I'm watching The Patriot right now.. Gibson just rescued his son from the dirty British.. Anyways, Gibson is absolutely awesome. I know it's not a great movie by any strech of the imagination.. but the anger and violence in him is breathtaking.

Also watched Apocalypto and The Beaver recently. There's almost always a slow boil at the very least in most of his charactes. It's really a joy to watch. Yeah, it probably underlies the numerous problems the guy has.. but it's awesome on the screen.

Not sure if you are being sarcastic here or not, but I'll bite. The hatchet scene is pretty powerful in that movie and he has always been one of my favorite actors. I'm on record that my favorite movie of all time is Braveheart. Just loved the emotion. He does have a very, very intense side to him. Watching him ride on the horse back and forth trying to piss off his opposition to ultimately force a battle had me wanting to suit up. Same with the Patriot - you could watch a few of his movies and find yourself signing up for some military action.

Obviously he is fucking crazy - but that aside, he really is a fantastic actor.

I liked The Patriot. It is the war movie for all ages with the kinda Hallmark movie emotions. Good cinematography, good acting, ok plot considering the inaccuracies, very good bad guy (Jason Isaac's best film), so it's just kinda fun at the end of the day. Not a movie you take very seriously and just go with it.

Nope..I'm being serious. Intense/angry Mel Gibson in front of or behind the camera is a pretty damn good thing in my opinion.

The scene where is angry at his kids and brother in "Signs" and just starts eating all the food is pretty dang strong. He can convey brokenness as well just about any actor.
*Maybe there is a good reason for that?*

Ya Mel Gibson is a little unstable sure, he's not a perfect human being. We don't know what happened behind the scenes with that broad, plenty of guys and girls are driven crazy by their significant other for one reason or another. If we had all of our lives under a microscope I'm sure we wouldn't look at that swell either.

He is a fantastic actor, and actually a fantastic filmmaker as well. A truly special talent in Hollywood, and his opinions and manic behaviour make him who he is, so I'd never want to see him change that.
