Huh, apparently WCS is a painter, and judging by what's shown here, a pretty good one too.

J Rich is practicing and with team but probably still a few days or a week away from coming back. He hasn’t practiced in two weeks and will take some time to get back in the rhythm. That’s tough for a guy who is also just trying to learn to be a Mav. He will not play tomorrow according to Brad, but may play one of the Utah games or maybe right after. Maybe 1-5 games until he returns.

DFS and Powell are probably going to get cleared to practice this week and can maybe start playing early Feb. Both are asymptomatic and just need some negative tests and then some time to work their way back. We're talking maybe 4-10 games until they can play.

Sounds like Kleber got absolutely clobbered by Covid. Everyone I’m hearing is saying that he may be even longer. Apparently he’s still got symptoms and is still sick in bed. That really sucks as he’s our 2nd best defender, one of our best rebounders, and our best three-point shooter. I'd be thrilled if he came back by mid-Feb. Poor guy is really sick.

This isn’t going to be a short absence. All these guys haven’t played in almost three weeks and Some will take 3-5 more weeks to get back in live games.

What a joke of a season. But OlyMpIcS! Seriously, was it really worth nearly (and maybe will happen anyway) destroying your product/league because of the Olympics?

Totally agree. The Olympics are the most overrated thing ever. I literally never much a second of it. It’s one giant Bob Costas puff piece.

I think they also wanted the XMas $. And to start next season on time? Idk, whatever the factors it’s a mess.

And it's all because they are in the same boat together of TV contracts which fans/people are becoming more and more aware of in a pretty negative way. But is it worth destroying one thing for the other?

Cracks me up to no end how many Mavs fans on social media want Andre Drummond.

He. Will. Not. Work. With. KP. The last two free angecies should have already put something like this to rest. Mavs had no interest in putting someone like Vucevic next to KP.

Aaron Gordon should be the target IMO.

I think it's because one person starts the trumpet for someone like Drummond and then others latch on. They really don't know how that wouldn't work in Dallas and are just going off what others are saying. Yes, the guy puts up good numbers, but people don't think about how those players fit into a team.

@townbrad

Carlisle says 3 of the 4 protocol players, Powell, Finney-Smith and Richardson are making progress. Still a chance of getting one or 2 back this week.

Everyone but Kleber have recovered and were in attendance tonight. Looks like they will have about a week until they can play and then we’ll have almost a full roster. Could be Feb 1 which means 3 more games?

Also Kleber is sick as a dog. Still getting his butt kicked. Prayers for him.

@townbrad

Dorian Finney-Smith, Dwight Powell and Josh Richardson are listed as questionable for tomorrow's game at Utah.

Whoa. We might have everyone but Kleber back either next game or the second Utah game.

Kleber is probably Feb 7-14

Now Powell, dfs, and Richardson are all expected to return tomorrow, with dfs and Jrich listed as probable starters.

I’m sure the Covid 3 will play limited minutes for conditioning reasons, but will be nice to have a few defenders to throw at Mitchell.

Rebounding is a lost art for this team. Guys do not anticipate, move to position themselves, nor block out. Luka is hurt, beat up. Hardaway is such a streaky shooter, really like the guy, but someone has to step up on a nightly basis and help Luka. What's wrong now with Porzingis? Time to look at massive trade with Washington near trade deadline for Beal?

Beal is the dream for all of us, but I just don't see it how it happens. A: The Wizards don't want to lose him, so it only happens if he demands a trade, which he seems very reluctant to do. B: If he does demand a trade, there will be teams lining up around the block who have more to offer than the Mavs.

Yeah there is no conceivable way. Even if we include KP. Even if he wants to be here, and I DO think the Washington organization will deal with him in good faith as great as he’s been about the situation, signing the extension, etc. other good teams can beat our offer and offer similar championship contention.

Yeah we don’t have anything anyone wants. No first rounders. Our guys are looking bad. Not a lot of amazing contracts.

I don’t anticipate a move but it will be interesting to see if any small moves happen. It will also be good to have that deadline over with so people stop talking about trades.

EL - I think the Feb. 6 date is when the majority of free agents signed this past offseason become eligible to be traded,
marking the unofficial countdown to the NBA trade deadline (set this year for March 25).
-Per the 'Key Dates' announced by the league, the 2020-21 trade deadline is Thursday, March 25.
Barring any date changes, that would be a couple of weeks after the 'scheduled' second half of the 2020-21 season begins on March 11

Potential Assists*
from*Matej Sportinfo@Sportinfosi
Luka is leading the league in potential assists and a lot of those have been wide open looks. He's averaging 18.5 potential ast and 9.4 ast per game. Harden is 2nd with 18.3 potential ast (11.1 ast per game), Jokic has almost the same number of ast as Luka, with 4 pot. ast less.

I'm into this stat. It should be used more.

Furthermore, I still think there should be .5 assists for every made free throw when players are fouled on a shot if it is from a pass.

We've finally had enough games to get DRPM (defensive real plus/minus)

Kleber - 15th in the league (3rd at his position)
DFS - 18th in the league (5th at his position)
WCS - 35th in the league (13th at his position)
Powell - 188th in the league (41st at his position)
KP - 201st in the league (38th at his position)
Richardson - 202nd in the league (47th at his position)
Boban - 209th in the league (43rd at his position)
Iwundu - 225th in the league (44th at his position)
Green - 245th in the league (62nd at his position)
Brunson - 272nd in the league (35th at his position)
Johnson - 310th in the league (58th at his position)
THJ - 329th in the league (64th at his position)
Burke - 332nd in the league (50th at his position)
Luka - 347th in the league (54th at his position)

Looks really skewed against guys like Luka who played during our skid. I will say though, that Kleber and DFS may be the most instrumental guys we have as far as defense. We play defense, they go out and we can't play defense. They come back and we're good again.

I don't know what all the flack is about DFS

I've always liked him.

He's not a sexy offensive players but he's a solid 3 & D wing.

The Mavs run into problems with DFS when they try to play at the PF spot.

I personally think WCS, Kleber, DFS, Richardson and Luka would be an elite defensive group as starters. But they would lack offensive firepower.

I'd like to see that unit used a little more together again just to sustain leads.

Except there's not much "3." He's a career 33% shooter. Below average. He had was good last year, but that was the outlier so far.

The Mavericks have sent rookie point guard Tyrell Terry to join the Memphis Hustle of the NBA G League ahead of the NBAGL’s Orlando “bubble” season, according to a team tweet. The Mavs’ G League affiliate, the Texas Longhorns, will not be participating in the 18-team 2021 NBAGL season. Dallas drafted Terry with the No. 31 pick in the 2020 NBA draft out of Stanford.

It'll be good to see them get at least a little burn.

Nets will play their first game of the season tomorrow against the Iowa Wolves (Bey/Hinton)

Hustle will also play their first game tomorrow against SA (Terry)

Plus it puts our roster at 15 if there is another Covid tracing shutdown

The Dallas Mavericks have ceased playing the national anthem before home games this season and do not plan to play it moving forward.
@tim_cato
tells you about the team's decision, which Mark Cuban confirmed to The Athletic.
