What does the draft night tells us?

We have quite some teams who made questionable or at least unusual moves if you take a look at their situation ...

Just a quote from ESPN:

<< Now, I know Humphrey may be able to play the three in the pros, and I know the Magic will almost certainly deal Mike Miller by summer's end >>

So what we´ve got here now?

Golden State ...
Still no PG there - but another very talented SF alongside undersized PF (natural SF) Antawn Jamison and immobile and undersized PF Fortson.

Magic ...
In need for big bodies upfront, willing to part with Mike Miller (see above), and still looking for a Point Guard for some reason ...

New York
Still said to be looking for a star-PG to play with McDyess, Houston and ... maybe not Sprewell anymore? If you take a look - some PG, Houston, Sprewell, McDyess, some center ... not too much guys who are really well known for beeing willing AND able to carry the load of the team on their shoulders ON OFFENSE every given nigh

Indiana and Phillie
Both teams almost did nothing. Actually, they looked like not even WILLING to play the draft night game, though at least one of them has an urgent need. Phillie NEEDS someone to provide offensive firepower. Indiana needs someone to run the show - accoring to media coverage - until Tinsley can lead their now young squad into the post-Miller time.

And then there´s Cleveland.
Takin Dajuan Wagner, dealing Wesley Person for Nick Anderson and a 2nd rounder. Are they already preparing for NEXT years lottery? DeSagana Diop, Dajuan Wagner, Zydrunas Ilgauskas. Three good reasons why Cleveland won´t win much - but what exactly are they aiming at?

How can Dallas take profit?

Tell those GM´s out there that they need to be active, to get something done. Get into contact with teams like Clips, who have urgent post-season needs, or Phoenix, and convince them about joing multi-team deals. Try to get something on the table worth taling about. Just some names - Fortson will likely have to leave GS, so where is he going? Magic probably? GET INTO THIS DEAL. Pry away Miller from Orlando maybe? Add Foyle, and you´ll have a deadly package ... or get into a Deal with Indiana ... maybe it is time for Indiana to part with Reggie Miller, and is there really and Playing time for Jeff Foster behind Jermaine O´Neal, Brad Miller, Jonathan Bender and this other talented big guys and wanna-be SF´s ...?
Now after the Andre Miller thing between the Clips and Cleveland looks like beein finally a broken one, VanExel might be worth a thought in LA ...?

USE THE MOMENT MARK - many guys are not satisfied at the moment ...

just some additional numbers:

Eschmeyer VanE for
Reggie Foster

works capwise ...

Dallas roster after trade:
PG - Nash, A. Johnson
SG - Reggie Miller, TAW, Buckner
SF - Finley, Griffin, Najera
PF - Dirk, Foster
C - LaF, Bradley

Indiana:
PG - Van Exel, Tinsley
SG - Mercer, Fred Jones
SF - Artest, Al Harrington
PF - Jermaine O Neal, Bender, Croshere
C - Brad Miller, Eschmeier
and those other young guys ...

maybe not what we need long term though

Mike Miller, at least, sounds interesting.

Scratch Matt Harpring. I had his 3-game way overrated. Miller, however....

i know GS gets kinda ripped on that one, but take a look:

Dallas receives: SG Mike Miller (15.2 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 3.1 apg in 33.7 minutes)
SF Jud Buechler (1.7 ppg, 1.8 rpg, 0.5 apg in 10.4 minutes)
C Adonal Foyle (4.8 ppg, 4.9 rpg, 0.5 apg in 18.8 minutes)
Change in team outlook: +3.3 ppg, +7.5 rpg, and -2.5 apg.

Orlando trades: SG Mike Miller (15.2 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 3.1 apg in 33.7 minutes)
SF Jud Buechler (1.7 ppg, 1.8 rpg, 0.5 apg in 10.4 minutes)
Orlando receives: PG Larry Hughes (12.3 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 4.3 apg in 73 games)
PF Danny Fortson (11.2 ppg, 11.7 rpg, 1.6 apg in 77 games)
Change in team outlook: +6.6 ppg, +9.0 rpg, and +2.3 apg.

Golden State trades: PG Larry Hughes (12.3 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 4.3 apg in 28.1 minutes)
C Adonal Foyle (4.8 ppg, 4.9 rpg, 0.5 apg in 18.8 minutes)
PF Danny Fortson (11.2 ppg, 11.7 rpg, 1.6 apg in 28.8 minutes)
Golden State receives: PG Nick Van Exel (18.4 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 6.6 apg in 72 games)
Change in team outlook: -9.9 ppg, -16.5 rpg, and +0.2 apg.

Add some future first round rook from Dallas going to GS and I think we might have a deal ...

How about adding the FA Chris Gatling?

MIAMI -- The Miami Heat waived Chris Gatling on Thursday, ending the 6-foot-10 forward's third stint with the team.

Gatling averaged 6.4 points and 3.8 rebounds in 54 games last season for Miami.

He spent part of the 1995-96 season with the Heat and briefly rejoined the team before the 2000-01 season. Two months after coming to Miami, the Heat dealt him to Cleveland in the trade that brought Brian Grant to Miami and sent Shawn Kemp to Portland.

The Heat reacquired Gatling before last season in a three-team trade with Toronto and Cleveland.

Gatling began his career with the Golden State Warriors in 1991. He has played for eight teams in 11 seasons, averaging 10.3 points and 5.3 rebounds.

Actually, you are very, very wrong on Philadelphia, they were anything BUT QUIET!!!
.............The Philadelphia 76ers spent draft day doing some minor retooling, making three trades Wednesday, including one that sent guard Speedy Claxton to the San Antonio Spurs.

The 76ers sent Claxton to the Spurs for veteran forward Mark Bryant, the rights to swingman John Salmons and the rights to senior forward Randy Holcomb. Salmons, a senior from Miami, was selected 26th overall by San Antonio.

"Everybody that knows him says that he is what our team is all about," Sixers coach Larry Brown said.

The Sixers also sent guard Jiri Welsch, whom they selected 16th in the draft, to the Golden State Warriors for a 2005 first-round pick and a future first-round pick.

"He may go to Golden State and play a lot of minutes. They're not a team that is competing for where we're trying to compete at this point," 76ers general manager Billy King said.

Finally, Philadelphia sent 2004 and 2006 second-round picks to Atlanta for the rights to center Efthimios Rentzias. In the second round, the Sixers drafted USC senior forward Sam Clancy.

"We got four-year seniors in Holcomb, Clancy and Salmons," Brown said. "We got a first-round pick back (in the 2005 draft) and we got a 26-year-old kid in Rentzias who, if he was in this year's draft, he would've have been a first-round pick this year."

The 5-11 Claxton was a 2000 first-round pick who missed the entire 2000-01 season with a torn ACL. He averaged 7.2 points and 3.0 assists in 67 games last season.

"I"m dying that he's gone," Brown said.

The 6-7 Salmons played four different positions as a senior at Miami, averaging 13.1 points per game while leading the team with 6.1 assists and 1.8 steals. His 195 assists were the second-highest single-season total in school history.

Salmons often matched up with opponents' top scorers and held his own. As a freshman, he had his strongest defensive games against Richard Hamilton and Michael Redd, both current NBA shooting guards.

Rentzias was a 1996 first-round pick of the Denver Nuggets whose rights were traded to Atlanta the following year. He has been playing in Europe.

Quiet was the wrong word ... concerning philly.

THEY JUST DID USELESS MOVES was the better ...

all they did was avoiding luxury tax - and weakening their team

Philly did nothing to strengthen their team.
