't go to work today - crazy amounts of water. The Cumberland River is going to crest around noon today. Major flooding in many places. Hard to imagine it getting worse with a nice sunny day but the water levels are rising. There are homes less than 2 miles from me with water up to the 2nd floor - cars completely under water.

We have had 30% of our annual rainfall in these past 3 days btw - just think about that for a minute. 3 days = 30 percent of what typically falls in 365, and we annually have more rain fall than Seattle.

It was raining HARD for 2 days straight. Absolutely crazy.

Most popular scene of the flooding, by far:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zHuMn1AVRDg

I actually only live about 10 minutes from that scene, but my area is up pretty high. Only had a good sized lake puddle in my back yard.

But lots of other areas were hit and today we have to worry about the rivers rising as the creeks empty into them. Opryland Hotel evacuated all its guests (they are right near the cumberland river - http://www.wsmv.com/video/23435320/index.html), and downtown nashville has about 3-4 streets flooded next to the river.

Lots of picture galleries, too:

i believe 15 are confirmed dead from the floods in TN and MS.

Another sad thing is that a large number of those affected don't have flood insurance, as floods aren't covered by a typical homeowner's insurance...

Yeah - So many major buildings are going to have major damage.

Opry Mills Mall - underwater a good bit
Gaylord Opryland - two floors of water
Grand Ol Opry - taking on water in basement
Hockey Arena for Preds - water all in there from underground, (not from overspill of river)
Titans Stadium - water all in the field there

Those are all buildings owned by well off people. Like BBL said earlier, the real sad part is for homeowners without flood insurance. Some people couldn't even buy it because they were told they weren't in the flood path - this intense rain changed all of that. Talk about a law suit!!!

I am literally in the middle of purchasing a house, (wrote the contract today), in Hendersonville and I am super worried that the house we are looking at is going to raise the price due to only so many good homes out there. Or that the number of contracts will soar through the roof on this home and all stable homes that didn't get effected by this, (this home I am looking to buy didn't).

All I know is that this is going to cost a SHIT LOAD to recover from. A SHIT LOAD!!!

Yah - got contract finalized today and didn't have to pay a lot more than I planned on paying. Got closing costs covered too, (off topic, I know, but I mentioned it in here earlier and I am excited so, um, there)!

Holy crap dude. Some of those cars have their brake lights on, which means at the very least their car is on. What can you do in that situation? Water is covering the hood of the car, that is just crazy man. It's weird how that barrier that separates traffic is holding all the water on one side. Also, if you watch that video, you can see that semi truck driver open the door on his cab. I wonder what he is thinking. He is higher up than the rest of the cars, but pretty soon the water is going to start getting to high for him too.

No, it stopped raining early Monday morning. In fact, the weather has been gorgeous the past 3 days. Not a cloud in the sky.

But with the constant rain over the weekend, the creeks overflowed. After the rain stopped and the creeks emptied into the rivers, that's when the cumberland overflowed its banks into downtown nashville and other areas (like opryland). It is only now receding.

If anyone wants to donate money to relief efforts, and also receive something for your money, check out this site:

http://nashvilleflood.myshopify.com/collections/all

All profits (above the cost of materials) of the sales of the shirts are going to charity for relief efforts.
