I'm just so proud of our boys in blue
The heartbreaking 2-7 start
Looking like a 9th place team in mid January
Looking like an 8th place 1st round sacrifice to the Lakers all teh way untilt he last week of the regular season.
And now we're out of the 1st round?!
Great resiliency by the boys in blue.
What a difference it makes when J-Ho plays like the J-Ho of 05-07.
What a performance by the TEAM this series! Who on the team played truly bad? I would say nobody really. Terry had a little slump the first 4 games but hit some big shots tonight. Kidd/Barea/Howard were consistent. Dirk had a stinker, but had two quietly efficient games and a MONSTER game tonight.
Even Wright accepted his rule and hit some pretty big shots in Game 1 and 4.
I'm just so proud of our boys in blue

Man what a feeling! Great tenacity shown by our boys tonight. I am really proud of them and especially JHo, who put his team before him at every step and it paid off for the Mavs.
All you guys who commented on Rick Carlisle are spot on. He is not a perfect coach by any means but he is exactly the type of coach Mavs needed. So Kudos to Donnie and Cuban on that.
Also, you guys should just celebrate now and worry about Denver when they actually advance to the second round. Untill then, I am basking it all in

Awesome win tonight. It feels good to be a Mav fan.
Killer instinct in full force... and it's name was Dirk Nowitzki.

Anyone still think we should've tanked the end of the season to get a better lottery pick???

Unfortunately that was from yesterday, so based on that we should've seen something today....we didn't though.

Did Kidd got allready the MLE-Call from Phil Jackson?
Lakers are the only team that is a real threat. Boston, Cavs, Magic have Allstars on his position. He can take 1-2 years Cubans money, starting on a good playoff team (maybe contender with another good move) and then he can go 2010 or 11 to Lebron, Kobe or where he wants
Not worried

It's true that I called for him after we lost to Golden State. I'll crow for that. But after the Mavs finally fired Avery, he wasn't only the best choice, he was really the only choice. I mean, what other coaches were available? D'antoni? Larry Brown? There was nobody else out there that had as much experience as Carlisle without excess baggage.

Kinda bugs me that you go on espn and sportsline's nba page and you see Paul Pierce and the Celtics winning are the main story. That series isnt even over. Mavs eliminating the Spurs and ending their dynasty is by far the bigger story.

Agreed, but also, that whole "let's tank" would be a wuss-ass, loser mentality even if the Mavs had gotten swept in this series. Play to win, or don't even bother showing up.

Reminded me of when Adrian Griffin dunked at the buzzer of Game 6 of the 2006 WCF at Phoenix. It was awesome.

Kidd closes the door on Spurs ... but not everyone else
By Art Garcia, NBA.com
Posted Apr 29 2009 2:16AM
SAN ANTONIO -- Six years later, Jason Kidd promises to go with his head and not his heart.
That may not be good news for the freshly-minted Western Conference semifinalists. When he hits free agency this time, the suitors may again feature an NBA champion. Back then, it was the Spurs. This summer, the Lakers or Cavaliers might come knocking on his door.
The rest of the circumstances don't exactly line up. Now, he's 36. He's no longer considered the crème of the point guard crop. Chris Paul leads the league's pantheon of playmakers guards now, along with Deron Williams, and the man Kidd almost replaced in San Antonio.
Tony Parker couldn't have had a better series, and Kidd let him know as much after Tuesday night's 106-93 clincher that sent the Mavericks to the second round for the first time in three years. Dallas awaits the Nuggets-Hornets winner, with Denver holding a commanding 3-1 lead going into tomorrow's Game 5 at Denver.
"With everything we've gone through this season," Kidd said, "we still have a good chance to compete for the Western Conference."
The Spurs denied Kidd and the Nets in their second shot at a title in 2003. Kidd didn't exactly return the favor this year, since San Antonio wasn't going to win a title with Manu Ginobili sidelined. Instead, Kidd has taken part in what some are calling the end of the dynastic-like run here.
(No, the Spurs were never a dynasty, not that Gregg Popovich and Co. care about such a distinction. And don't think for a second their window has closed. A healthy Tim Duncan and Ginobili, a couple of roster tweaks and they're right back in the hunt next season.)
Kidd will be back, too, but Big D might not be home. His second incarnation with the Mavericks hasn't been without controversy, though much of the Devin Harris backlash has died down. The Harris-led Mavs lost in the first round in his first full season as a starter despite being the top seed in the West.
Kidd has them in the semis as a sixth seed. If the Mavericks continue to trend up with the multi-faceted attack the sunk the Spurs in five games, the West finals aren't a stretch. Would such a postseason run play into Kidd's decision to sign with Dallas?
"I'm going into it with an open mind and see what comes up," he said. "There could be some great situations again, so maybe this time I'll think with my mind and not my heart."
Kidd can't help but wonder what might have been had he signed a different team's contract in 2003. The Spurs, from Popovich on down, did everything right in their recruitment, Kidd said. He decided to stay in New Jersey, saying that "loyalty" was a factor and believing the Nets were on the brink. That changed with Kenyon Martin's exit.
The Spurs remained a title contender, and Kidd counted up the rings he passed up.
"Maybe I would have had two," he said. "Maybe or I might have messed it up. I don't think I could have messed up throwing the ball to Tim and Tony and Ginobili."
Kidd doesn't think his arrival in San Antonio would have pushed Parker out. Parker thought otherwise, figuring he would have eventually been traded. Kidd's flirtation with the Spurs did give him maximum bargaining power against New Jersey, and his willingness to look elsewhere this summer could drive the price up in Dallas.
The Mavericks' front office expects a number of teams to come after Kidd this time, despite his age and production. But his impact has never been strictly measured by stats, which coincidently were the worst of his career this season. And it's not about athleticism. As someone who's never played above the rim, Kidd hardly missed a beat or lost a step after microfracture surgery earlier this decade.
Kidd is still quick enough and smart enough to double-back on an outlet pass, steal the ball and coax a foul out of Roger Mason late in the third quarter of Game 4. Kidd's two 3-pointers in the last two minutes of Tuesday's third quarter, including one at the horn, turned back a Spurs' charge and staked Dallas to a 15-point lead.
Popovich has admired Kidd since his high school days in Oakland, adding he "does those Ginobili things." The perfectly timed burst going into the fourth quarter all but cooked the Spurs, and were the last points Kidd would score in a 41-minute outing. He finished with a cool dozen, all off 3-pointers, as six Mavs scored in double figures. Dirk Nowitzki, the MVP teammate he never had in New Jersey, scored 31.
"They made stops and had little runs of their own," Popovich said. "That's why they won the series 4-1."
Kidd didn't have to dominate this series as Parker did. Had Kidd spent the last six years in Silver & Black, "That would have been a great ride to be part of." But he won't let finally besting the Spurs in the postseason factor into his July thinking.
Asked to put odds on a return to the city of his NBA birth, Kidd politely declines. "I can't," he said. "I wouldn't even know how to handicap it, but I like it in Dallas."
He liked New Jersey, too. Sometimes the heart is wrong.

