I honestly like Lauri, just not as a top 10 pick and not over those guards, if they were gone and we traded down and got him I wouldn't care.

I concur tho, burn the house down buddy murdock style if they choose him over the guards.

Now, if they take Lauri over one of those three, then you can burn the house down.
Yeah, that's what concerns me.

Someone mentioned it before. Anything that gets leaked right now is smoke and mirrors at the #9 spot. Whether they like or don't like DSJ or Monk is pure speculation.

Currently with the assets we have and the ability to trade future picks, I see no reason why we wouldn't go ALL IN on a franchise #1. I will keep beating that dead horse until I am blue in the face. We need to be aggressive.

Do you mean getting someone through a trade or draft?

Problem is that there really is no clear franchise number #1 player at 9 in this draft. Frank and Isaac have the most upside, but they wouldn't be ready to "take over" in a few years anyway.

In fact, that's what people need to realize. All of the lottery picks are 19 years old. Even the college guys might be a few years away. There is a lot of talent, but that doesn't mean you're getting a star next season.

Aggressive as in using assets to move up in the draft if necessary to get "our guy". This is the deepest draft in a decade. I believe we are looking at 4+ All nba 1st teamers here. Yes its a risk in any draft. This is THE draft to bet on. And you are right... none of these kids are the answer for next year or the next. This is about finding our next cornerstone. Not about finding a Barnes, Parsons, etc.

And what assets do we have to move up in the draft? What would your plan be to do that?

Yeah, the #9 pick alone isn't much, and future firsts aren't guaranteed to yield a decent return if we get Fultz... We don't have Noel under contract to package, Wes is a negative asset in this scenario, Seth/Yogi/Devin/Barea don't add enough value, and including Barnes in the deal would be overpaying on our end.

Not many options to move up more than maybe a couple spots, which doesn't really do anything for us since the few teams ahead of us are probably gunning for the same players that we are.

Couple spots is more than enough for a DSJ or Monk imo.

That's the thing though, anyone a couple spots ahead of us probably wants those guys too... The ONLY possibility I can see is if Minny is dead-set on Markkanen, then maybe they take a future pick from us so we can leapfrog NYK. But that's about it.

Even if you could do that, what you'd be giving up probably wouldn't be worth it at that point. Would you give up Curry and a future protected 1st for Monk who is very similar to Curry? I might do it for DSJ, but the chances of a team wanting to give him up to us are slim to 0.

Like you said, there are potential all NBA first teamers here. Draft picks are arguably the most valuable commodity outside of having a superstar under contract.

Not sure why it wouldn't be truth.

Finding said replacement....THERE'S the rub. Wanting is easy, finding is hard.

Yogi Ferrell named to All-Rookie Second Team
Not bad for a 10 day.

Quote:
Every other player on the All-Rookie Second Team was drafted in the lottery. Ferrell is the only player on either team to have gone undrafted.

I think the point is that an undrafted rookie on a 10-day contract got only 4 less votes than the #2 overall pick.

Could be too.

My point is that the amount of Ingrams votes are garbage too. His season sucked ass.

NBA season starts 10 days earlier this year

Thank goodness. Once the summer league ends tomorrow, it's going to be a long time until camp.

Maybe the ugly hair will distract us during those 1-13 games, and 0-10 from 3.

Too bad they missed their window to dump Wes. Maybe could've gotten a protected 1st during the season when he was shooting and playing well. Then he hit the Carlisle wall

Really hoping Smith Jr lets Wes go back to spotting up for open 3's. Its been hard for him to create his own and easy to defend him when we lack other offense.

The Matthews hate here is disturbing.

People cried for a 3/D guy. He's it.

Dude gets 90% of the flack for our crappy season, but it was just a bum roster and Rick made him do things he wasn't capable of.

Yup I like Wes. He seems like an ultimate teammate and person, on and off the court. He struggled because he had to do more than his usual. Expends most of his energy on the defensive side and then spots up for threes and goes for boards. The negative view of him will ease this season. His first season here, he was coming off of the Achilles injury, so he wasn't going to be 100% just yet. Then we know what happened last season. I think the FO and their comments when he was constantly mentioned in trades, that spoke volumes.

I think Wes is actually getting a pass IMO. Because we are a non contending team. If we were a contending team the reality would still be he is a 3 and d player who is making 18m a year, we signed him to a max contract(70m) the same year Danny Green got almost literally half the amount at 40m, and Green was not coming off a significant injury. Demarre Carroll got 52m that year, Ariza got 32m the year before. He's paid like a top 40-50 guy and in reality is not close to that talent wise and if picking a side, he's on the downside not the upside of his career. And When Wes signed he stated he was not just a 3 and d guy, he said he wanted to prove he was worth the max and it was even called the worst contract of the off season and posted to his twitter iirc. I believe he even made comments about making those people eat their words. I fully believe Wes would do better with better players around him, I don't think anyone has said otherwise really. That doesn't change the fact he's overpaid. And when the first thing people say positively about him is "locker room presence" then that's probably not a good sign for a guy making 36m over the next 2 years. I like Wes, I wanted him here more than Green or any other available 3 and d guy. But even if he shot 38% from 3 and scored 15 a game with good defense he'd be overpaid. He's getting a pass tho imo because we are not close to being a true contender, so the money means nothing right now.
