Default Did anyone watch Saturday Night Live?

Anyone catch the season opener last night? As expected, it was chock full o' political entertainment.

I, for one, was surprised that the show took as many jabs at Kerry as it did. Of course it poked fun at Bush as well, but I expected the characterizations to be slanted more toward Kerry, especially since everyone seems to think that Kerry "won" the debate. I thought the show skewered Kerry's own debate performance pretty harshly. And it really hammered home the flip-flop issue. (In case you didn't see the show, the issue that it hammered Bush about was the "hard work" issue...it portrayed him as a tired and lazy leader.)

At any rate, the last thing that Kerry needed was SNL making the flip-flop case far more effectively than the Republicans have so far. I don't know how much influence SNL has on public opinion, but I suspect that it has at least a little.

Reeds, Letterman's attempts at jokes on the President will not have near the effect as the SNL jabs at calling Kerry a flip flopper. Letterman is a well known liberal and Kerry supporter. Jokes against Bush are expected. SNL is anything but a conservative supporting program and most definitely not a Bush backer. If anything they are as near as liberal if not more so than Letterman. However, SNL does make an attempt to make fun of all major Presidential candiates in an even handed manner. They don't always carry it out, but they do make the attempt. Ufortunately for you and the Kerry camp, Kerry has a serious weakness in his flip flopping.

Man, that SNL debate skit dragged on forever.
I was flipping back and forth between that and MadTV. MadTV had a skit about the president's reaction to the WTC attacks. For seven minutes he continued to try to read a children's story about a goat (has trouble reading) while the imaginary characters in his head continually try to remind him that someone just told him something important (America's under attack).
Kerry responds by showing how it would have gone if he was president: years and years of sitting in the same classroom debating with himself about the proper response that should be taken, finally deciding that a strongly worded letter would be best, warning the terrorists that if it happens again, another (perhaps even more strongly written) letter may perhaps in that case be warranted.
Those people at MadTV just have better impersonators. The guy doing Bush is spot on, and the guy doing Kerry is just about the funniest presidential impersonation I've seen in a long time.