This really is a huge moment for this team taking this series. That might be a bold statement to make considering this team was in the finals a couple of years ago but it's still true.
The point is we closed a series out. This was a crossroad kind of series for the Mavs. It doesn't matter that the Spurs didn't have Ginobili, they're still the Spurs and they can still find ways to beat you. Potentially looking at 3 years in a row with first round exits would definitely seal this team's fate. But look at how they did it, it was a team effort. They tried to take Dirk and Jet out and they dared our bench guys to beat us, and they pretty much did. Damp did some solid work on Duncan and Josh was very huge in the series. Even in the close-out game, itself, you see a major glimmer of hope. This team had the chance to take a night off or use the fall-back plan for Friday in Dallas. They took the other path and showed the killer instinct to take a team out. They built up double digit leads multiple times and the proud Spurs team kept fighting back and almost put the Mavs on their heels. It could have been moments where the Mavs could should their bad side and curl up and be "that team" that can't close a series. Instead they showed lots of poise, heart, and confidence and closed them out.
Our Mavericks were at the crossroads of the franchise with the 3-1 lead and a collapse with the series would've met major doom. The old Mavs might have blown that lead, but this new team didn't let that happen. This team took a different path. We've seen over the past month or so this team show tons of heart, lots of fight, and a lot of poise and smarts. They've got a lot of confidence, but it's a good, quiet confidence. They also believe and know they can win a series, that's big. It's hard not to believe in the Mavs right now. You know it's going to be a totally different series going in to Round 2, but you have to believe Carlisle is going to have this team prepared.
The different path knocked out the Spurs quickly and put them on the road to Round 2. I don't know where the last exit is for this new path, but I do know that we are all along for the ride.

I'm just glad our guys finally won a series despite being torched by a guard. It's not really fair that we're still positioned to face Paul or Billups, and then Kobe if we beat the odds. So there's still gonna be that shtick that we can't beat guards if/when we lose one of the next two rounds.

I was reading some of the post game comments and thought this was great from Jason Kidd:
On being "under the radar" - “If we win a championship we may still manage to stay under the radar. They might just find a way to put an asterisk by it. That’s what you guys do.”

Spurs can suck it....
Man Roger Mason was HORRIBLE. I had heard good things from this kid during the regular season. I think it's safe to say that he and Matt Bonner won't be back next season haha.
Mavs in 5. I like the sound of that.
Go Mavs

solid series we can build upon. The denver games will come down to the wire quite often - the sweep of the regular season doesn't mean much - 3 games were very close and there were a lot of injuries.

hey everyone. long-time mavs fan here (i'm a mere 25 years old, but my fanship dates back to the 3 j's), but first-time poster on these boards. i have no idea why it took me this long to think of looking for a mavs forum.
ANYWAY.....great game mavs! my dad will back this up, but i totally called this one. in addition, i predicted either dirk or terry would break out (of course, BOTH did in this one!). as difficult as being a mavs fan has become over the last few years, all that heartache seemed to melt away at around 11pm last night (even if only for a little while). this has indeed been a strange season, and i have a suspicion (that i'm not even necessarily willing to acknowledge all that loudly) that perhaps the mavs aren't done!
i look forward to getting to know each of you and GO MAVS!!!
