Post 2007 Cowboys Schedule

Primetime Cowboys
2007 Schedule Has Seven National TV Appearances

IRVING, Texas - Here is what stands out about the Dallas Cowboys' 2007 regular-season schedule on first blush.

The Cowboys will play a club-high seven nationally-televised games, starting with the season-opening Sunday night game (NBC) Sept. 9 against the New York Giants at Texas Stadium.

They will open the season playing two of the first three games on the road, following that season opener at Texas Stadium with road games at Miami and then at defending NFC champion Chicago in another Sunday night game televised nationally by NBC.

And the Cowboys will finish the season playing three of the final four games on the road, the direct opposite of what was thought to be a scheduling advantage in 2006 when they played three of the final four games at home - losing all three.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones must be ecstatic over the team's national exposure, having been scheduled for six nationally-televised games in 2006, and then a seventh under the league's flex scheduling when their Dec. 10 home game against the New Orleans Saints was moved to NBC's Sunday night game.

There will be seven this year, and not solely because the Cowboys are coming off a 9-7 season which landed them in an NFC wild-card playoff game. The Cowboys participated in the highest-rated regular-season games last year on CBS, NBC, ESPN and Fox.

"The national television games only add to the anticipation that we have for the upcoming season," said Jones after the NFL released the 2007 schedule at noon Wednesday. "We've never had this many national games before. It is an honor to be considered for that type of exposure, and it reinforces our desire to get the job done on the field."

The Cowboys will play three Sunday night games on NBC (Sept. 9 against the Giants, Sept. 23 at Chicago and Nov. 4 at Philadelphia); two on NFL Network (Nov. 29 against Green Bay and Dec. 22 at Carolina); and one each on CBS (Nov. 22 against the New York Jets on Thanksgiving Day) and ESPN (Oct. 8 at Buffalo).

Since the Cowboys are playing so many road games to start the season, they obviously will have a bunch of home games sandwiched in between. They will play back-to-back home games on Oct . 14 against New England and Oct. 21 against Minnesota followed by an Oct. 28 bye.

Then after consecutive road games at Philadelphia and the Giants, they play three consecutive home games, starting with Washington on Nov. 18 (Sunday before Thanksgiving), the Jets on Thanksgiving and then the NFL Network Thursday night game Nov. 29 against Green Bay, eliminating the team's annual 10 days between playing at home on Thanksgiving and their next game.

Damn. On paper there's atleast 14 winnable games on that schedule. Cowboys got a very easy one this year. But you say that now and a team like the Panthers or Miami end up a surprise team and are 5 games above .500.

Looks like a tough schedule to me. Why the hell are we getting so much national exposure? Undeserved imo. 6 prime time games? I miss the times when I would just wake up, click on the television and watch the game.
