The NBA three ball
30 years ago (83-84) the average nba team took 195 threes per season. This season we are on pace for the average team shooting 1750.

I just don't think younger players are groomed to play defense like they once were. Players that can ONLY shoot threes or shoot in general can make a niche in the NBA.

Read from someone's twitter a couple weeks ago that the 3 counts for 25% of field goals this season. New record. The art of the jumpshot has left basketball for the most part. Which is another reason I love Dirk so much.

Threeballs are more efficient, specifically corner ones. There are many analytic pieces on the topic. Hint: Spurs master the art of corner threes.

If it were up to me, I'd get rid of the three-ball.
I'd also make weekends three-days, and designate Monday IceCream and Cake day. |

I don't understand why more threes would make NBA games less attractive. So in the 80s they shot tons of hook shots. Was that more attractive? Btw, are there any statistics showing how many hook shots are taken today compared to back then? I would think that defensive strategies will counter the three-point threat over time, maybe teams will draft more players who are better perimeter defenders. I would just sit back and see how the style of play develops over time. I think long distance shots are very attractive. Dirk's and Durant's high arcing threes are really nice to watch. Oh yes, and I love to see the 3's of Stephen Curry.

its pretty simple really.
average FG% 45 average 3P% 36 per 100 shots FG = 90 points per 100 shots 3pt = 108 points this is the philosophy Daryl Morey and so many other stat geeks are preaching... shots in paint for high percentages and high chance of drawing fouls or just throw it out for the 3 pt shot. those options give you the highest probability to put the most points up on the board. whats great is this worked well in the regular season but watching aldridge tear the rockets a new one completely throws this philosophy out the window. thats why the game is played!
