Default Are the Lakers unstoppable next year?

Since the Gasol trade they're now 27-4 in games in which he plays. All of this is without Trevor Ariza, who is their best defensive swingman and Andrew Bynum, their center of the future, apparently.

considering their impressive record without 2 of their 3-4 best defensive players, is everyone else just playing for 2nd place next year?

I've lurked boards, and some Laker fans envision their team next year chasing 70 wins. I for one doubt it because of the fact that the west should be even more competitive next year, but they seem pretty optimistic of a forthcoming dynasty.

If this is so, it makes me very gloomy as a Mavs fan.

Who knows what can happen in the offseason I guess.

Kobe Bryant gets injured in December & misses the rest of the season - the Lakers courageously go 50-32 without him, squeak into the playoffs as 8th seed, then lose in the first round to the #1-seeded Mavericks (who go on to win the Championship...)

They're going to be extremely tough. After seeing how annoying and arrogant their fans became after winning those championships with Shaq and Kobe I was enjoying the hell out of watching the Lakers barely tread water.

Unfortunately some good things just don't last long enough.

They'll play 8 on 5 every year in the playoffs as well.

What if we offer nothing for Gasol from the Lakers? I mean, it's the same price value. Maybe we throw in Magloire. Irresistable.

They are going to be almost unstoppable. You get a guy like Gasol, Bynum or Odom off the bench? This is great talent. Just think if they snag a great pg next year. Fisher is good and has been clutch and even this Farmar looks like good young talent but this team is now stacked and if they pick up a Williams, Paul, or a good pg for years to come this team is set for along time. They probably can win it all with what they have now.

It was talk they must trade Bynum, as everyone wants him and they said no, we will never trade him. Then it was Odom and maybe Walton had to be traded to get some pieces for Kobe. They traded nothing and they kept everyone and look how good and possibly great they are. Odom is good when he is not asked to be the star. Walton is solid on what he does. Bynum and Gasol can flat out score in the paint with Bynum rebounding. We all know what Kobe can do.

The Spurs must get some good young big paint players soon to match LA. They are going to get old like us, if they are not careful. The Hornets is a threat to the Lakers but they might need another big man in the middle to help Chandler. Paul makes most players he plays with stars. Same with Kobe. If Ming and McGrady could stay healthy and get just a lil more bench, they possibly could threaten them. Utah is dangerous as well. Utah needs another big paint man to help Boozer but they are good.

No ones completely unstoppable, but i'd but an incredibly large sum of money that our team as it is right now sure as well won't be the ones to do the stopping.

I don't think they'll be any more unstoppable the Suns or Spurs of recent years. Very tough, but not "unstoppable."

The Lakers aren't unstoppable, but it will take some luck and good GM work for Dallas to have a shot at them, IMO.

I could be remembering this wrong, but wasn't their schedule for the first half of the season a lot tougher than their schedule for the second half of the season. I thought they had something like the toughest schedule in the NBA for the first half of the season.

If so, that record with Gasol might be a little deceptive. They'll be good next year though, no question about it. Still, guys like Chris Paul might have something to say about the Lakers being unstoppable.

Our average age is 29? The only players that get on the floor are all over 30 though. Not sure about Dirk. Not sure if he's 29 or 30.

I think they're pretty much unstoppable this year. Add Bynum next year and I'm thinking 70 wins is very possible.

Just adding the injured players doesn't necessarily make the Lakers a better team. There are only so many minutes per game and if Ariza an Bynum come back who sits the bench?

Expected Starting 5
Bynum
Gasol
Odom
Bryant
Fisher

Bench
Farmar
Ariza
Walton
Vujacic
Turiaf
Radmanovic
DJ
Mihm

So does Turiaf become expendable? How about Luke Walton? Radmanovic? Vujacic? DJ or Mihm? Realistically at least of couple of these players are going to traded or let go imo.

DJ is only on the team cuz of the Bynum injury. Mihm won't be getting any PT.

Yeah, it is probably a little skewed since Wright is 24 and Barea is 23 and they get no PT. Magloire is 29 as well, which is "young" by this team's standards :P

Barring injuries, the Lakers should be the best in the WC for a few years. Teams like the Spurs and Mavs are just one key player from being on the same level as anyone in basketball. The Suns IMO are in a tougher situation, Nash and Shaq are on their last legs and they need more of a reload than an aquisition.

The Blazers, Jazz, Rockets and Hornets will challange the Lakers with the players they have now, their is no clear path to a title for the Lakers this year or next. I have been a Laker fan for over 20 years and I do not think they are a lock this year let alone next. Not to mention the Spurs seem to play possum one year and then steamroll to the title the next.

I've thought the Lakers this year are very good on offense and slightly above average on defense.

With Bynum/Ariza their offense shouldn't get better, but their defense may become great.

Perhaps the best offensive team in the NBA next year and one of the top 2-3 defensive teams.

I really hope I'm wrong though, for the Mavs sake of winning a title.
