Democrats provide potential terrorists cover
Pretty sad really. So now if you see someone who you think might be a terrorist...you'd better shut the hell up or said terrorist will sue your ass.
I really cannot understand why in the world even nutty democrats would be against this.
Quote:
Congressional Democrats today failed to include a provision in homeland security legislation that would protect the public from being sued for reporting suspicious behavior that may lead to a terrorist attack, according to House Republican leaders.
“This is a slap in the face of good citizens who do their patriotic duty and come forward, and it caves in to radical Islamists,” said Rep. Peter T. King, New York Republican and ranking member of the House Homeland Security Committee.

You believe not allowing a lawsuit is a sign of a "big government??" I think you are a little confused here imo.

Yea contact them and tell them not to go on vacation until they get the surveillance bill passed. It's already been a month since we haven't been able to monitor terrorist communications.
Just another case of the dems choosing stupidity over safety.

you just don't eve LOOK at the issues, do you?
The disagreement right now is on oversight. THe dems want an independent court set up to review/approve requests, while the reps want this authority to rest within the executive branch, in the Justice dept.
Yes, once again dems are proposing giving away explosives to anyone who claims to be a terrorist.

What has he done? Be specific and provide links. I think you are drinking some kool-aid.

Sure I do...But will be honest that I haven't looked at this one that closely. I am sure that the congress is about to go into recess after more than a month where we haven't been able to monitor potential terrorist communications.
It is my "opinion" that most on the left would just as soon let this expire completely except the dems are going to be called on it if they don't do something about it.

Guess the senate isn't quite as upset about this as you are mcsluggo, 60-28....wonder what they were waiting on, must not be too controversial...or maybe that vacation sounds good?
But kudos to the congress for getting this done before they go on vacation. Should have already been done but they must not have wanted to go on their vacation without doing this for some reason?

The Senate bowed to White House pressure last night and passed a Republican plan for overhauling the federal government's terrorist surveillance laws, approving changes that would temporarily give U.S. spy agencies expanded power to eavesdrop on foreign suspects without a court order.
The 60 to 28 vote, which was quickly denounced by civil rights and privacy advocates, came after Democrats in the House failed to win support for more modest changes that would have required closer court supervision of government surveillance. Earlier in the day, President Bush threatened to hold Congress in session into its scheduled summer recess if it did not approve the changes he wanted.

Likewise, civil liberties advocates said they were outraged that Democratic-led Senate would side with the White House.
``We're hugely disappointed with the Democrats,'' said Caroline Fredrickson, legislative director for the American Civil Liberties Union. ``The idea they let themselves be manipulated into accepting the White House proposal, certainly taking a great deal of it, when they're in control - it's mind-boggling.''

I have a feeling that things like the quote below changed some dems minds on this.
Quote:
"Al-Qaida is not going on vacation this month," said Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky. "And we can't either until we know we've done our duty to the American people."
