Kidd going stale?
When Kidd first came to the Mav's there was alot of ball movement for him to get the ball to the right people. It was exciting to watch. This year I have only seen it a few times. It seems like he is settling back into the same mode he did before the playoffs last year. His assists are down and he only has one triple double this year. He just doesn't seem to be pushing the ball as much. Then again you have to have people that can catch the ball and do something with it. The mav's can't work with that type of player. They all have to get their shots their own way. It seem that JJB has been the real leader during the winning streak. It looked like Kidd took a back seat to him when they were playing together. I may be wrong but that is what I am seeing. Any thoughts?

Probably the smartest post you have ever had. Underrated musical Chess was.
Kidd is fine. I'd honestly rather have him let Barea grow into his role in case Kidd bolts this summer. Still can't believe Barea had 8 rebounds against Portland, 4 offensive.

I've said it all along. Kidd is mentoring Barea.

There are two reasons for Kidd's decline in assists.
1) The offense has changed since the begining of the season because they weren't winning games, even though Kidd was putting up good assist numbers. In the new system, Kidd doesn't necessarily pass to the shooter but to the guy who finds the shooter (hockey assists).
2) Barea is seeing more play time with Kidd on the floor, which moves Kidd out of the point guard position because of his size to guard other positions
Despite all that, Kidd does everything else exceptionaly well other than shooting a high percentage (which he only does on occasion). His high IQ and scrappy defense in the 4th quarter are the reasons Mavs are holding onto leads in the 4th or have come back from deficit to win games recently.

I think you're right. Barea has been doing more and more Kidd like things as the year goes on.

And some... I like that he attacks without fear of rejection! Like I did chasing my wife. But really, Thats how you get the job done...Without fear. Attack attack attack. Kidd could learn some things from him as well. Another note, I love how aggressive Kidd is at shooting the 3 ball (and the 2.5ball , just wish he would attack more.

It never gets old.
I'll take kidd's defense and court awareness over his offense any day.

Everybody knows Terry is an offensive clutch player, well Kidd is our best defensive clutch player and if not one of the best in the league.

I can think of three things:
1. They switched from a MOTION OFFENSE where Kidd finds Dirk/Terry/Howard off a screen, and now the majority of the plays are PICK AND ROLLS. Can't argue with the result since it got more wins. But I do wish Kidd has more time with the ball, instead of just passing once after crossing the halfcourt line and waiting for a three.
2. Dallas isn't running as much as early in the season. Kidd still finds streaking Terry now and then, but he doesn't push the ball as often.
3. Barea has become dependable, and even relied upon to create plays. Kidd defers a little too much to Barea I think.

Kidd is just another weapon in Carlisle's back pocket. Right now, Barea has been a pleasant surprise for all concerned, he's doing many PG things at this point, breaking down the defense, forcing the D to chase the rock. When you get that started a missed jack becomes loose, because there are not many defenders blocking out for the rebound, thus Barea snaking his body in for the o boards.
When the situation breeds a talent like Kidd, Carlisle will whip it out, ala the pick and roll between Bass and Barea on XMas day. Howard should pick up a thing or 2 from Kidd about deferring, working as a team. Kidd isn't about stats, he's about the W's and the easiest way to get it. Right now, it's allowing Barea to create in the half court and Kidd to create on the break.

One more post for Diop and one for Wright/Green and we are set. Ever since these posts started to pop up Dirk started pouring 25+ regularly, Howard has hade some throwback games, and Kidd just played one of the most perfect games I have ever seen.

Somehow I've been posting trash about Devean George, but he never did become otherworldly
And Kidd, please forgive me.

They didn't have the same ZIP as the one on Sunday, but the end results were so sweet.
They showed the replay of the Clipper one...man, he was sick with the spin he put on the ball. A genius with the basketball.

haha.. every time a thread like this is made the player goes off the next night.
Coincidence? Or are our beloved Mavs Dallas-Mavs.com viewers?
And honestly, Kidd is the last person to complain about. His seasonal stats might not jump out at you, but he's been pretty awesome for this club. The guy has one of the highest basketball IQ's in the game.

I'm a believer that Kidd's many contributions don't show up at the boxscores. But its not just the assist and rebound numbers - the last few games he didn't assert himself.. but tonight, he did. Oh hell yeah he did.

I think just trashing George and Diop in other threads won't do. Create a new thread for these guys.

Man that wasn't just a dunk. That was all heart. That was his best play since being back, by far! If only we could get that consistently...
Kidd was/is great. I love to watch him play the way he did last night, aggressive! No fear baby.
