I think prime Parsons is a better pure shooter, but that can of course change since Luka is so young. Luka is a much better playmaker. Parsons was also a pretty good man defender, and I'm still curious to see how Luka's defense is in today's NBA. I will say that Parsons wasn't very athletic and still effective which gives great hope that Luka's own lack of athleticism won't be an issue.
Luka's talent is a big mix of players though which is what makes him unique.

Chandler Parsons was a very good athlete when he was still with the Rockets.

Early in his career (before injuries/added weight) Parsons was more athletic than Luka is right now tbh. Though I do think he's far from a finished product and has a lot of room for improvement in that regard with proper NBA training.
Also agree that Luka's role will be similar to what they envisioned Parsons being but obviously he's much much more talented

Contract Issues May Hold Luka Doncic Out Of Summer League
https://www.forbes.com/sites/doylera.../#539099d54f7a
Quote:
“He has not participated in a live practice yet because he needs to have his buyout completed with Real Madrid,” Carlisle told reporters. “He needs a FIBA letter of clearance, he needs a physical and he needs to sign his contract. So, we’re getting close to getting those things done, but we’re not there yet.”

Long suspected, now confirmed...
@espn_macmahon: Mavs had Luka Doncic as the No. 1 player on their draft board. "It wasn't even close," Mark Cuban told ESPN.

I know Karalla had him one and JJJ as number two. Wonder if the FO felt the same way about JJJ.

We’ll probably never know, since JJJ was gone at #4... All I know is that they didn’t love Mo Bamba enough to stay put at #5.

Funnily enough, Doncic has already achieved ALMOST enough (at age 19) to be inducted into the Naismith hall of fame as an international entry. An Olympic medal should make him a lock for the HOF.

It’s going to happen! Especially if his brother starts to develop. If his brother is enjoying his time in Dallas with Luka (and hopefully Dennis), Giannis would be a perfect fit. The Mavs will be able to offer him a max contract if he hits free agency.

Looks like we don't need Kostas to sell the Mavs to his brother, we already have another guy on it...

If Luka wins ROY or comes close but had an exciting year he’s going to be able to lure players like Giannis. There will also likely be other high level Euro players that will come to come play for the Mavs just to play with Luka.
A couple people here thought I was on crack when I said a dream lineup of these guy is highly unlikely but financially possible.
AD
Giannis
Barnes
Luka
Dennis
If the Mavs are able to get lucky enough to land Giannis it will be much easier convince a guy like Davis to come to the Mavs. Obviously this is a highly unlikely scenario I’m just saying it will be financially possible in 2021, both will be UFA’s, and the Mavs could have the best young backcourt in the NBA.

@All_Things_Mavs: The Mavs and Real Madrid have come to terms on a buyout for Luka Doncic. His rookie deal with Dallas should be done soon, according to @IAmDPick.
EDIT: @tim_cato: Luka Doncic's Real Madrid buyout still hasn't been finalized, I've been told, so don't expect to see him playing in summer league today or tomorrow.

@espn_macmahon: Mavs coach Rick Carlisle is flying to Slovenia today for a get-to-know-you visit with Luka Doncic.
@tim_cato: Doncic is likewise flying out today, so that should end for certain any speculation that he would play in Las Vegas.

Classy move by Rick. Between he and DSj, we may have the potential to be successful AND keep our culture that Dirk built. Nothing better than winning the right way.

smart move by the Mavs... I know we're all anxious to watch him play, but let the kid get some rest and get used to rigorous NBA training and diet before throwing him to the wolves.

With the #3 pick (!) in the NBA draft, the Mavs get Luka Doncic
Nothing to see here

Good. If Doncic had a bad, meaningless summer league game, then we'd have to hear people bitch about it for months. He needs rest anyway based on how much basketball he plays.
