I certainly don't believe they're going to do anything this season, but how can you not be excited about Hamilton, Murphy, Boggs, Kinsler, Chris Davis, etc.

If Hurley wasn't sucking worse than suck itself, and McCarthy weren't built like a china doll I would be on Cloud 9. Right now I'm on about Cloud 7.

Oh there's no way.

I am intrigued by Hamilton and Murphy. I actually watched a little baseball today!

When the Stars let the Rangers have Tom Hicks' plane back in a few days, they're going to be even better

I'm more excited about Max Ramirez than Chris Davis, at this point. Ramirez could probably DH in the majors right now. Davis, I think, still has a lot of work to do. I'm not sure he'll be ready by Opening Day '09, much as I'd like him to be.

According to the Star Telegram, Blalock is officially a first baseman, as of today. A permanent move, according to him, and he's all for it.

The only way this makes sense is if the long term plan is to move Mike Young to third, which is a good idea.

However, the timing is weird. There's no way Vazques is going to keep up his current level of production, so I don't see how they think Blalock+Vazquez/Duran is a better combination than Blalock+Cat/Shelton.

And of course long term the Rangers have three potentially huge bats getting close to the bigs, and they all play first base.

Weird, weird timing.

I wonder why that is. During the games, you could hear "Let's Go Astros" clearly, and the stadium HAD to be 60-40, with the Astros having 40%.

Which makes me wonder just how permanent it is.. I know it's permanent right now, but how permanent is it when MadMax or Chris Davis get ready for the big leagues? Or, do they plan on moving Davis back to third? If so, then why move Blalock to first to begin with? Unless they plan on moving Blalock to another team.... but, whey would Blalock be the catalyst to this switch then?...

It could make the team a better team this year. I know Vazquez has made 5 errors or so this year, but he and Blalock on the field together will make the team better defensively than being forced to put Shelton/Cat at first.

After thinking about it I can only assume that this was mainly motivated by defense. Blalock had really become a liability defensively at third.

It's also possible that he thinks he has a better chance of staying healthy at first, and he wants to stay on the field.

Long term, I think the organization agreed to it because they want to move Mike Young to third.

im ok with blalock moving to first for now. If davis is good enough to worry about blocking him(and i think he is) then it wont matter because he'll force his way onto the field. Mad max will be a dh that can be a 3rd catcher and first basemen and probably fill in a little in the outfield if need be. He'll provide some roster flexibility because he should be a front line dh that could also catch for a couple of weeks if he really needed to. I assume JMJ is the third guy you are thinking about jthig? He'll be an outfielder long term. i know he just started playing first again but i doubt seriously its permanent.

as for hurley, he seems to be figuring it out. Mostly he was experimenting with a changeup early and has scrapped it to go to a fastball/slider/splitter rep. Also for the first time since he was really young his plus plus velocity has been back recently as he was hitting 97 recently. He'll be fine.

I love josh hamilton, but good lord berkman is on fire.

btw on the rangers when you start looking at all stars it sure looks like the rangers have 4 locks plus young who could maybe go. Man thats crazy.

I can only assume he's talking about those four, yeah.

And yes, I was referencing JMJ, and that's fair about him being an outfielder long term. Just seems odd that he just moved to first, no?

As of this minute, Josh Hamilton is:

1. Leading the AL in Batting Average.
2. Tied for the AL lead in HR's.
3. Leading the majors in RBI's.

Beast.
