He said "the reasons are out there" for why he went AWOL, but does anyone actually know what the reasons are?

His whole demeanor leaves so much to be desired and just says that he can't be a leader or a team player in this league as of right now. That doesn't mean he can't grow, but I'd be very intrigued what would happen if the Knicks indeed get Durant and Kyrie in the summer. "His" team my ass. Will he be "ill" again and then shit all over the Knicks after getting traded?

He’s two years removed from being in high school. He’s still a young man learning.

Berman from the NYP flew out to Dallas to annoy KP if he demanded the trade blabla but of course he didnt ask the same question to DSJ
The reasons are probably that he got butthurt that the Mavs had trade talks about him.

He's a young man learning through FAILING... Dude needs to quit running his mouth, it's not doing anything positive for his image/brand.

And i have to give here huge respect to the FO...and to Rick. How they played it when he went awol...not calling him out, biting their tongue (specially Rick) because his trade value was pretty much trashed and then they turned it around into KP

DSJ with 30 tonight so far in 3 quarters. And 13 ft's. So since he's in NYK he's going to get ft calls now?

Drummond and reggie Jackson are some of the most braindead player in the league, so probably they fouled a lot...

Yeah right? Refs hate Cuban. Smith didn't get half the calls he should have here, but I'm glad he is playing well for the Knicks.

Just saw, Reggie Jackson (season 40 FG%) was 8-14 with zero FT for 20 points, 6 assist, 1 TO.
Guess DSJ stopped caring about defense like in college

Honestly, with as much shit as Dennis has talked since I posted that I don’t think he’s learning a damn thing... He’s just failing.

Knicks (lost 17 in a row) getting trashed by the Sixers. Knox dunks on Simmons and DSJ has nothing better to do than to run to Simmons (still laying) to taunt him
Every day im more glad he is gone

How Dennis Smith Gets to the Next Level
Fizdale to Smith: "You need to get in a lot better condition."
Smith: "I can be in a lot better shape for sure."
Basically he's acknowledging that he never worked hard enough in Dallas.
Should make Mavs fans appreciate the trade more every day.

I don't really care what he does...don't dislike DSJ..he's just a mediocre draft pick that helped land KP.. I guess I'm thankful that he did what he did..otherwise the Mavs wouldn't be in this position. So no hard feelings at all.

Def call BS on that one. Look at the videos of him training this past summer. He was doing some hard core push up drills that would make Rocky proud.
Making shit up just to feel better about the trade is pointless and silly. Smith might be out of shape do to time off the team, but he certainly hasn't remotely looked out of shape for the season.

But really..where would the Mavs be if he hadn't opened his mouth to begin with? They'd probably be looking at a #7-#10 pick in a not so deep draft (a pick that they'd convey to Atlanta) with free agents probably not having nearly as much interest. So thank you DSJ...

So his current (new) coach's assessment of his level of conditioning is BS?
Is Smith lying when he agrees?
Conditioning should be the easiest thing for a young 19, 20, 21-year old player to maintain. What's obvious is that he was coasting on raw athletic ability, and not doing enough to improve his conditioning or his skills.
Because if he wasn't working on his conditioning, you can bet that he wasn't working on the long ball either.
Starting to hope that the Nix get Kyrie (or Walker) so Smith can dribble off to Charlotte or wherever.

His image/brand will be fine because hes tight with J. Cole. So hell always have that insulation, but man that article posted is really disheartening. He wanna be like that, then its whatever. Glad we got KP out of that mess.

I agree
His shooting percentages are down - 3 point percentage is WAY down. Heck even his free throw percentage is hovering about 50%

He also got benched in the 4th the other day against Minnesota in favor of Mudiay because he kept turning the ball over. Also didn’t he score a bucket on his own team?

But in all seriousness, let him have all the dunks in the MSG. It was an unfortunate situation for him in his second year. Stuff happens... I hope he thrives in New York.

Yeah, this trade was probably finalized and they put that out to stop their fans from going absolutely apeshit... which so far doesn't seem to be helping.

@247Sports: NC State has been charged with four NCAA violations, some of which are related to the recruitment of former NBA lottery pick Dennis Smith Jr. Two of the penalties are Level I violations, the most serious of NCAA violations: https://247sports.com/college/north-...-Jr-133568889/

No, i do it just with the idiots.
First the NCAA stuff, then Rick told that he thinks that someone in his inner circle told DSJ to stay away from the team. Yeah it sounds like his dad wants the biggest money grabs possible. Him and Luka were friends but probably it was his dad in his ear that he wont get that huge payday after his rookie deal if he plays offguard in Lukas shadow and that he should force a trade.

I gotta say that I have more respect for Dennis Smith, Jr. after the recently published article. I like how he still keeps in touch with his old teammates and has no hard feelings at all about the trade. I think that this shows that given the right circumstances he wouldn't mind wearing a Mavs uniform again. Not at all. Right now is not the right time imho, but maybe sometime in the future we'll entertain the idea. Even if we don't, I feel like he's handling everything the best way that he can.
