NBA Season 18-19: General Thread
Tatum is sooo talented, but I just can't help but wonder about a bit of killer mentality. He has nearly everything to be a star, but I'm not fully convinced yet.

JJJ looks lost, and his team doesn't know how to get him the ball.

Trae did have one good offensive game and even though his eFG has been bad, it’s his defense that is something else. It’s been a while since I’ve seen a player abused that bad and I’m not even sure what he can do to improve.
JJb drawing of fouls? Otherwise his instincts are terrible, his frame is too small to get much stronger, and his size combined with poor wingspan mean that he will never have the length of the 2018+ NBA. Hardaway Jr is just abusing him over and over

They had him on Hardaway Jr? That should be Baze or Prince. Trae should guard Trey or Frank.

Rockets got smoked by the Pelicans... Melo with a horrendous -20, only to be outdone by Harden's -23.

I see Towns is still trash on defense picking up those three fouls early and fouling out in 22 minutes!
Butler is nuckin futz, but he is right about why that team is garbage other than him.

Lakers (in loss to Trailblazers) 3PT - made 7 of 31 for 23.3%
Their roster has no outside shooters. Won't get it done in today's NBA.

And three of those made were in the last 2 1/2 minutes in basic desperation mode. They were effectively 4 or 28 for the game. They look surprisingly good with movement, defense, and rebounding but they have zero outside shooting.
Portland's Nik Stauskas was playing out of his mind too. He averaged 4.4 ppg last year and was raining threes going 7/11 and getting 24 points.

That’s kind of odd. Rick might get jealous. Maybe we’ll see some Wes at the 5 again?

Bamba does look raw and seems to lose interest in games...two fair criticisms of him before the draft. He is getting torched by Embiid.
He and JJJ will take some time, but I still think they'll both be really good.

Love the brawl in Staples. The league really needs more dudes legitimately hating each other. Weak crowd reaction though, but you don't expect too much from NBA fans these days anyway.

Someone should hit Harden every time he flops. The whole league could collude ala the nfl owners with Kaepernick.
Watching Rondo and Cliff Paul fight though...talk about conflicting emotions. Is there any way they can both die during? Judging by the “punches” thrown it might take awhile.

Did you see Jokic destroy Ayton? Triple double, shot 100%, 35 points, 11 assists, 12 rebounds to Ayton's 5 points...

I'd pay double to sit in an arena to watch Paul and Rondo fight versus watching either of those teams play basketball.

Finished with 35 and 11 with 1 TO and 6-14 from three. Going to be tough for any rookie to have a ceiling game like that this year.

On the other hand, Young was the one to most likely have these games due to him being a volume shooter. If he catches fire against a bad team (Cavs), sky's the limit. He also bricked some shots from way downtown badly. That's what you get from him.
I was more impressed with his playmaking tbh. Some nice assists and only one turnover.

Very true. Even if he turns out to be a complete bust he always had the opportunity for at least a few of these types of games. He’s an interesting case for sure.

Luka is higher in the standings than LeBron, Harden, or Westbrook.

KCP looks like crap, although on that thrown together around Lebron Lakers team, it's hard to judge talent. Still, I was a big fan of him replacing Wes, and he looks terrible two games in.

You would think he would learn from KD on that one. KD didn't mess around with this "let's build a new team" thing that Lebron likes to do. Especially at Lebron's age. There is a pretty long list of teams Lebron should have gone to over the Lakers.
Frankly...Lebron looked a little old last night. He lost a pretty routine rebound from a guy behind him that he normally snags with ease. And he looked winded all night. This might the year Father Time finally gets him.

I just like how he can call timeout, when he doesn't have one, in the middle of the court with 5 seconds left without a ref seeing it supposedly. He still looks dominant to me but yeah he will have to be superhuman or they will have to make some trades to get to the playoffs with that shitty ass defense. Honestly if Lebron would just be committed to defense they'd go to the playoffs. He's huge, and for some reason Kuzma is playing the 5 over him, when McGee is off the floor, so he can stand there on the weak side and ball watch.
Speaking of Kuzma, wow. I don't watch laker games often but I keep hearing about Ingram being untouchable but Kuzma looks like by far their best player not named Lebron.

Not quite. TMac would sit in the fourth and refuse to go into the game.

Love Griffin posterizing Embiid who is quickly becoming a hated player in this league. Guy talks a lot of trash.

Hopefully he gets fined for that flop that got Drummond ejected. That was a terrible call. Are those not reviewable?

@TheSteinLine: The Rockets say James Harden (hamstring) will miss the next two games. Following an MRI this morning, Harden was diagnosed with a Grade 1-Plus left hamstring strain.
