This. We can't keep calling it bad shooting nights when they're specifically coming against the top teams. Although MIA was just a bad loss.

Man this team needs some serious late game poise. I counted three missed free throws by monta, parsons, Dirk that would have iced it along with that moronic Ellis "drive", can you even call it that. And dirks shot was horrible as well. Just a give up.

They battle all the way back, have it in their hands and then just spit the bit. Pretty big choke.

Yup, choked it away at the FT line. Ellis jumped in the air and i'm still not sure why. No pass was open, so pull back and go again against Harden.

It may be a good thing we lost this game. Our next six are against the East, including Toronto and Chicago, who are pleaying pretty good ball right now. Still, we have a chance to rack up a bunch of wins against sub-par teams, which leads to over confidence. Instead, this team needs to be reminded of how far we need to go to beat the elite teams. Losing to Houston without Howard should be a stick in the craw, a burr under the saddle, a constant reminder that we still are not good enough to beat the good teams.

I think Carlisle relishes these losses as teaching moments. Which is good. This team still has a lot to learn.

It's debatable, but there's a reason why it's the biggest sport in the world. Especially the European fan culture is second to none.

Maybe we should adopt professional soccer's storied history of racism as well.

JET celebrating is a non-story. Us giving him something to celebrate is of much greater concern. Hopefully this is a wake up call for the Mavs. We're not elite (yet).

Slightly related note, the disparity between good teams and bad teams seems to be growing.

Sixers W

9-2 possibly 8-3

Record wise, we'll be fine. Got to work on fine tuning and just playing with intensity when the time comes.

Yes, thank god there has never been any racism in other sports. Color barriers or anything like that.

There's nothing to be concerned about. The Mavs had an off night and still Houston were quite lucky to win. They won't do anything in the post season.

do they still give division winners a spot in the top four. If so we will be battling Memphis, Spurs, Houston all year to get either first or 4th.

Yeah, that's pretty crazy how the Mavs--and every other sports team in existence, ever--are more likely to lose to good teams and more likely to beat bad teams.

It's crazy, man.

I've always said its a process

When your team is bad, it can only beat bad teams at home.
When they get a little better, they can beat bad teams on the road, and challenge decent teams at home.
Once you get good enough to beat those decent teams at home and on the road, you should be blowing out bad teams at home and on the road. This is where today's Mavs are.

The next step is beating elite teams at home. This is the next step for the Mavs

When you can beat elite teams on the road, you are elite. Almost beating SA and HOU is a sign we are close. Losing to the Rox without Howard shows how far we still have to
go.

why do NBATV announcers lean towards Rockets? They are worse than local foxsports people. I thought it's national TV and has a neutral standpoint like ESPN.

They go with the home team announcers during games for some reason.

The only really bad loss was the Miami game. The others are at least understandable.

And it bothers me that some can just focus on the negatives. How about something positive like the center position being arguably our best position? Who predicted Wright's great year so far? I'd actually like to purposely derail this thread into something positive.

The Aftermath - Day 1:

I'm not doing very well. Didn't get much sleep last night. I had nightmares of James Harden flopping all over the place, and I just can't get the sickening image of Jason Terry in a Rockets jersey out of my head. I think I'm going crazy. If the Cowboys also lose tonight I just might lose my mind.

I really don't care whether folks are positive or negative, but whichever you choose, you better have something rational to say.

I don't agree with that. They got blown out by the Blazers, and they almost let Boston come back in the game. That being said Dallas are 10-4. Just got to be more consistent on the defensive end.

I'm afraid they aren't mutually exclusive. Hyperbolic negative knee-jerking tends to be irrational.

Mavs shot 17% from three and should have won the game, so there is obviously a silver lining. Toronto and Chicago will be two huge tests on the road coming up. Two really good defensive teams with great home advantages. If the Mavs can take one of the two it will go a long way to improving their confidence on the road.

I didn't like how the Rockets were picking fights with the Mavs. Harden gets bumped on the face and lays on the ground then get up and pushes Chandler? I hate that guy now.
