I obviously havent been around this site much this season. Ill give Dan props for obviously being right about Young. Hes had a hell of a season and I was absolutely wrong about him.

If Mike Napoli was going to play 150 games instead of 115-120, hed be the AL mvp.

Its so nice to be able to give players like Napoli so much time off. I mean almost no one on the roster has played 130 games or more.
Young has 147
Kinsler has 143
and Andrus has 139

thats it! now injuries may be part to blame sure, but injuries can be convenient. It looks like they have saved themselves for late in the season, and the last few games its starting to show. I'm so pumped for these last Angels series. Man!

If the angels hadnt done the wells for napoli trade, they likely would have signed Beltre. That would have likely led to a different winner of this division.

I don't even want to think of how that might have looked. Sheesh!

3 headed pitching beast + Beltre + Napoli - Wells - Mathis = Helluva good team!

With Nellie about to return to the lineup, we are about to be fully healthy for the first time in forever. What would our ideal stretch run lineup look like?

Something like this?

Kinsler, 2B
Andrus, SS
Hamilton, CF
Young, DH
Beltre, 3B
Cruz, RF
Napoli, C
Murphy, LF
Moreland, 1B

?

That is a pretty disgusting lineup. The #6-9 is just filthy. Obviously, Wash could order the bottom a little differently. And Beltre could move back into the cleanup role. But I don't think you can have your best hitter all the way down at the #5 spot. And Young is our best hitter.

Regardless, that's about what the ideal ALDS Game 1 lineup would be. And that is pretty damn good.

I consider the player with the best batting average to be the best hitter.

Haha. The thing is im so happy with young that i would have let it go if napoli hadnt been SOOO good. MVP level offense and good catcher defense is an odd combination

If Napoli had put up these numbers at the same rate with 600 PA's by the end of the season, he would be right up there for league MVP without a doubt.

The rangers have an insane record when their regular lineup is on the field.. something like 78-1

Poop. Missed opportunity. Oh well, that's another game taken away that the Angels could make up their deficit in. 3 games up with 11 to play.

Magic number = 7. It's fun to count backwards.

The Angels are failing so hard down the stretch. Gotta love it. I guess they don't want us to celebrate on their field, so they are making sure we have the West clinched before the last series of the season. lol

So we can clinch tomorrow, but not with a win, since we play a couple hours before the Angels. I hope both the Rangers and Angels win tomorrow so that we can clinch with a win on Saturday. Gonna get tickets for that game to go along with the ones I already have for Sunday.

It's amazing that the Wild Card situation is where it is, considering it's not like any of the three times are actually playing well. Tampa Bay and LAA caught up to Boston by playing mediocre and let Boston totally collapse. Boston 3-7 last ten, Tampa Bay 4-6, LAA 5-5.

This sets up nicely for Josh Lewin to call the division-winning game on Saturday on FOX, so long as the Angels mimic what we do tomorrow.

You had to figure that trip to Tor was going to be tough. 2-2 in July doesn't look like falling down, it looks like doing a good job getting a split on the road.

Give it up, LAA! Well, I guess they are still fighting for the wild card. Go ahead and get your win tonight. That way, the good lord willing and the creeks don't rise, we can celebrate in style with the last out tomorrow night!

A's escape a bases loaded jam in the 8th. Going to the 9th, A's lead 2-1. Three outs away.

Though my memories of the '90s clubs aren't as sharp as they used to be, this sure feels like the best team the Rangers have ever had.

Washington said he'd rest his starters the rest of the season. Yet michael young is still in the lineup. I wonder if that's because he makes 17 mil a year?

No... it's because the Rangers don't have enough infielders and Young volunteered to play 3rd.

Infielders on the roster:

Moreland
Kinsler
Andrus
Young
Beltre
German
Blanco

Blanco, German, Beltre, and Young can all play third... so either Beltre or Young was going to have to play because only Blanco can play short and therefore only German can play second.

As I recall the '96 team, they're probably pretty comparable but at least this team isn't pumping each other full of steroids.

Great Regular Season!!! Nice to defend the AL Championship with an opportunity to dance again.

Looking forward to the Post-Season and for the Ranger Pitching to prove itself!!!

The 96 lineup was awesome. Every player in the lineup had something going for them.
The worst OBP for any of the starters was .317. That was Kevin Elster. Well, he was a SS and managed 99 RBI's and 24 HR's.
The next lowest OBP was .342 for Pudge which was much more than acceptable especially from the catchers position.
The team OBP was .358. Team OPS was .827

The 1996 pitching is in no way comparable to 2011...

The OPS+ of that club was 103, and the ERA+ was 113. They were actually better pitching than hitting, once the era/park was accounted for (i.e., steroids). Pudge's .300/.342/.473 was only league average. Ken Hill's 1996 (16-10, 3.63 ERA in 250.1 IP, 145 ERA+, 6.5 WAR) is criminally underappreciated.

The 2011 Rangers have an OPS+ of 108 and an ERA+ of 117.

EDIT: Speaking of Ken Hill, I vividly remember being at this game: http://www.baseball-reference.com/bo...99607170.shtml . I was eight years old at the time, but I remember Hill being lifted by Oates with two outs in the ninth and not being very happy about it (because my dad wasn't very happy about it).

That is a pretty disgusting 1-4 the Rangers had going on. BAs of .304, .316, .330, and .334. Rusty Greer is still my favorite all-time Ranger with Pudge a close 2nd.
