It's extremely hard not to get excited at the idea. Twenty-four rebounds two nights in a row is insanity.

Nice post i saw on RealGM
Quote:
Probably been said already, but (IMO anyway) the reason he hasn't been dealt is because Orlando are correctly taking a strong stance on it.
You're never going to get fair value if you deal a superstar. Does anyone really think that a deal of the quality of Brook Lopez + picks and cap relief won't be available later on? Of course it will. By waiting, the Magic leave certain options open:
1) That they have a good enough start to the season to convince Dwight to stay. Long shot, but you never know.
2) By waiting until after January 1st, Dwight loses his ability to take his Bird rights with him in any trade. From a financial common sense perspective, Dwight would at least consider opting into the final year of his deal in that scenario, either to give Orlando more time to improve, or more likely as a means to grease the wheels for a trade - lets say Dwight's camp lets everyone know in March that he will opt-in to the final year of his contract in order to facilitate a trade. From his perspective it makes sense because he retains the option to make max money. From Orlando's perspective it helps because more teams would then be willing to gamble on him, knowing they had the remainder of this year and all of next year to convince him that their franchise was right for him long term.
3) As they wait, other teams' packages will change based on their situation. For instance, if New Jersey continues to lose, their own draft pick they are offering in the deal becomes much more valuable (especially if they are willing to remove any protection from it). If the Lakers have a bad run, maybe they decide parting with both Bynum and Gasol would be worth it long term, etc.
4) As stated above, if all else fails, and Dwight and Fegan play hardball and let the Magic know he is opting out no matter what and he has to be traded before the deadline for Orlando to get something in return, they will still be able to get value similar to Lopez/picks/cap relief.
Basically, I just don't get the suggestion that the Magic should have caved and traded him the instant his request came in. Dwight is to good of a guy to play the role of locker room cancer, and he's made a solid start to the year (first and only player apart from Dennis Rodman to have back-to-back 24+ rebounds games in the last 25 years, for example). It wasn't like people offered amazing packages when it emerged he had requested a move. Orlando have little to lose by waiting things out until the deadline.

Postgame interview quote from Deron Williams:
"But you could go somewhere in Florida or Texas and you’re not losing 8% state tax, plus you don’t have a city tax."
Seems like a thinly veiled reference to Dallas and Orlando.

Avery is starting Sundiata Gaines over Marshon Brooks, he is also playing Deron significant minutes at the 2.

Seeing Deron's recent comments, I can't see him staying in NJ unless they trade for dwight with the assets they don't have.

I think with Bynum playing that well it's getting more and more likely that the Magic won't find anybody to pick up Howard. Only way that Lakers would be willing to part with Bynum right now is if health issues will start to pop up again and then the Magic won't be interested any longer.
Not looking too bad right now.

I don't know about that, and I would argue the opposite - I think it would make a Bynum for Howard deal all the more likely. As far as I understand, I think the Lakers have always been willing to deal Bynum for Howard straight up, but Magic have wanted Gasol as a throw-in. Bynum is obviously going to dip a little bit from his monstrous start, but if he can show that he's improved and the Magic have no other suitors, I think a Bynum for Howard deal would look pretty tempting. As for the Lakers side, they obviously believe Bynum is a really good player, but I don't think 3 games is going to suddenly convince the Lakers that he has suddenly surpassed Howard. Nor do I see Bynum being considered Howard's equal or better by the trade deadline.

Warriors "aggressively" pursuing Dwight, would be willing to trade for him without an extension:
http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_yl...arriors_010512
That wouldn't be a bad scenario. Makes D-Will to the Mavs at least fairly likely, and still leaves the possibility of wooing Dwight next summer.

and even if he stays with GS they aren't near the contenders LA would be with Dwight. But if I was orlando I would want more than just Curry and 2014 first rounder.

yea, that's the phenomenon with this thing. It's like you force your way out, but they don't realize that in trade, you're gutting the team you're going to. Look what happened to Deron Williams to NJ. Utah's a ways a way, but they look in better shape 2 years from now, then NJ does. Now New York's starting to feel the same outside of their 2 and a half stars, there's little else.

Apparently someone close to D-Will is surmising that he's "not feeling it" in NJ (no surprise). This person says he wouldn't be surprised to see D-Will head to Dallas:

Utah's having some ups and downs, but they're making progress in general. So guess Harris and Howard's gushy BFF reunion is working out.

Don't understand what Utah is doing. I would have traded both Jefferson and Millsap, and start Kanter and Favors. Rolling out with a Harris-Brooks-Hayward-Favors-Kanter lineup, sucking real bad, but improve my young guys, and i have Davis or Drummond next summer. Possible the best frontcourt in the NBA in 4 years. Now the youngsters aren't improving much, and there will be 5-6 teams with a better chance at the top 2 pick.

Dwight Howard's request to be traded still stands, and the Orlando Magic's general manager doesn't feel the team has done much to change the superstar's mind.
"Nothing has changed," Howard said before the Magic faced the Sacramento Kings at Power Balance Pavilion on Sunday.
Otis Smith confirmed Howard has not taken his trade request off the table and that Howard's agent still has permission to speak with three, and only three, teams: the Dallas Mavericks, the Los Angeles Lakers and the New Jersey Nets.
"I think his leaving or going has nothing to do with Orlando," Smith said of Howard. "I think he wants a bigger market. I can't do anything about that."
Howard revealed he has spoken with some NBA players, including Carmelo Anthony, to see how they've dealt with similar situations.
"I've talked to 'Melo," Howard said. "I've talked to a lot of guys.
"It's the same thing: You have to do what's best for you, regardless of what anybody else says. It's your life and you have to live it your way. You can't do it how everybody wants you to do it or be afraid or be upset about what people are saying, because they're not the ones that have to go through it. Sometimes, you've got to make tough decisions, and you've got to always take care of you and your family first, because nobody else will."
|
Sucks. The Magic gonna fold at the deadline and trade him either for Bynum or Lopez. He is making it too clear that he wont stay in Orlando.
So lets hope the Magic like Bynum and the WC more than Lopez and Deron&Dwight in the EC. There is just no way we coulld put any package together that beats Bynum or Lopez.
DDD wont happen. Lets pray for Deron.

I assume Lopez wouldn't be the draw. It's the very high lotto picks.
Given the report of the Magic wanting to win now as oppose to go through a full rebuild, because of their owner's age and having committed money to JRich and Big Baby, Bynum is probably the winning offer.
Unless some vet-centric win-now package *cough cough* comes in with the swoop.

Steve Kyler NBA insider says it is looking likely that magic won't trade dwight and are rather looking around to try to improve their team.

Eh, they should trade either Millsap or Jefferson for sure but Kantar is no where near ready for 30 minutes a game, so far he has been a good rebounder but pretty much sucked at everything else. He has to get stronger with his lack of athletic ability; there is no way he weighs 260+ and lots of his weight is fat.

1) Trade Haywood to Houston for Battier's trade exception.
2) Package TE/Odom/Mahinmi/Roddy/etc for Howard.
3) Amnesty Marion this summer.
4) Sign Deron Williams.
5)

You have to amnesty Marion if you want to sign Deron outright.
Dirk + Dwight + Deron = Dynasty
Every ringless free agent in the league would be breaking their necks to play in Dallas for peanuts-on-the-dollar...

Wade and LeBron operate in the same space - Dirk (perimeter), Dwight (paint) and Deron (distributor) don't... And none of them would be a third wheel like Bosh.
